The Japanese Collectors Edition for Agito has been revealed:

Don't count on it coming to Europe or maybe even the US. I know Tactics Ogre had a sweet collectors edition in Japan but never made it overseas.

Also, could there be a FF13-3?

Final Fantasy XIII Team Hints at Sequel

Elsewhere in the interview, Kitase revealed that the team that made Final Fantasy XIII is at work on their next project. According to Kitase, Square Enix has a policy of each team making a game at a pace of one title every two years, so the wait for this title will presumably not be too long.

Looks like more information will be released on FFXIII-2 at the Tokyo Game Show next week, perhaps the most important being a release date. But there's a ton of info already put out there from the announcement of the announcement!

Quote
Asked if they're looking into releasing download content, producer Yoshinori Kitase asked a PR person "Is it okay if I say?" but was denied permission, so he instead said that they're actively looking into it.

Asked if we'll get a limited edition, Kitase said they're "really actively looking into it."

If you have your XIII save data, you'll get some bonuses in XIII-2.

As previously announced, XIII-2 has a monster raising component. Your characters are built up using a new growth system like the Crystarium system from the original. Your monsters have their own growth system which is similar to this.

You'll find over 150 monster types in the game. They all have unique inputs for performing their special skills, so those who aren't too good with action games can select a monster with simple controls.

In XIII, you could only ride Chocobos in the Gran Pulse world. In XIII-2, you can ride them anywhere. However, you won't have access to Chocobos at the start of the game. You'll gain access at a point where it starts to be difficult to move around with ease.

The game will have a red Chocobo. Toriyama says that this will be a unique Chocobo amongst the series' Chocobos.

That Moogle Serah uses as a weapon and as a means of grabbing items items is from Lightning's world. He's come to help Serah.

The "Fragments" shown in last week'S screenshots of the game's time travel interface are part of a quest system. You get them from NPCs and can attempt to clear the related quest. You'll start to encounter these fragments right from the game's first chapter.

Asked about the game's length, Toriyama explained that just looking at the story volume, it's a bit shorter than XIII. However, there are all sorts of additional play elements this time, including the time travel, the fragments, and lots of mini games.

It was already announced that most of the characters from XIII will appear in XIII-2. We'll get an introduction to some of those characters at TGS. Some of the characters will be playable (not necessarily at TGS, but playable in the game).

Serah and Snow are not yet married, and Snow apparently has a good reason for this. In the final version of the game, we'll get the full word on the current status of their relationship.

Development on XIII-2 is currently at 90%. The game has been in development for a little over one and a half years, according to Kitase.

That's awesome that those with XIII save files get some bonuses. SE seems really good about listening to feedback, sounds like the gripes I had with XIII are being addressed. I don't even mind XIII-2 having a shorter story, if they have those monsters to collect, mini games and other features he's talking about then there should be enough to keep me going!

I do hope someone makes a Gran Pulse Rap like from Pokemon

Square HAVE bought the domain for FF13-3 so it's possible.

Here's gameplay from Theatrhythm

I will say this, it doesn't look like a 3DS game. And not exactly worthy of the price tag a 3DS game brings either.

^ But would you be happy if the VII remake was on the Vita and not PS3?

They chose X because it's the easiest one to make to make in HD for. All you need to do is what, upscale the textures a bit? Anything from VI-IX requires way more work, you'd need a complete remake of all assets for a start, including backgrounds and movies. Not to mention the low polygon blockiness of the character models would put people off. Besides, if this was anything from VII-IX, people would be bitching that the originals were released on the PS Store months ago.

Oh and also, FFX is the most popular FF in Japan, if that 5 year old poll from Famitsu is still accurate. So, all in all it makes sense. I'm looking forward to seeing it. Because of the 2D backgrounds/plains, this could end up being really good looking on top of what is a great game. I guess what I'd like most of all is if the lip syncing was more accurate!

I don't see why games shouldn't be re-released all the time. Nobody is forcing you to buy it every time.

Nobody seems to care when music and movies are on newer formats, and in fact people tend to complain when their favourite films aren't on the newest format available. Who wants Jurassic Park on Blu Ray, it's readily available on VHS after all.

Course FF-X deserves a remake. I love it.

On the other hand, VII is much older.
Current gen gamers probably either haven't even played the game (all their knowledge about the game is emo types and big swords from discussions on the net), or forgotten most of the gameplay. So from a gaming point, VII would give more value.
It would be a much longer wait than FF-X since it's building from the bottom up. But, if anything, FF players are pretty used to waiting. :) They could announce it today and not have it out till 2020, and FF players might still be ok with that... :nervous

I got stupidly excited when I heard this new bit of FFXIII-2 news. Ever wanted a break from running down corridors and fighting monsters? Well FFXIII-2 has it's own Gold Saucer equivalent with minigames and Chocobo racing

Take my money already! :w00t:
