It is a decent system that has aged remarkably well. The Pre24 is really nifty: not only is it a CD player, but it can take both digital input and line-in from any source, whether it is a PC, iPod, or some wireless streaming system. It upsources the digital signals to 24-bit/96kHz and keeps the analog-signals pristine. I will never part with the Sennheiser 600, and have no intention of upgrading to the 650. The Grados get me these weird looks at the office, but they sound great. The Etymotics are due for an absurdly expensive cable replacement some time soon.
Ferrar1, those Westone UM1 (http://www.westone.com/music/universal.html#um1)s look interesting. Are the canal tips made of silicone? Do the cables transmit vibrations into your ear? Do the cables degrade over time?

*Looks over at his 80's Pioneer amp :3
well, at least it was free XD
I'll post my stuff soon. Just waiting for something to arrive and it'll be complete :D

Chera: Holy shit, look at your setup!!! I wish i own an amp. *looks at hornet series... lol
The ER-4P good? i didnt have enough cash for that range of IEMs the other time, but i was looking at its small brother 6i. The UM1 though has been serving me well. Has a clear sound, good mids and balanced highs, very good for simple music listening. The bass aint that strong but i'm not a techno or rock freak so it evens out for me.
The cable build i must say is solid. Been using it for almost a yr and no problems with it so far. Microphonics isnt alot as well. About the tip, i'm not too sure what material its made up of. Will read my manual.
-
The ER-4P good?
The ER-4P is very good. The silicone earbuds block out a lot of external noise and that contributes a lot to making music seem very intimate. That's why I'm interested in whether the UM1 has foam (earplug) earbuds or silicone rubber earbuds. The ER-4Ps have 2 problems: 1) You can't really throw them in your bag. It would be gross to get the tips dirty and then stick them in your ear canals. So a pouch is supplied. The cable wraps around the pouch. 2) Where the cable rubs against the corner of the pouch for years at a time, the cable rubs away exposing the cable core. Doesn't degrade sound quality, but I've had to cover the cable up with scotch tape. Looks butt ugly. I'm interested in getting a cheaper version: something that I can throw into my bag or pocket, blocks out a lot of subway or airplane noise, and sounds good. Sony's ER-series almost but don't quite fit the bill. That's why I'm looking at the UM1.

Headphones: Sennheiser HDR 135 it's not high end but it's wireless and it works allright
PC Speakers : Dynaudio Audience 10, it's abit bigger than the 50 series, more rare also :)
Home Theather: 7.1 local made speakers, alot cheaper (10% of the price) and sounds better than the bigger brand names I auditioned
-
DAPs: iPod 5G 60GB, iPod nano 2G 8GB, iPod shuffle 2G 1GB, iPod mini 1G 4GB
Other music capable devices: Treo 650, PSP
Headphones: Grado SR60, Sony MDR-EX71, Creative Bluetooth headphones (they suck), and various freebies and cheapies.
Future: ER-4P, a portable headphone amp, whatever new iPod comes out, whatever Cowon's replacement for the A2 is

That's why I'm interested in whether the UM1 has foam (earplug) earbuds or silicone rubber earbuds.
They give soft comply tips (foam) in their package, its very comfortable and provide decent isolation but does not last long (1 mth) as it is disposable. What i did was to get a shure tri-fangle ear piece and use it on the UM1. The store owner then advised me to modify it to bi-fangle to achieve better comfort and isolation. This ear piece lasted me 1 yr and costs S$8 for a pair which i find it worthwhile.
Ill put up pictures this evening of my stuff to show a better picture, but UM1 cables are definetely long lasting. It is braided by the way. Anyway i always keep it in the accompanying case so i wont know what will happen if i chuck it in my bag daily. One more alternative would be to look at superfi 3. It has superior cable build (about .5cm thickness cable) But because its thick, its not that comfortable to wear it because the cable wont bend naturally around your ears.
I use an iPod video (everything standard)

no worries bro, i started off this way as well but upgraded to better earphones to shut off outside noises. :)
SONY ER71
ive used it before, has good bass but imo weak vocals. And as i tend to listen to acoustic music, and simple R&B i traded it off.

