I can imagine there being lots of pats on the back all round at Kotaku right now.

But Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada said on Twitter today (via Andriasang) that the rumour was "false".

"There's someone making a false rumour that Versus was cancelled," he said. "Haha... just a minute ago, the regular Versus meeting ended. If you saw the presentation of the city, it'd knock you off your feet - lol."

THEN SHOW US ALREADY!! SHOW SOMETHING!! Damn....

I really hate their marketing strategy for Versus XIII... The game was announced SIX DAMN YEARS ago alongside with FFXIII.... And there is so little progress to the game....
They already should reveal more to the public, like they can do it with other FF games! Always keeping the good stuff to themselfs and teasing the Fans to death..... What do they have about it, by keeping everything to themself and teasing the Fans? Nothing! Only hate and rage of the Fans.

I can't speak to the quality of FFXIV on it's release but it seems to have gotten a pretty bad rep. Perhaps deservedly so, I dunno. But it's nice to see that SE realised this and are completely redoing the game over from scratch. It looks great and I'm genuinly interested in an MMO now since well...ever.

how awesome luna ^o^!!!!!!!

FFXIV wasn't as bad as everyone thought, a bit unfinished maybe, but it had great graphics and some great cutscenes, kind of sad that they're scrubbing most of the old stuff, including these :<

I still have the game and might pick it up again, however am so not an MMO player, I don't have the dedication or people skills to advance in such a game.

But I do have a friend from all the way back in XI that I still talk to, who knows...
She recently picked up XIV again to check out the 'new' stuff before it all gets scrubbed, there's a lot of 'End of days' talk by the NPC's and omens in the sky and such, like the big red ball is getting closer and closer

Guess the rumours are true, another XIII project looks to be in the works, an official Twitter account all but confirms it.

Forget that though, I just want them to hurry up and release Type 0 in the West.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Announced

As a fan of Lightning, I'm excited  :w00t:  :panic:  :w00t:
FFXIII-2 wasn't really that good imo... I still need to finish it too lol.

But I do wonder when will we get our hands on Versus XIII...

Sounds...interesting? I don't know, the Majora's Mask approach to fighting against the clock and the new battle system sound cool, but I kinda wish they were on a different IP. I thought XIII's universe was ok, but after XIII-2 I'm just bored with it. If I will be playing this new one, it won't be for the story. I kinda stopped caring after hearing a line like "We must change the history of the future!"

XIII-2 has some crazy difficulty spikes. 90% of the game is manageable, very easy most of the time, and here's me now, approaching the end of the game, with nearly full stats for Serah and Noel and I'm getting my ass kicked by the normal enemies in this closing area.

I still have to beat FF XIII but I'm stuck at the beginning of chapter 12....  You know, where you need to fight with Odin against some duse... I dunno anymore, how you call them. I didn't played FF XIII for so long D:
Anyone of you has a recommended battle style or whatever, how I can beat those dudes in the beginning at chapter 12?

XIII-2 has some crazy difficulty spikes.
Yeah! I actually have to take a look at the guides (and usually I'm like never looking at them since I feel like it's cheating..) to find some damn fragments... and right now I'm stuck with one Oerba puzzle. So annoying.

Those clock puzzles are just the worst. It wouldn't be nearly as bad if they didn't create a randomise the numbers again after anytime you failed it. Screw that.

^ Those clock puzzles were the worst,  made me almost give up the game esp. when you have to solve five or six in a row!!!

As for Lightning Returns.... the name alone is cringeworthy and I love Lightning, but that name... urgh.
I'm not sure yet, wether I like the idear or not.
At first glance it all sounds promising and I like the art design so far, but then everything they told us before FFXIII-2's release sounded like the perfect game as well, and then it turned out all wrong.
Elements like stealth and climbing and side quests like hunting down criminals, sound like S-E borrowed some guys from Hitman
And why Lightning??? Wasn't she dumped as FFXIII-2's main protagonist because nobody liked her? And now she gets her own game! (not that I'm complaining, I just don't get it)
Ah who am I kidding, I'm going to buy it anyway, I estimate an autumn 2013 release date.

