i absolutely loved Frank Miller's "300" series about the Battle of Thermopylae and here's the trailer for the movie adaptation he's been working on...http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/300/trailer1/ (http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/300/trailer1/)
look's badass, one of the few flicks i'm lookin forward too! YAY!
-
A film adaptation of 300! I'd never heard of it before, but it piqued my interest because it touched on something i'm reading on, the Battle of Thermopylae. It's about the King Leonidas, and how him and his men repelled the Persian forces of Xerxes on the mountain pass of Thermopylae. Trailers shamelessly jacked from megatokyo forums.

Holy crap. Just saw the trailer, and... holy crap.
I LOVED the original graphic novel, which was known for having only two-page spreads. The trailer seems to be extra-widescreen, and the visual style is spot-on with the book.
SOOOOOO AWESOME!!!!
-
merged zaius + Maliciel's threads :P
Frank Miller is the guy who did Sin City?? Hmmm...
-
The movie looks badass. Definitely looking forward to this one.
I spent an hour or so reading the wiki about the Battle of Thermopylae the other night.
-
Saw the trailer and it so wickedly shot...them arrows just raining on em, very dark yet shiny. Everyone seems to be like covered in cooking oil XD

Hell ya I can't wait for this. Frank Miller is a comic legend. This film, just like his Sin City, will be almost shot-for-shot adaptation as the graphic novel.
-
The movie looks freakin awesome! I don't know if I'm ready to call it the best film of the year, but I'm sure it's going to be badass

Looks good, but besides the visual style there isn't anything spectacular in the trailer...
I got kinda a Matrix in Ancient Greece -feeling.

IGN Advance Review - Zack Snyder creates a masterpiece with this fantastic adaptation of the Frank Miller graphic novel - 5/5 (http://uk.movies.ign.com/articles/763/763580p1.html)
Hell yes. I've been waiting for this movie for some time now, it looks freaking sweet. I wasn't really going to mind what critics say anyway, but it's always nice to hear good reviews.

300 is a historical epic film directed by Zack Snyder, scheduled to be released in 2007. Based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller, 300 is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae in which King Leonidas and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Facing insurmountable odds, their valor and sacrifice inspire all of Greece to unite against their Persian enemy, drawing a line in the sand for democracy. The film brings Miller's acclaimed graphic novel to life by combining live action with virtual backgrounds that capture his distinct vision of this ancient historic tale.

An R-rated trailer has been released. Blood, sex, more blood, lesbian kissing, and decapitations galore!! Best trailer ever! :D (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5306)
-
Going to see it with my brother in a few at the local IMAX. 300 + 80ft screen = win.
-
saw it at midnight for free. Very good effects and the fights are damn realistic. its not like one person just standing there getting stabbed like 300000000 movies we've seen. its just realistic and what u expected from a sword fighting medieval battles. King Leonidas or what his face looks like he has his panties tight up in a knot shoved into his rectum most of the time after he leaves Sparta aka mediocre acting all round. the violence deserves it's R rating. SLOW MOTION GORE FOR THE WIN!!
going to watch it again on the bigger screen, IMAX!!!!
-
saw it at midnight for free....
Dude, no spoilers!!! I don't want to know who wins the battle at the end...
...
...
...
...
...
huuu... forget it... :embarrassed:
-
i didnt post any spoilers lol. and its pretty damn obvious who won at the end XD

i got flack on a different forum for that. i joked about how they all die at the end... and that theres no part 2 coming out :P i guess some people jus don't know history. afterall its a movie adaptation of a comic book (sorry, graphic novel) thats based on history... the battle of Thermolylae during 480 BC.
awesome movie, saw the midnight showing last night! frikken mean goryness! and got some nice sexual content going on as well (not to mention some weird freakiness as well)
as for the acting, well theres not awhole lot of lines in the movie. when they do speak its kool and moving they way its edited. but def a very awesome use of slow motion... yes, maybe a lil matrixque looking.
one thing is for sure, after you're done watching the movie your adrenaline is pumping! brings out the testosterone.