Another hardcore listener :)
I'm thinking of getting amps for my speakers and earphones as well, but definetely not for on the run because it would be too bulky for the pockets. Creative actually has releases a new product that acts like an amp and claims to make the sound better, but ill let people try it off 1st.
-
Future: ER-4P, a portable headphone amp
I've found that the ER-4P is so sensitive it sounds great without an amp. If you're planning on using an amp, the ER-4S supposedly gives even better quality, but has greater resistance and therefore would benefit from the extra output. I used to use a 5 year old bottom-of-the-line Headroom amp. It was very inconvenient for portable use.

Apparently, there is a P-to-S convertor cable for the ER-4P. So i'll probably start will the P and then get that cable once I get an amp.
*EDIT*
I'm thinking about picking up a Zune, just to see how the other side lives. xD
Kinda digging the brown one.
-
^ Wish they released the Zune in Europe a bit earlier... might need to go import (or stay with my ASUS UMPC for video :))
-
New stuff from Creative.I'm really not too confident it can do what it claims because it sounds kinda far fetched, but i might just try 1 since its quite affordable. S$139 RP
Creative Xmod
* Restore the details and vibrance that your music lost during MP3 compression
* Enjoy all your music and movies in surround sound on any stereo speaker system or headphones
* Connect in seconds to your notebook, PC or Mac to create an Xtreme Fidelity sound system
(http://sg.store.creative.com/images/products/attribute/15913_1.jpg)
-
^^
Sound Blaster X-Fi claim all the above and I'm dissapointed with all those features, 24bit crystalyzer is just an equalizer set to boost volume level, bass and high pitch response. 3D Surround only works with headphone, even then true surround is much better. If I had known I would've gotten a sound card with digital coax instead.
-
Creative Xmod
* Restore the details and vibrance that your music lost during MP3 compression
This part is impossible, you can't restore 'details' that where compressed away, you can 'simulate' but lost is lost. But if the user was is stupid enough to use badly/to highly compressed MP3's he/she will fall for this also. BTW there was a (HDX?) dynamic range compression on casette tapes at some point in time, but that required special recording from the start.
* Enjoy all your music and movies in surround sound on any stereo speaker system or headphones
Surround via stereo, yes that is possible. Its a question of applying different delays to sounds, but the source needs to be surround already otherwise you get 'synthetic surround'
-
Yeah i thought it was far fetched but an external sound card for a laptop would cost a bomb. And since mine are mostly 320mp3 & Apple lossless, i was hoping it would help to refine the sound further and not to restore details.
-
Yeah i thought it was far fetched but an external sound card for a laptop would cost a bomb.
The theory is that an internal sound card works in a "noisy" environment, full of massive amounts of electrical interference. Not exactly the best place to be doing sensitive stuff like DAC. So even a cheap external unit has a theoretical advantage over an external unit.
There are external DACs that cost a bomb. Most of them are aimed at either audiophiles or professionals. Headroom has a range of combo DAC/headphone amplifier that cost anywhere from $800 to $2,000. The top of the line got a very good review from Stereophile (http://stereophile.com/headphones/406head/). Pro units usually do both DAC and ADC, and are designed for people who need to do mobile recording and mixing.
I personally think the better deal would come from buying a good CD player that had digital inputs (ideally coax or Toslink, but USB might also be acceptable). That way you can plug your computer directly into your hifi and take advantage of it for DAC, amplification, and speakers. Of course, this assumes that your computer has digital audio outputs, which most laptops don't.
And since mine are mostly 320mp3 & Apple lossless, i was hoping it would help to refine the sound further and not to restore details.
You might benefit from a decent external DAC, but don't spring for ones with fancy features like those from Creative or Soundblaster. Those are designed for people who listen to crappy 128kbps files or RM streams - stuff that's so crappy to begin with that even some simple EQ adjustments might make them sound better. I'd personally start from a simple no-frills external unit (you should be able to find them for about $20). Then step gradually up. Don't expect miracles though, since the quality of what gets to your ears is limited by the quality of your weakest component.
Update: The Benchmark DAC-1 (http://www.benchmarkmedia.com/dac1/) has had some rave reviews, and Stereophile (http://www.stereophile.com/digitalprocessors/886/)has used it as a benchmark for some years. It costs about $1,000, which is pretty reasonable considering that Stereophile claims it very handily competes with the Mark Levinson 30.6 (http://www.stereophile.com/digitalsourcereviews/159/) - an absurd piece of audio engineering that costs $17,000. This review also identifies some cheaper <$1,000 choices.

