Infinite Bits | Miami's First Video Game Convention - October 23 - 25, 2009

This is a grass roots project by one of my best friends, so HiPstaz - esp. Floridians - NEED YOUR SUPPORT PLEASE! :w00t:

Infinite Bits is South Florida's first major video game convention October 23-25, 2009 run by Sexy Beam + dj Kaos

Infinite Bits is South Florida's first major video game convention. It's goal is to bring together gamers of all kinds for a weekend of guests, panels, videos, music, shopping, events, and most importantly... gaming. Yes, we'll have lots of gaming, representing all eras and genres of video game history. We'll have an interactive museum, where you can play games from the 70s to today, themed rooms for even more action, and rare gaming hardware. Of course we'll also have plenty of tournaments - Halo 3, Gears of War 2, Rock Band, retro tournaments, and more. Our exhibit hall will include vendors who specialize in all types of gaming merchandise, companies from within the industry, local gaming clubs and organizations, and gaming websites. We'll also be featuring live music Friday and Saturday nights.

Infinite Bits is just what Miami's gaming scene has been waiting for!

Check out this, go check it out if you're in da hood!!

General Rules:

  • The tournament is limited to the first 32 players who register.
  • 3 Stock
  • 8 minute timer
  • Items are set to "off" and "none"
  • If the timer runs out, the victor is determined first by stock and then by percentage.
  • Metaknight's Infinite Cape glitch is banned.
  • If a game ends with Bowser doing his suicide klaw and it ends in sudden death, the sudden death will be ignored and that game will count as a win for Bowser.
  • You are responsible for your own controller and name tag. Any malfunctions or errors that occur are your responsibility, so bring an extra controller if possible and always check to make sure you're using the correct settings BEFORE a match is played. If a match is to be restarted due to controller functions, it must be agreed upon by both parties.
  • Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering one of these effects.
  • Stalling is banned.

PRIZES TO BE WON!! GO HERE: http://www.infinitebitsconvention.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=441

Quote from: djKaos
Starting today, every link to http://www.infinitebitsconvention.com you add to the Internet gets you one step closer to free tickets to Infinite Bits 2009, and a chance at a new Xbox 360, PS3, or HDTV!

All registered forum members are eligible. All you need to do is get a link back to the Infinite Bits website. Every time you get a link posted to the site, post a screenshot where the link resides into this thread. Whoever has the most links by October 1st, 2009 wins their choice of prize.

Rules:
1. You may use any method to get links, so long as they are not considered spam. Recommended ways to get links include: submitting Infinite Bits press releases or news stories to gaming sites or blogs, creating a thread or posting in a thread on a forum in which you are an active member, submitting a listing for Infinite Bits to convention or event listing sites, tweeting about Infinite Bits, making a post on Facebook or Myspace. If you post in a forum you are not an active member in and are flamed for it, your link will not count. Likewise, if you submit a link on a site and it is removed for inappropriate content, the link will not count.

1a. We take spam VERY seriously. If we find you are using automated tools, or using any other questionable methods to obtain links, the Infinite Bits staff reserves the right to disqualify any participant.

1b. If a site requests a reciprocal link, please post the request in this thread, contact an administrator, or send an e-mail to staff@infinitebitsconvention.com. We are more than happy to add their link to our friends and sponsors page.

1c. You do not have to link to the front page. You can link to blog articles, videos, podcasts, or any pages with convention information.

2. In order to receive credit for the link, you MUST post a screenshot with the link and the URL where it resides in this thread. We also ask that you keep a running total of your links, as this thread may become many pages long.

2a. Forum signatures count as one link. However, two sigs on two different forums count as two links and two domains.

3. All links will count towards your total, but in order to be eligible for the grand prize, you must have links on at least 30 unique sites, and a minimum of 50 total links.

Prizes:
Anyone who completes the minimum requirements (30 unique domains, 50 total links) for the grand prize automatically receives one free weekend pass to Infinite Bits 2009.

If you have the most links overall, you have a choice of one of the following prizes:

1. Xbox 360 Pro 60 GB with one new game of your choice
2. Playstation 3 80 GB
3. 27-32" LCD HDTV (exact model and size subject to pricing and availability at end of contest)

Example:

Good luck!!  :thumbsup

THE TIME IS NEAR!!!!

If you live in the Florida Area!! GO CHECK IT OUT!!!!

Quote from: Infinite Bits newsletter
Loyal Bitizens,

Welcome to the next issue of our super-special infotastic mailing list! For those of you just getting up to speed, let me tell you about the recent BIG developments for Infinite Bits.

The time is upon us. In one week's time, the skies above Miami will part, and from them the gods of gaming will descend and bless us with their presence.

Or, y'know, it'll probably rain and the gods will come in the shuttle from the airport.

REGARDLESS of how they arrive, know that one will no longer be among us. Todd Rogers has needed to cancel due to family medical issues. We wish him and his family the best. But we're not ones to ever let the convention lose any momentum, and as such, we're proud to announce four new industry guests!

Miguel Oubina

Miguel is responsible for all aspects of educating IGDA South FL members and students character creation for the IGDA Unreal Engine 3 Worldwide Level Design Contest using 3D Studio max in a classroom setting. Miguel graduated with a BA from Florida Atlantic Univeristy’s Computer Arts Program. While working towards his degree he also worked for Navteq’s Mapper division. While at Mapper he was responsible for creating 3D buildings & textures for use with Navteq’s realtime 3D GPS systems. From college he went on to found Nuclei, Inc. which has worked with several clients, including HGTV. He also teaches game design at Miami Dade College.

Derek Smart

Derek first appeared in the gaming industry in 1992 when Computer Games & Strategy Plus (now Computer Games Mag) previewed his first game, Battlecruiser 3000AD (a.k.a BC3K), which he started developing in the late 1980’s in Europe. BC3K went on to become the de-facto standard for niche space games. Over the years, he has been a prominent industry player & regarded as one of the quintessential indie developers. Derek & his games have been featured in many print & online publications, including Computer Gaming World which wrote an in-depth profile in issue #201 (April 2001). His solely owned company, 3000AD, Inc, has developed 12 PC games based on his industry recognized Battlecruiser & Universal Combat brands. He is currently on the board of his local South FL chapter of the International Game Developers Association.

Daniel Ruke

Daniel is a creative illustrator, designer, artist & businessman who transforms visions into reality offering clients the best results and highest quality service. After graduating from Ringling School of Art & Design, he worked as an Art Director for several of the largest advertising agencies in Tampa & for a major Florida printer. Daniel opened Blink, a non-traditional agency in 1998, offering employees the freedom to create revolutionary work while making his clients successful. Daniel’s drive & passion keep Blink on the forefront of art & communication. If you ask him, he will tell you, “Work is not my life. I live my work.” The word “ordinary” is not in Daniel’s vocabulary. Everything he touches & everything that comes out of Blink is extraordinary.

Neill Glancy

Neill has shipped over twenty games spanning five console generations, from the Sinclair Spectrum to the Playstation 3. In his twenty-three years creating games, Neill has played the part of artist, animator, sound designer, game designer, project director and creative director. Most recently he was the lead designer on John Woo Presents Stranglehold at Midway Games. Neill has been a speaker at GDC and the Milan International Film festival. Neill is currently a Game Director at Disney’s Junction Point Studios in Austin, Texas.

We'd also like to remind everyone we've announced the full list of world record events we'll have at Infinite Bits, all officiated by Twin Galaxies.