I too did see this at the midnight showing here In hawaii. I went to the Dole Cannary one. Man was this movie goOd! :ONwriggly:
I liked everybit of this movie also. That is all I have to say since most of the Positive feedback for the flick is already given :ONbingo:
-
Saw it at the local IMAX theater (80 foot tall screen) and it was amazing. Some of the fighting I've ever seen in a movie. :pimp:
-
it's a bloody, chest-pounding, high intensity masterpiece that lives up Frank Miller's work. i loved the GN and i now love the movie. not really sure what else to say besides...if you are a male, you MUST see this movie. definitely gonna check it out again this weekend, thumbs up!
-
the choreography is awesome. the first battle rocked when the spartans are just mowing down the persians. great movie
-
I just saw it on IMAX. Freakin awesome. Very manly. I still question the goat creature.
-
It's sold out for the two imax theaters in my area for the entire weekend... I might try to see it next weekend :/
-
SPOILERS (sort of) WARNING - REVIEW!
Ok, so I watched it the second time in two days but only this time at a huge imax screen. I noticed so many flaws second time around. Nonetheless, it's still a pretty decent movie but the movie sucked because it was so overhyped. The battles were awesome. But some editing in the movie sucked. and the pace is all over the place. Slow at most cases. the homefront queen thing was unnecesary and it slows down the movie very much. The golemn look alike is also stupid. Xerses looks like a queer.
Best part of the movie? - THE QUEEN'S BOOB JIGGLING IN SLOW MO! AND THE ORACLE'S HARD NIPPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD
-
Xerxes*
I'm gonna go see it next week. I doubt it'll disappoint~
-
Highly commendable movie. One of the best surprise movie of the year.
-
Just saw it at IMAX, and as a fan of Frank Miller's original work, I must say that I wasn't disappointed. The movie's faithfulness to the original is commendable. Even if you didn't like it, you have to admit there could have been LOTS of things, if done differently, that would've made it horribly bad. I shudder to imagine what a director like Uwe Boll would have done with this movie. As it is, the tone of the entire movie is spot-on with Miller's original.
One of my friends, also a big fan of Frank Miller, told me that he was smiling to himself so hard throughout the movie that his face hurt. While mine doesn't, I did find myself grinning for most of the movie.
-
I saw it last night, and I absolutely ADORED every minute of it. It was thin on plot, but plot twists aren't the reason to see this movie; it's the look and the amazing fight scenes that are amazing. And how AWESOME was Gerard Butler's (Leonidas) beard? I WANT IT! Anyway, I'm probably going to see it again at some point in the near future.
-
More spoilers:
- "Sorry, Mr. Hunchback Guy. We Spartans fight in a phalanx, so you can't help us." "Here come the Persians!" "Okay, everyone spread out and start attacking whoever you want."
- "The Persians have millions and millions of soldiers, so we're going to funnel them into the canyon, where their numbers will count for nothing." "Here come the Persians!" "Okay, let's go out and engage them in that open area in front of the canyon."
- Where were all the rest of the Spartans? They should have either hired more extras or changed the title to 30.
- What was up with the fat guy with blades for arms?
- Even in a movie filled with big beefy shiny muscly men wearing little more than leather speedos, that "We're in for a wild night." line stood out as being pretty gay.
-
I have to watch this movie. It looks really good.
I went yesterday but all the damn tickets were sold-out.
-
Xerxes is kind. That is all you have to know. :D
-
ahh, i didnt get to watch i yet, but people told me the story line sucked, but the fighting snd the scenes were good.
-
I always think it's kind of funny in a sad way when people say a historically-based storyline "sucks".
-
saw 300 on Imax on opening day. pretty spectacular, though there were some parts that were like "wtf?"
still, most manly movie... EVAR
-
#1 movie this weekend at $70 mil! that's pretty damn high for a rated R movie
-
Wanna watch! But I still have to wait.
I saw the 1962's version (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_300_Spartans) the other day. I guess it'll be kind of different, though.XD
-
I always think it's kind of funny in a sad way when people say a historically-based storyline "sucks".
umm, this movie has been stated time to time that it's not historically accurate. Persians are not all ninjas. And there's no doom 3 fat guy rip off nor a gollum rip off back then :D
-
I'll be the first to admit that realism is NOT the point of this movie. But that doesn't negate the fact that the general idea of Spartans going to Thermopylae to fight the Persians is what happened in history. I wasn't talking about anything except the "story line", as Reinafan put it.
-
eve so, the "storyline" in the movie is thing and very slow paced. But then again, I guess this movie is only intended to wow ppl with their special effects and the battle scenes and not with a good plot. the battle of thermopylae is only part of the story in the movie as we saw it. if it isnt, we wont be seeing the stupid homefront crap with queen gorgo and the traitor.
-
If the movie's anything like the graphic novel, the 'storyline' isn't a very big part of it. Sequel gogo!
-
Same as you guys, i'll only give 2.5/5 for storyline but the action was awesome. Infinity times better than matrix who used the same slow-mo type of shootings.
And the fighting style rawks. FOR SPARTANS!!
-
If the movie's anything like the graphic novel, the 'storyline' isn't a very big part of it. Sequel gogo!
it is almst frame per frame from the graphic novel. I guess thats why the acting and storyline kinda sucked then XD
-
I'm so glad I have a friend that used to work at a movie theater. He's got his connections, so whenever I go to that theater, we get in for free. So I'll probably be seeing it again later in the week. I can't wait. Loved this movie.
-
Delicacies of dismemberment aside, 300 is notable for its outrageous sexual confusion. Here stands the Spartan king Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and his 299 buddies in nothing but leather man-panties and oiled torsos, clutching a variety of phalluses they seek to thrust in the bodies of their foes by trapping them in a small, rectum-like mountain passage called the "gates of hell(o!)" Yonder rises the Persian menace, led by the slinky, mascara'd Xerxes. When he's not flaring his nostrils at Leonidas and demanding he kneel down before his, uh, majesty, this flamboyantly pierced crypto-transsexual lounges on chinchilla throw pillows amidst a rump-shaking orgy of disfigured lesbians."
:tfr9a7wg:
-
i didnt post any spoilers lol. and its pretty damn obvious who won at the end XD
I've been there for 2 years and you still don't know that none of my posts are to be taken seriously ???
-