^ Nonetheless, we are having an IT show near to the end of this month. I'll be bringing my earphones to check out any difference it will make. At the same time search for early presents for christmas.
And i updated my 1st post if you want to see the build of UM1.

Have fun and please post your reviews. I've found IT fairs frustrating because of the high noise level. Makes it hard to concentrate on audio quality. Make sure you bring a "reference" CD or WAV file on a thumbdrive - having to rely on the recordings/files the exhibitors have on hand is a pain.
The UM1 looks very nice. I also use silicone flanges. They're much easier to put on than foam earplugs. And that pouch looks much better than the cheapo thing that came with the Etymotics.

Yea i'll probably bring my UM1 and Tsunku's CD and go in the morning to avoid the crazy crowd. I hope MS zune will be there for me to demo it as well.

I think you will have fun with either UM1 or Etymotics ER6i because for starter IEMs, these 2 are among the few that performs well. But ER6i has a very weak looking cord that looks like cables of cheap earphones which made me choose the UM1 instead.

DAP : Ipod Video
Headphones : SONY MDR-Q66
(http://www.hanbitworld.co.kr/MJ/q66.jpg)
I don't mind these. They have good sound, retractable rope type cables, and are comfy. (I commute for 4hrs twice a week (mostly standing  ) and don't even notice I'm wearing them)
At home : SONY DAV-S550
(http://img.savenjoy.co.kr/itemimage/oa/75(4).jpg)
Even though this is hooked to the pc via fiber optics, I barely turn it on, and just listen to music through the monitor speakers, which actually kick ass.
The in-built monitor speakers are from TIME DOMAIN (http://www.timedomain.co.jp/index_e.html).

Those speakers look awesome, especially the Light model. Were they very expensive? Japanese hi-fi can be absurdly priced sometimes.

The Light model is 18,900yen (the Japanese page shows the price)
I'm a bit unsure of what "Time Domain" is. I original thought it was a brand, but now I think it's a "type" of speaker. I still don't know, and I'm too lazy to read tonight.
You can have a read HERE (http://www.eclipse-td.com/e12_technology/technology1.html), and checkout the TD712z model.. Nice!!

And if you're really game, look at them on the Japanese page to see the price.
note: That price is for 1....Ouch!

I got a SonyEricsson W800i Walkmanphone for playing my H!P Stuff.:)
I has a 1gig Memorystick that makes me able to listen to around 300 different H!P Songs wherever i am.
Never tried how long i can listen until the battery dies, but I tried how long I can watch Movies, at that is 4 hours:D
(No, I don't sat 4 hours in front of the phone and stared on that little screen...:P )
Great phone, never used one longer than this, can't wait for next year, then I want a new one, the Nokia N95:ONluvluv2:

300,000Y for a single speaker is high, but really absurd for a single-driver stand-mounted speaker. They look like 3,000Y desktop speakers. Or maybe it's japanese "cost-no-object-by-size-constrained" speaker engineering for people with big wallets but small apartments? That is, people who don't have the space for this: (http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/1000/1341newgrandgz5.th.jpg) (http://img177.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1341newgrandgz5.jpg)

