Teen pregnancy on the rise?

Teen ‘pregnancy pact’ has 17 girls expecting

This was a story from last month- but it still appalls me. In a nutshell- the 3 girls wanted to be preggers because it was 'just cool'.

I think it comes down to the lack of moral standards many display now days in not only this, but their conduct in society in general.

It use to be that many had sex, a few were complete whores and then 1 or 2 may have gotten pregnant and most often those 2 were social outcasts.

Now it everyone with very few exceptions are engaged in sex, many are whores but they don't consider themselves that, and quite a few get pregnant and it is no longer just the social outcast but part of the "in" crowd as well.

Why? I blame crappy parents. Plus I blame the spoiled attitude that many display, as if they are entitled to soemthing just because they are alive.

Not everyone of course, but enough of them to make it an issue that has to be dealt with.

As a personal note; I hate it when people blame things like celebs, music, video games, etc for kids behavior. Why should everything be kid friendly? Its up to the parents to control their kids.

^ Yeah, I pretty much agree with all of what you said. It's the parents. Kids can only be negatively influenced by society if parents don't set the better example for them to follow in the first place. And parents are too concerned with being liked and not with doing what is right for their children, so they don't discipline them. I'm not saying children should be beat into submission, but parents these days just give their kids whatever they want if it will keep them temporarily appeased, so kids grow up learning that if they whine and complain and manipulate, they'll get and are entitled to everything they want.

It boils down to the parents responsiblility of course. Not that they want to believe it. Instead the media comes up with some fashionable hysteria to pin the blame on. It's happened with novels, TV, movies, music & games to name a few. That way lazy parents can have some 'reassurance' that it's not their fault, as all this filth is everywhere and corrupting our kids, when really, they have the power to prevent their children from having access to it at all.

But that teen preggers pact is pretty bonkers. To me it's like they're treating a kid as the latest fad. I hope it's not one they grow out of. I'm not one to judge, maybe they do really want kids, but I bet it won't be quite how they imagined. They need well paid jobs for a start. Doesn't help when one of the fathers in a 24 yr old homeless man. What I find the sad thing about all this is:

Quote
He said the mothers-to-be are generally "girls who lack self-esteem and have a lack of love in their life."

So bringing children into a world with no steady mother-father relationship is all good for them I suppose.

I'll go beyond that and say that the kids need to take personal responsibility. It's the most important thing to learn growing up.
