Will I see you tomorrow Chapter 13
Takamina’s heart dropped.
Before her eyes was the mansion surrounded by firefighters and the fire was spreading so quickly that the base of the house was stark black. Her eyes darted around for anyone familiar and upon seeing her friends huddled in the corner of the yard among a group of police, she sighed in relief.
She headed to them and it only took a second before she realize one person was missing. Atsuko.
“Takamina…I can’t beli-“ Mii chan started before harshly cut off by the midget’s desperate voice.
“W-Where’s Atsuko!?” Her voice was laced with fear and despondency.
Kojiharu’s eyebrow rose. “We thought she was with Kai…”
Without another word, Takamina ran straight into the burning building disregarding the voice and screams of her friends and firemen. Her short legs carried her to the front staircase before a plank of wood fell right in front of her. Her heart hammered in fear for the actress.
She was meant to protect everyone and yet there was a huge chance Acchan was still here. The sound of burning wood alerted her and she could hear a slight shout from the bedroom upstairs.
Skillfully dodging the flames, she moved up the staircase, her body heated up and her body bruised by the falling objects. She paid no mind to it. Who would, at a time like this.
Arriving to Acchan’s room, the sound of a soft shout loudened but still it was weak. Takamina pushed against the door and it crashed opened with no effort.
Her eyes darted to the room and finally it set on a sight that shut her heart down.
Acchan was hidden beneath piles of wood that prevented her from moving. Her leg was bleeding profusely and her beautiful face was scratched and bruised. Hodling back her tears, Takamina jumped across the flames and moved to where Acchan was.
Acchan looked up. Her eyes were half opened and it would only be moments before she fell unconscious forever. Like Minami would ever let that happen.
“Minami…” Her voice was weak…way too weak. It cut through Takamina like a spear.
“Atsuko. Let’s get you out of here.” She lifted the hot searing wood from Acchan’s legs but all was futile. The piles of material preventing Acchan from moving were impossibly heavy.
Takamina cried as she used her strength to pull it away. “Dammit! Please!!”
At that more of the roof collapsed and Minami instantly covered Acchan with her body, stifling a whimper at how useless she was.
“Leave me, Minami.”
“No. No. Never.” Takamina wiped her tears with the back of her hand and cried as she used several other planks to help remove the ones she couldn’t.
“I don’t want you to die too.”
Takamina cried louder. “NO!”
“I missed you, Minami and I’m so tired.” Acchan’s voice drifted.
Minami moved back to meet Atsuko’s eyes and placed a hand to her cheek. “Stay awake. We are staying alive together.”
“If you’re the last person I see, I’m happy. I really like you, Minami.”
Hearing her name come from the actress voice brought sorrow and shame despite the warmth it emitted. In no way was she going to let Acchan die. Never.
“I really like you too, so you’re staying alive. I want to see you on TV again.” She went back to work with the woods and within minutes her arms and fingers were bleeding.
But thankfully a miracle worked itself to the pair and moments later when the fire grew, Acchan was free. Carrying the actress on her back, Minami rushed out of the door and into the courtyard.
Will I see you tomorrow? “I’m fine.” Her arm was fractured and there was a few cuts and bruises but this, this was nothing compared to what she had put Acchan through.
Nothing. Miichan and Kojiharu watched their sister in full concern and sorrow. It had been two days since the fire and Takamina had been at the hospital since without food, or anything.
“This isn’t your fault.”
Takamina turned from her seat to face her sisters and stood up. "This is my entire fault. Don't say anything if you know nothing."
Miichan stood up. "We don't know anything because you won't tell us. What is wrong with you!"
"What is wrong with me? Atsuko nearly died, and you're asking me what is wrong. Use your brain for once!"
A slap resounded in the hospital hallway. Takamina held her hand to her cheek and looked down at the ground. Her shoulders slumped in shame and residual of her previous anger. She wasn't angry at her sisters, it was just directed at them because what other choice did she have. That mysterious figure was the mastermind behind all of this but where would she sought them out. They made it clear that they wanted her and because she didn't comply, one of her most important person nearly died.
She wanted to tell her sisters but who know what other dangers they could be brought in. Aki-Pi had already transferred the rest of the family to an apartment for for the time being. They had all lost themselves as soon as they saw Atsuko. Their sister nearly died and it was all her damn fault.
"Miichan...I'm so sorry...I am just so lost."
Kojiharu walked forward. "Let us help you." She placed a comforting hand to Takamina's shoulder, her other shoulder was occupied by Miichan's. She had no idea that this little gesture would bring her so much comfort and security. She was never protecting anyone, they were all protecting her.
Takamina shook her head and smiled sadly. "Promise me, you'll always trust me."
The two sisters nodded and pulled each other into an embrace. That was enough for Takamina. For now, this warmth could last her a decade.
Will I see you tomorrow. "M-Minami."
Takamina jolted awake by the soft voice and her eyes widen to see Acchan was indeed awake. Her eyes glimmered and tears glided down. Thank goodness. She pressed the doctor's button in a haste and her heart beamed when she met the actress' eyes. They were beautiful and oh how she had missed them so very very much.
"Welcome back."
Atsuko smiled but her breath caught in her throat as blood pounded in her brain and ears.
"I can't feel my legs"
Her voice was laced with panic and fear that would endlessly haunt Takamina as the actress broke down and tears drowned her eyes.
"I can't feel my legs, Minami!" The shock and pain in Atsuko's eyes made Minami want to scream. If...If Acchan loses her ability to walk because of that damn fire...no...that can't...no Acchan's dreams...everything would fall apart.
"Y-you'll feel it soon." Minami couldn't even force a smile because deep down she knew that those weight on Acchan's vertebrae was enough to damage her motor ability within her legs to work. It was too much to take in...she would never forgive herself.
"What else hurts?" Minami held the urge to hold the girl when she winced as another pain shoot through his spine. "...my lower back and arms and neck. But I can't feel anything below my waist." Tears ran down her eyes. "Why?! Why can't I feel anything!"
The doctor walked in at this moment and he looked sternly at Acchan. Aki-Pi followed and Takamina could only close her eyes and wish it was all a nightmare. "Maeda's lower spinal cord has been completely injured and the x-ray scans indicate that she - we cannot say for sure but -might no longer be able to have any sensation on her legs. We will do further tests and rehabilitation would commence after you are stable and the condition is confirmed."
Aki- Pi frowned and he stepped forward. "So meaning, she can no longer walk?"
"I can't be certain as we would need to run extra tests on her. i am very sorry to have to inform you this."
Takamina's heart clenched painfully at the whimper in Acchan's tone and the only thing she could do was pull her into a hug that seemed so empty. Looking into Acchan's emotionless expression, Takamina knew what she had to do.
Takamina clenched her eyes shut and felt the bile rise up her throat.
Her heart hardened and she grew numb.

On another note, Takamina's graduation. I'm happy she can start a new chapter to her life.