Do not confuse size with quality!(http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/1000/1341newgrandgz5.th.jpg) (http://img177.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1341newgrandgz5.jpg)
I have once listened to a set of those (then around 10.000 euro's for the speakers, around 5000 euro's for the amp and some change for the sound input provider) not to bad sounding :).
Biggest problem with electrostats is the low frequencies, better have a woofer somewhere also.
Even bigger problem: unless you want to invite the neighbors, do not turn the volume up! :D
-
Do not confuse size with quality!
lol, the same could be said about quality with price, don't you think?
I'm thinking that's the point Chera was trying to make here. I'm sure the speakers sound great and all but just looking at them. The price to me would only indicate they're something you'd buy if you're rich and stupid. Then again I've never heard them so I can't say much. Has anyone here heard them?
Anyway's back on topic I gotta post my crap.
I just got these the other day:
Ultimate Ears: SuperFi 5 Pro
(http://www.eyeballcancer.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/uepro5.jpg)
There not bad but I'm still trying to get used to sticking them in my ears :s
Portable setup looks a bit like this:
Creative Zen Vision:M, "MINT" amp (meta42 in a tin)
Yup that's an amp, runs off 2x 9volt batteries. Although I don't really need to use it with the UE 5pro I really got it for my headphones because they need a bit more umf than the average player can throw at them.
Those headphones would be these:
Ultrasone Proline 550
(http://www.eyeballcancer.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/ultrasone550.jpg)
Only sexy bass comes from these. Only smooth sexy bass ^o^
So anyway moving on now. My main source at home is CharmyPC!!
Inside that is SB Audigy 2 ZS, although I do have an emu0404 but it sucks for games and it's just not practical to have it in there atm. I'll use it in like an HTPC or something one day.
(http://www.eyeballcancer.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/charmypc.jpg) (http://www.eyeballcancer.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_emu0404.jpg)
PC goes to my 80's hand-me-down amp which works fine. I don't mind it at all. I run my headphones off it and they sound nice. I've decided not to go down the track or buying a big expensive setup mainly cause the amount of money you could spend on a good amp and speakers nowadays is enough to put down a deposit on a house!
(I just pasted the same pic twice cause there's 2 of them)
So that's about it.

Around school and stuffs.

-
umm i just use a basic psp for video...and my phone
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v67/xxbakaboi808xx/img.jpg)
for sometimes video and musical needs...its not bad...both have 2 gigs in it so yea...may seem small to most of you...but it gets the job done seeing as i usually have my laptop or some other form of entertainment around me...

Awesome, please post a review when you've broken them in!
"MINT" amp (meta42 in a tin)
I've wanted one of these for a long time, but balked at the difficulty of building one myself. Did it take you a long time?
My main source at home is CharmyPC!!
I'm sure that results in a sweet high-end along with a nice plump sexy bottom-end :P
I've decided not to go down the track or buying a big expensive setup mainly cause the amount of money you could spend on a good amp and speakers nowadays is enough to put down a deposit on a house!
I agree with the philosophy. Better bang for buck to invest in good headphones and maybe a headphone amp than to invest in all the other stuff.
-

Good stuff there, i auditioned this before as well and found the sound quality nice. As i mentioned before, superfi cable build is excellent but a little too stiff for me. And if i still remember correctly, try to run the earphones for quite some time (eg 50 hrs?) before you put them on, the sound will differ greatly compared to when you just take it off the package.
Unfortunately no $$ to spend more than S$200 during that time.
I have a cheap 3-piece speaker set for listening at home, but they're good enough.
Wow i havent seen this before, vodafone... Isit a phone or a standalone DAT?

I have a Microsoft Zune player. ;D (It's not even in stores yet if I'm correct!) Won it in a raffle some Zune Promoters were doing during a demo at my college.
It's actually pretty good despite the fact it's made by microsoft, IMO. ^_^
Pictures to come soon. ^_-

I always wonder why people always have to buy
new Headphones for there iPod.
I have a 4G iPod and like the supplied Headphones,
maybe because they are, unlike any other Headphones
just white.
Greetings

^ I bought new earphones because i need better isolation when listening to my music. The one supplied doesnt really block out noises, making me crank up the volume most of the time and that either spoils my ears or annoy the people around me :D
Just picked up a Zune today.
Please do comment on it after you finish playing with it. :D

Sorry I missed your post.
I haven't been using my Zune too much lately.
But for anyone on this board thinking about getting one... here is the #1 reason not to...