Now here's something that appeals to the collector in me. SE announced that in celebration of 25 years of FF, they'll release a boxset of every main titled FF game

Quote
Square Enix look like they’re building up to a pretty major announcement at their Final Fantasy Gallery event in Japan, with the opening day already revealing a boxed set that contains every single numbered Final Fantasy game so far.

According to website Andriasang the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Ultimate Box will be available only through the Square Enix eShop and will weigh a hefty five kilograms. The box will also feature a brand new illustration by series regular Yoshitaka Amano. This is its full list of games:

Final Fantasy (PS one, 1 disc)
Final Fantasy II (PS one, 1 disc)
Final Fantasy III (PSP, 1 disc)
Final Fantasy IV (PS one, 1 disc)
Final Fantasy V (PS one, 1 disc)
Final Fantasy VI (PS one, 1 disc)
Final Fantasy VII International (PS one, 4 discs)
Final Fantasy VIII (PS one, 4 discs)
Final Fantasy IX (PS one, 4 discs)
Final Fantasy X (PlayStation 2, 1 disc)
Final Fantasy XI Vana Del Collection 2 (PlayStation 2, 1 disc)
Final Fantasy XII (PlayStation 2, 1 disc)
Final Fantasy XIII (PlayStation 3, 1 disc)

Apart from Final Fantasy X-2 and XIII-2 that is an impressively complete list, but the box also contains the following:

Special anniversary video disc
Crystal ArtWorks -- an anniversary visual art collection
A two-disc anniversary music selection CD
Final Fantasy XIV Mogu Mogu earring item code
Mini-replica of Amano Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary visual and stand

The box set will be released in Japan on December 18 (the exact date the very first game was released in Japan back in 1987) and will cost ¥35,000 – which is about £280.

Sony Japan president Hiroshi Kawano was on hand to point out that the forthcoming release of Final Fantasy III on PSP means that all the mainline games are now all available on one PlayStation format or another, finally making the Ultimate Box possible.

Kawano wasn’t the only big nob in attendance though, with Microsoft business chief Takashi Sensui also making an appearance and Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata providing a video message extoling Final Fantasy’s virtues.

Square Enix CEO was also on hand to assure fans that the Final Fantasy series is far from over, and that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still being made.

This is pretty cool, someone is recreating FFVII in Little Big Planet 2.

Quote
Jamie Colliver spent six months of his free time painstakingly recreating the revered JRPG using the malleable LBP2 tool set. The work spans 20 levels and covers all conversations, soundtracks, characters, bosses and enemies. Even the battle system has been recreated.

There was a sale on xbox live a week or two a go and I grudgingly bought all the FFXIII-2 DLC (costumes and story, not the extra arena battles).  I really enjoyed it much more than 13.  I'm hoping for Type-0 to be localized sometime soon.  The wait is getting ridiculous.

Sephiroth is an overrated character but there's a reason for it and not because of the length of his sword. To me, what FFVII does so well with Sephiroth is that he's always portrayed as an enigma. You only ever learn about him for the first time when you see the main villian at that time, President Shinra, had died and you only found his sword sticking out of him. It's a strong opening you thought Shinra was going to be the main villian for the whole game when you played it. You then learn about Sephiroth through some backstory and he's even a playable character for a time, showing you how badass he is, killing monsters in one hit, using materia you don't get until much later in the game. And after Cloud's (Zach's) backstory is told, which explains more of his personality, the game then just slowly builds him up afterwards.

For example, you find the corpse of a giant snake, a monster which you just cannot kill at that point in the game, impaled on a tree. Your party cannot take one out and this single guy does with ease. It's little things that keep building up this idea in your head of what this villian can do and makes you excited (and somewhat tentative) for the time when you eventually do. And on top of that, he goes and pulls a dick move by killing Aerith, now making it personal to you, the player.

Doesn't mean much to me seeing as I never played it, but the servers for FFXIV shut down in preparation for the reboot. They put out a movie for it too, tieing it to an end of world event.
