Ok I agree... It might be traumatic to his family if it's released now and every TV channel is showing it. But  personally I don't see anything bad watching it. Seeing the accident doesn't disgrace him or anything.

Just watch the news and you'll see people dying every night.

I dunno where you live, but I've never ever seen a person dying on local or USA news O_o   They might say a lot of people die, they might even show a dead body on the floor, but they don't show people actually being killed. Maybe some people, like you, wouldn't find it disturbing. But I doubt that most people would agree...

And it's not that it disgraces him or anything... But, first of all, think of the family... if something like that happened to a member of your family, would you really be ok with his death being turned into the latest hot online video? I doubt it.

I understand your point of how it could be used for awareness on the dangers of animals or something maybe. But showing this video isn't really the way to raise awareness on that. Someone's death is a serious moment that deserves respect, and it certainly shouldnt become another piece of media entertainment for the masses...

I've read in the paper that people are wanting to go and kill the stingray that killed Steve Irwin.

Yeah, that's what's happening, it was reported in todays news.

Now that really annoys me. Not only is it a ridiculous notion to take revenge on an animal purely because it was following it's own instinct as part of it's nature, as all animals do, but now 10 innocent stingrays are killed as a result, with no regards on how it would affect the ecosystem. And if they were fans, they would surely know that it wouldn't be what Irwin wanted. Morons.

Having people go out and "take revenge" on innocent sea creatures, because one of them acted in self defense, is just downright stupid. Hopefully the 10 that were killed, were done by the same group of idiots, and they are caught and severely punished.

As for the footage, since his family turned down an offer for a state funeral, and went for a small private ceremony without the media, it must be quite clear they don't want his death turned into a media circus, which releasing that footage would do. I could understand if parts of it were released, that showed how big the ray was, and how close he was swimming next to it, but not the attack itself. And there's no real need to see it. Just knowing they can kill people, should be enough warning not to swim near them.

I guess Steve Irwin wouldn't want them to kill stingrays for him.

It happened again, but unlike Steve, this old guy was smart enough to leave the barb in, and have it removed at hospital.

Bertakis and his family members told police that a spotted eagle ray leaped out of the water and onto their 18-foot boat. When Bertakis tried to lift the stingray out of the boat, it hit him in the chest with its poisonous barbed tail.

Irwin was sort of a dick. He did this thing where he''d throw a croc off a boat and chase it down, just to prove he could. Ah whatever, he seemed like a nice guy...