NO UNICODE! Hopefully they fix soon.

^ But the screen looks great. I'm sure unicode problem is easy to solve thru software update, just hold on to it mate. :D

The Zune screen is decent but there is one thing that is annoying. The player comes with a free 14 day trial subscription to the Zune marketplace, which I've been using to check out some tracks. But the album art for all the tracks on in marketplace is 200x200 or less. Since the Zune display is 240 pixels across, the album art gets blow up and looks like crap. So you've got this nice display, but the interplotated album art makes it look not so nice.
======
I want this now:
iriver S10 review (http://www.pocketables.net/2006/11/review_iriver_s.html)
Hopefully it comes out in the US soon. I don't really want to import but I may have to. xD

Hah that's pretty idiotic. I saw a lot of people buying Zune last weekend, though it wasn't on sale or anything like that.

hate to bump up an old thread, but i don't wanna make another thread for it either. my mp3 supposedly has broken down, its no longer letting me transfer music onto it. so im currently looking for a new player. price is a middle ground issue, as long as its worth the money its fine. im currently looking at either a 2/4 gig ipod nano, or the 2 gig NWS705F (http://tinyurl.com/2fs7fl) .of course im also opened to suggestions.

I don't own this yet but it is something I am looking to buy hopefully in the not so distant future. It's the Meizu M6 Miniplayer.
http://en.meizu.com/product_m6.asp
It comes in a 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB version but an 8GB version was supposed to have been released a couple of weeks ago although it seems to have been delayed. I think it's looking to be April now.
In the UK the 4GB version is going for around £140 whereas at the moment you can get it in china for about £40 and I think it's going for about $130 in the US so I'll probably get one imported when/if I do get one because the cost in the UK is ridiculous. I actually want to get the 8GB version so I'm waiting until that is available anyway.
Some youtube reviews/demonstrations of it.

old white 20gb iPod. Still black and white (no photo or video), and I think it got an error now... Some artists or songs or albums with the same name got repeated on the list. Don't know why >_<;

8GB Meizu M6 Miniplayer and it's the special edition black/black version. It's kind of hard to take decent pics of it because A) I don't actually have a decent camera and B) it reflects a lot.

A 30GB iPod and one of these (http://www.audio-technica.co.jp/products/hp/ath-cm4.html). I'd prefer cans, but eh, no monies~

i heard ya about the no-$ part..but i still think for $50 USD equivalent, you could still get decent pair of 'cans' if you want...granted, it won't be top end Sonys, Sennheiser, etc., but it'd still kick those little ear bud's ass a long way!
and about the Ipod, i think it sounded just like a cd-player should, no different to my ears. May it's the phones/speakers that you ran the pod thru...
-
im thinking about getting one of those meizu miniplayers too, or a a sandisk sansa e200 series player.
probably going to wait a bit longer though, since the sansa connect (i think that's what it was called) is coming out soon :D

HP Pocket PC Phone 6965 with 2 gig mini SD Card with Stereo Bluetooth Headphone (with FM Radio). Sounds ok . Stereo Bluetooth Headphone can wireless remote control for Window Media Player. Encode to WMA at 160 kbit and the stereo sound is good.
Music will pause when phonecall comes in. After hangup phone, music continue. Life is good.

Not exactly on topic, but I didn't feel like making a new thread; What portable music players have support for flac playback natively?

The Meizu I have as posted above plays FLAC.

