@Ayako
Glad you got the full unlock. Tuffty's right though, their original roles are where they're most strong.

I mainly kept the group as Lightning/Fang/Vanille. Or TEAM X-2 :P

Started battles with COM/SAB/SAB then alternate RAV/COM/MED, RAV/COM/RAV and MED/SEN/MED
That can basically take anything on.

Didn't have a SYN, but later had Lightning take that spot too.
Double SABs are so fun.

It's mostly COM/RAV/RAV for guys I know I can take, otherwise it's COM/SYN/SAB to balance out the odds. Lately I've been using paradigms that have at least one MED in there.

Well I beat the fal'Cie in the tower, which wasn't too bad at all but then! Man. I took on the mission that opens up afterwards, which is the Undying Cie'th and he wiped out the whole party in two hits :o The hell? This will be fun. :nervous

The VA's for Lightning and Snow were at some panel recently and did a bit of fanservice. Including this hilarious faceoff between Lightning and Snow

I beat him in my 3rd try! XD That guy had over 1 million HP but wasn't so bad so long as you've got Barthunder on all the party. Snow is a must in that battle! Seeing the benefits of upgrading now, finally. Having Lightning wear a maxed out accessory that boosts lightning defense by 35% on top of Barthunder, surely helped me out.

Just reached Oerba and it's a really great location. The music fits the setting perfectly, and it is a gorgeous looking locale.

Also just want to ask a question here about weapons I've been picking up lately. Is there any benefit to using weapons where they have some crippling status effect? Like just there now I picked up a new set of guns for Sach, they're the most powerful ones I own, yet there's a status effect on it that greatly reduces your HP. I think there's some other weapons I have as well that reduce magic strength or don't build up the chain meter. Why even have these? I can only assume that if you level them up to the max and use a stone to make it a new weapon then it becomes a much better weapon without that status effect.

Playing FFXIII this morning where *SPOILERS* I beat Barthandelus again. I got killed the first time round but that was because I wasn't anticipating a boss battle, and went in there with Vanille as the party leader with Snow and Sach. Not the best healers in the world XD Second time round with Lightning/Hope/Fang and I owned :D And the Crystalarium expanded again! :o Now, is that the last time it expands or does it do so again when the game is over? I've looked ahead at some of the abilities and there's some there that sound awesome! I got Last Resort for Hope and felt like a real badass using it. With the camera angle shift and the time it takes to pull off, it almost seems like a Limit Break you can use over and over XD

So it seems like it's reached the point in the story where you leave Pulse and approach the end game so I have just one question before I do go. I remember seeing some kind of fal'Cie in the Sulyaa Springs area, they showed him off in a cutscene and one of the tips you find around Oerba is that you should stay away from the edge to avoid it. I've returned back to there but was unable to find him, there was no point of interest marked on the map or anything. Is it possible to fight it, and if so, can it be done at Chapter 11? Or is it part of a mission that opens up after end game? I really just want to tie up loose ends before I go to the next Chapter, like some treasure chests that are guarded by some enemies that seem like mini-bosses. They're certainly got enough health and are tough enough to seem that way. I'm a lot stronger than when I first fought them, so I may stand a better chance now! Yes I know you'll come back afterwards, but I can't help trying, I want that damn chest! XD

That's it! That's what I was telling you about in my earlier posts! :nervous That boss fight is without question, the most difficult thus far. But it's a pretty epic fight. I'll tell you what I had done to beat him if you need some guidance.

- Use Hope! - Sach may be really useful with Haste, Bravery and Faith, but Hope's got Protect! And he is one of the best medics in the game, and a powerful ravager. Can't go wrong.
- Use Fang! - Casting Libra on Raines shows that he's susceptible to Slow. Exploit that heavily by having Fang in your party and making her a Saboteur when possible. Don't forget each debuff spell she casts does damage and builds up the chain meter. That's not to forget that as a Commando she's like Auron on steroids, and as a Sentinel she can easily soak up the damage from Raine's hard hitting combos.
- Paradigms! - You really have to switch paradigms in this battle. Ideally, you want to get in a defensive paradigm when he's in offense and go offensive when in defense. SEN/MED/MED really helps out for when you're in defense, COM/RAV/RAV, COM/RAV/SEN, COM/RAV/MED, COM/SYN/SAB helps out any other time. I'd use COM/SYN/SAB at start of battle and any other time he decides to do Sepharic Ray, which removes all your buffs, all his debuffs and buffs himself and then wail on him. RAV/RAV/RAV can also build up the chain meter quickly when he's in defense mode. Stagger em, switch to COM/RAV/RAV and then hit him hard, that's really the only way you'll land some big damage on him.
- Accessorise! - Raines can cast some really annoying debuff effects, Fog is perhaps the worst as it messes up your ability to cast spells which is a real downer if it hits a Medic when you need it most. So, with Lightning as the party leader, I maxed out the accessory that grants Fog resistance and equipped it onto her and it didn't hit me so much, which helped a lot, as I can then use her Esuna to bring back Hope and have him heal again.
- Summon! - There will come a point in the fight when Raines decides to go insane, and really hit you hard, I came close to dying after Hope and Fang went down and he had all his buff effects. So I summoned Odin. Not only did he deal a decent amount of damage, but Fang and Hope came back into the battle with full health and no debuffs. Very beneficial.

So that's my tips! It is hard, no doubt about it, it took me more than 5 times to do it which is perhaps the most retries I've ever spent on a JRPG storyline boss since the end boss in Persona 3 or the Demon Wall in FFVII! Just keep at it! The reward for beating him at the end is a very useful item you'll definately make use of, so not only is it rewarding in itself to beat that guy, you also get some sweet loot as a result :D

^ Raines hard? I think I beat him on my second try (can't remember what party members I used though)
It's funny, I find all the bosses that others describe as hard quite easy (at least they didn't put up much of a fight against me) and the ones that others describe as piece of cake are really hard for me XD

I picked up FF13 again today, I'm at the end(?) of Ch.11 (we're probably at the same spot Tuffty)
But I went back and did some leveling up instead of fighting a certain someone XD
