Messier to return in September 21 By Tanara McLean ,Edmonton Sun The Moose is coming back to the City of Champions.Former Oiler and NHL Hall-of-Famer Mark Messier is partnering with the Edmonton Kinsmen Club to host the second annual legends experience dinner.The Kinsmen announced Friday that Messier will be the headliner at the celebrity sports fundraising dinner Sept. 21.“We spoke to him a couple of weeks ago and he’s really excited just to be coming home for this event (and) having the ability to raise some money for Edmonton and area charities,” said Shawn Huculak, a spokesman with the Kinsmen Club of Edmonton.Messier’s former Oilers teammate Wayne Gretzky hosted the even last year — drawing a sell out crowd.Ticket holders will have a chance to rub shoulders with Messier and hear stories from his days with the Oilers.The event will also feature live and silent auctions and a comedian.The first legends experience held in September 2011 and sold out with more than 1200 people attending — ultimately raising more than $120,000.Tickets are sold on a per-table basis and can range from a table of 10 for $3,000 to an unspecified amount for a table with Messier himself.The 2011 event saw a local group pay close to $35,000 to sit with Gretzky throughout the evening.All of the proceeds raised go towards Kinsmen affiliated charities.For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.TheLegendsExperience.ca.tanara.mclean@sumedia.ca