Gorgo was in about two panels in the novel.
Also, hated the superhueg rhino deal. And the dude with knives for hands. Wtf is this, Lord of the Rings? And the slow motion was cool in some parts, but really exhausted its appeal in the middle of the film.
-
^yea, thats why I stated that the whole story about the homefront crap is really out of the whole point and boring. And getting ass raped.
The dude with knives really reminded me of Doom 3 for some reason.
I've been there for 2 years and you still don't know that none of my posts are to be taken seriously ???
LOL no :D
-
I'll say I'll definitely get it on DVD!
-
saw the movie the other day and i was instantly blown away! the action's soo good that it made the nude scenes look pretty normal (not that i didnt like it haha) but seriously there's something bout slo mo and pure gore in 300 that makes you wna go and watch it over and over again... Spartans rock!
-
OMG this movie rocked! it was awsome!! great 2 hours I'd watched.. hehehe
all that blood and gore, flying limbs, that joke with the other allie about having a real 300 fighting soldiers, and other is just village people..
-
spoilers
- if you're a traitor, don't carry around persian gold coins in your purse. just in case you get stabbed and "spill the beans"
- when someone gives good advice, listen to what he/she says instead of who's saying it. even if he/she looks like gollum. at least investigate it. and there's nothing wrong with using the gollum if he offers his services. spartans are so superficial..
love the movie. don't think too much when you're watching it though.
-
- if you're a traitor, don't carry around persian gold coins in your purse. just in case you get stabbed and "spill the beans"
Once you've gotten stabbed, does it really matter?

Why? The reasoning was clear and concise, albeit like what Foxy said earlier, didn't really hold true in the movie itself. Also, he did take Ephialtes' advice.
-
I just recently read through the comic book, and that armored war rhino, big fat blades-for-arms executioner, and the whole subplot with the queen weren't in it. This suggests to me that someone read a Frank Miller comic book and said to himself "You know, this would make a pretty good movie if it were just a little more retarded and over the top."
And that thought makes me smile.
-
Saw it tonight. Was as badass as I expected it to be. Although the guy with knifes for hands did get a 'WTF' moment from everyone watching. And the subplot with the Queen was pointless.
-
Loved it. And this will look fucking amazing once it's out on HD on my 110" projector screen. I can't wait.
-
This movie was good fun but highly overrated. Definitely didn't deserve all the success it got and sometimes all that hard rock music just made it look really stupid.
-
Fun fun fun!!!
-