The Meizu is sleek

i got a couple of questions on a sony walkman mp3 player, Sony NW-E003 Walkman MP3 Player (http://image.compusa.com/prodimages/25/c0ddce9f-4430-42a2-86b3-749a2281d4f5.gif). i heard that this and other sony mp3 player requires a software called sonic Stage in order to manage (download or upload) your mp3 files. is this correct? u can't just hook it up to any comp with a usb port and manage with and media player? i wanna know before i make a purchase online. it's for my sis.
btw. rite now i'm using a SanDisk Sansa m230 512mb mp3 player (http://i.walmart.com/i/p/00/61/96/59/02/0061965902464_500X500.jpg) great player. easy to use. no software or anything. just plug it in a usb port and u can transfer files so easily using WMP or just the windows explorer. loved it. only thing i don't like it the capacity. with only 512mb (actually it listed 498mb but only 478 could be use). normally it would hold 150 songs at around 128kbps. but i lower the quality down to 64kbps or 48kbps, which still sound good, u wouldn't want to go any lower cuz it'll suck. with that my player hold about 300 songs now.
but still isn't enough so i plan on buying a 1 or 2GB player. maybe a SanDisk Sansa c250 2GB Photo MP3 Player (http://i.walmart.com/i/p/00/61/96/59/02/0061965902997_215X215.jpg). heard anything about this one. cuz i would love to buy it. someday. soon actually, just when i get enough money.
-
^ Yep, with most Sony players, you'll have to have SonicStage installed. (It comes with the player). I own a Sony minidisc player, and had to install Sonicstage to transfer songs onto it.
Thing I didn't like about it, is that everytime I went to transfer songs onto it, it had to be converted into an ATRAC3 file. >_> (It's sony's special music file thingy ma jig).
Well anywho, here's a quick shot of my OLD MD player and my current iPod video  My white zune is around here somewhere.. I'll take a pic of it soon. lol.
XD Yay for GAM playing
-
^ Not all SONY players require you to encode into ATRAC3 (has good quality at low bitrates) I have a harddisk player that also accepts MP3's.
But I use Sonic Stage to transcode so I can store more songs.

$599 for iPhone (8gb model)
+ $59.99/mo under 2yr AT&T contract = $1439

You could have tried these instead, the Mylarone XB (extra bass) or the Mylarone X3. They cost only SGD$57 (USD37+-) and based on the reviews of peers and local community, they are the current best bang for the buck. But i've seen them live before and i can say that the build is not that good compared to other in ear monitors.

This sexy iriver X20. Based on reviews, it looks like both X20 and the M6SE is getting similar good reviews but the X20 wins on using easily replaceable lithium-ion batteries.

sony walkman technology is the greatest innovation and money wise for poor people like me.. thanx SONY.. SONY ROX..

iPOD Classic 160gb. Man, that itunes sucks!
-
160GB !!! I'll never know what to filll that up with
I'm thinking of getting an Ipod Touch this christmas if there's any good promotion or discount.
-
^ I would probably have one if it didn't force you to have to use iTunes.
-
What's wrong with iTunes? except that
- It is super resource hogging
- You have to rebuild your playlists if your computer crash if not it'll erase your iPod songs
- You can only update 1 iPod on 1 system
- It needs updating every few weeks, and updating file is super huge
:P
Seriously, i think i can live with iTunes unless some other manufacturers come up with a touch screen MPEG player as well. O0

My review
"This IMO is the best and most complete multimedia player in terms of function, look and price(i got it 2nd hand). Although the music playback capability is similar to the previous iPod generations (albeit with extra support for lossless), the video playback is where it leaves me breathless. It is capable of playing back VGA quality videos and it is matched by the giant and beautiful screen the touch has.
Not only are the standard music and video player function in there, the touch is capable to surf the internet using the super gorgeous Safari browser. On top of that, when the touch is jailbroken(in simple terms, hacked) you are able to install 3rd party applications such as Apollo - Instant messaging client -, NES - Super Nintendo emulator - and many more unknown and undeveloped programs.
And i still have not gone into praising its touch screen responsiveness. Similar to the iPhone or the Sony Ericsson P1i, all 3 devices have superb touch screen and it is a breeze using it. For everyone who is thinking of whether to get the touch, i will say skip it if you insist on players that support flac audio. If not this is My no.1 must have for electronic device this year."
-
Hm, I thought is was less reflective, but anyway enjoy!
I'm still not parting with my Creative Zen/HP because they have WMA audio (not going to re-rip 350 CD's to AAC!)
Edit: I think you should not chew on the iPhone ear-bud cord judging by this:

You can look for the reviews online and. I've tested it locally and it does sounds great BUT bass is lacking and unreal. It is definetely good though for listening to acoustic, pop, r&b and etc that requires little bass. The build is great although when you wear it, it will be sticking out slightly from your ears.

