China Earthquake & Myanmar Cyclone Relief - Give a Little



Been meaning to make this thread for a while. Time to go all PSA on y'all.

I don't really mess with politics --- cuz I like to get stupid. But there is a time and place to be serious and these horrific incidents - Myanmar Cyclone and China Earthquake - I can't really ignore. We at JPHiP know that.

On Friday, May 2, 2008, tens of thousands of lives were lost and hundreds of thousands of homes were damaged when Cyclone Nargis unleashed high winds, heavy rain, and floodwater in southwestern Myanmar.



    On Monday, May 12, 2008, a major earthquake, measuring 7.9 8.0 on the Richter scale, jolted southwestern China’s Sichuan Province. Several lower-scale earthquakes and aftershocks followed in the same area. The quake destroyed many buildings in the area, as well as infrastructure like communication towers. According to the latest reports, more than 12,000 people have died and many more have been injured or are still missing. Many schools were destroyed, including one that had at least 900 students in it. As authorities reach more remote areas, these numbers are expected to rise.

And that's just a snapshot of what happens a day in the life. Best believe I've kept my eye on the Typhoon that hit The Phillipines. Tornadoes ripping through the USA. Mother Nature doesn't wait for no one. Life is precious, keep peoples in your lives close.

The earthquake in China, I feel, has debunked many of the Western world's attempts at villifying and demonising China in the build-up to the Olympics. They see on news reports of people being rescued under tonnes of rubble and mothers grieving for their children that really, they're no different from any of us. And the grief they must feel needs no translation.