Maybe she was just a filler to arouse the audience in the beginning, if it was then I'm happy ;D
-
i loved the movie and too shall get the dvd!
-
i just watched it... wow... storyline aside... the colours used and the battle scenes sure was good... a change from the un-manly men that are walking around these days.. :P
-
well, i'd just say that the society today does have a fairly strong dose of estrogen and thus effect everybody, guys included =p ; i don't think it's entirely the men's choice/fault to be 'un-manly' (if manly means the traditional beast-like 'macho-isms')
That said, i still think that hero movies like this one kick all of our balls everyone once in awhile; which could be healthy too ;D, since as human beings, we have and need both of those sides (And for getting/impressing/pleasing the ladies: we guys got to have them both too; the primal macho-gorilla & the perfect gent...wouldn't you ladies all say so ;)
-
I thought the movie was okay... I liked the battle scenes, but the sex and the rock music wasn't that necessary for the movie.
-
oooohhh....I can't wait to see this movie :o
It sounds good so far
-
oooohhh....I can't wait to see this movie :o

It is. Just watched it a few nights ago on the big screen. Top film. ;D
-
Story? Nearly none. But thats with these battlescenes no matter!
Great film. Bit too much talking about honor and strength.
Funny, the king of sparta was such a strong and tall guy, but when Xerxes stood behind him :dizzy:
Who the hell is the actor? Must be a basketballer or something.
-
I ended up seeing this a few weeks ago but never got around to posting about it XD
Honestly, I thought it was way overrated. I kept hearing all these great things about it, but I just didn't like it as much as everybody else. But oh, it was completely worth seeing anyway.
GERARD BUTLER :luvluv1: He was hot in Dracula 2000 and Phantom of the Opera, but he was...I don't think I even have a word to describe how fantastic he looked.
I was hoping he would break into song at some point in the movie :p
-
personally i couldn't stand the visual effect or whatever it had (seemed like the brightness was too high or the contrast or something) and i wasn't aware that the spartan army wore speedo's...which wouldn't have been so bad except they always had to focus on their abs - me and my friend (we actually walked out of the movie) were joking afterwards that the only reason they showed breasts was to make up for an entire movie of half-naked men :wahaha:
-
Funny, the king of sparta was such a strong and tall guy, but when Xerxes stood behind him :dizzy:
Who the hell is the actor? Must be a basketballer or something.
Rodrigo Santoro...He's not really that tall, it's just movie magic (they modulated his voice to make it deeper, too) ;)
-
I don't think anyone can be 10ft tall! XD
-
2m72 is getting close (8' 11.1"):
http://www.maniacworld.com/worlds_tallest_man.htm
-
just downloaded it from somewhere on the net.. 1st time i saw this movie... worgh.. awesome man.. really shock with the fighting style.. cool.. even lotr lose to this, man.. love the piercing effect.. blood spilling around.. and the scene where head drop down.. yaits.. great.. seem like so real.. love it..
-
Hmmm... I think the allegations of this being "gay porn" is a bit overstated. Wasn't the film direction mirroring the graphic novel frame by frame just like in Sin City? If anything, any sexual message contained in this movie constantly revolved around the beautiful being ravished by the beasts i.e. the oracle by the temple dudes, Leonida's wife by Theron, and of course the little hunchback having a great time in Xerxes' tent! >:D
-
MANY OF YOU ARE IGNORING HISTORICAL FACTS!!!!!!
1) GLADIATORS WERE NOT WHITE SKINNED, BLOND HAIR, BLUE EYES
2) THEY HAD TAN TO DARK SKIN, WOOLEY HAIR,
3) WHY DO YOU PEOPLE BELIEVE EVERY DAMN MOVE YOU SEE?
BECAUSE OF THIS, I HATED 300
-
^ Thank you for shouting, you found the Caps-Lock key I see.

saw the movie and thought it was pretty good

wow man you got carried away... we got you dude don't capitalized all your text next time.. AHU AHU