Question: is there a site online that has reviews and/or recommendations of noise-cancelling headphones? My mom was fascinated with the Bose headphones at the Apple store and was about to plunk down $350+ for a pair. But there HAS to be something out there that's just as good for half the price. Right?
Any suggetions would be appreciated. Thanks!
-
^ I had one of those (the Quite comform II), they sound really good although they are not as good as in-ear types. Mine broke ofter 2 years of intense daily use.
Depending on your ears, over-the-ear might be more confortable for long periods, otherwise if you can get your hands on SONY NC10's they in my view are still the best (NC10! not NC11! those are rubbish) for on-the road because they have a switch where you can listen to somebody talking without taking them out.
Most in-ear headphones will give you a lot of 'noise canceling' already, some have special ear pieces (some can be fitted to your ear) then cancel 25 or even upto 30db(a?) e.g. like 95% of the noise.
Otherwise, good headphones (Sennheiser, Bose, Shure etc) start at more then $50+, quality takes it prices.
Here you might find some reviews:

Question: is there a site online that has reviews and/or recommendations of noise-cancelling headphones? My mom was fascinated with the Bose headphones at the Apple store and was about to plunk down $350+ for a pair. But there HAS to be something out there that's just as good for half the price. Right?
Any suggetions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Headphones? or earphones?
For headphones you could try those by Allesandro and Grado. These 2 IMO makes the best headphones out in the market at fantastic prices. This is a good place to read up and there are some reviews out there.
I'm not familiar with headphones so i can't help but for earphones, i can help as i have owned at least 10 pair tilll now, from the Sonys to the exoticas.

^ Very new earphones in the market :)

Normally I don't use anything particularly special. If I'm playing music on my computer, I use the built-in speakers most of the time, and whatever headphones/earbuds I happen to have on rarer occasions. About the only thing I use for portable music, and not that much, is my PDA. I have to plug headphones/earbuds into that, and again I use whatever I have. Right now, it's a Sony brand of earbuds that wind up into the case.

After my Zen decided to crap out I bought Sony NWZ-A816. 4GB flash memory and very good stock earbuds (Sony MDR-EX082).

Currently, I'm using a Cowon D2 + RSA Hornet + 75Ohm Impedance adaptor + Koss KSC-75 / Sleek Audio SA6 / Sensaphonics 2X-S demo unit ... Other than the D2, KSC-75, SA6 ... The rest are being loaned from various friends for personal review ...

Why would you need the 750ohm impedance adaptor when all your earphones are low impedance?
Does it help to improve any sound?

Finally I bought an ipod classic 80gb. I'm a bit annoyed that I have to use Itunes now (well not all the time but still), however I'll have to say I love it a lot ^_^ I've put most of my music and PVs in and still have oodles of space left.
for earphones I'm still using the standard one. might change to sennheiser earphones after the stock one wears out.

Actually it does ...
To me the D2 is kind of clinical, a little too bland ...
And I've read that the D2 actually drive cans with slightly higher impedance better, I remember is a thread somewhere in Head-Fi ... So I tried it and it made the overall sound of the X3, KSC-75 slightly better ...
It made the sound comming from the 75s punchier, tightens up the bass by a nice bit, but i can't really discern the difference between the others ... I'm intending to up the level of my cans, my recent investment in the LiveWires had left a fairly sizable hole in my pocket ... but, I'm aiming for the ES3 ...

I'm surprised thought that the hornet could handle up to 750ohm. I've never tried mine on anything that high. Anyway IEM doesn't benefit much from amps as much as headphones do.
