Part 11: EVA
NERV Headquarters, deep underneath Hakone
The girls stepped on to a steel platform, where they met three tall men.
“Hey, you’re Yoshida, the Olympic Judo champion, aren’t you?” asked Rika.
“Yes I am. Hidehiko Yoshida, nice to meet you,” said a grim faced man.
“I’m Kazayuki Fujita, nice to meet you as well. I really liked ‘Aisucream to my Pudding’, by the way,” said a tall man. He was wearing a modern sports jacket, but over his waist he wore an intricately stitched belt of red cloth. Rika recognized it from numerous war movies – it was a Senninbari, a thousand stitch belt, woven by the mothers and sisters of kamikaze pilots during the Pacific War.
“I’m Kazushi Sakuraba. Rika, I’ve been a fan of you since you were a little girl. It’s great to be able to finally meet you,” said kind looking man with a smile.
“Nice to meet you as well,” said the girls in unison. Erika Miyoshi said, “Captain Ikari said that there were 6 robots – so I guess you’ll be piloting the other three?”
“I guess so, although the only robots I’ve piloted are in video games. I really don’t understand why they chose me,” said Sakuraba.
The metal platform they were standing on rumbled and moved forward. It made its way into a large cavern-like space. The 6 young men and women on the platform let out a loud gasp when they saw what was housed on one end of the facility: a giant purple-colored human-shaped robot.
Standing in the middle of the cavern was Captain Ikari. His voice echoed throughout the space. “What you see before you is EVA-01. It was one of the first biomechanical products of the EVA program. The EVA program wasn’t originally conceived to defend mankind against Gojira, but it is now the last hope of humanity.
Rika spoke up. “So what was the original purpose of the EVAs?” she asked.
Ikari gave her a stern look, and said, “That is none of your concern.”
He continued, “As an EVA pilot, you will interface mentally and physically with your vehicles. The biomechanical intelligence of the vehicle will work with you. You provide the will, the inspiration, and the objective, and the EVA will provide the precise control.”
He looked at the three men. “Make no mistake – although your fighting ability is great, your will and fighting spirit are even greater.”
He looked at the girls. “The voices of you girls have inspired millions. You must work with your EVA, inspire it, and you might have a chance at saving humanity.”
Ikari pointed at a crate next to him. “Inside that crate are your uniforms, which have been specifically designed to interface with your vehicles. They require a skin-tight fit in order to work properly, so you must not wear any undergarments.”
He looked grimly at Fujita’s waist. “Those of you wearing thousand-stitch belts may bring them with you into your vehicles. Change into your uniforms now. You’re names are printed on each them. Then proceed to your vehicle - the other five vehicles are in the garages next door.”
“Where are the changing rooms?” asked Rika.
Ikari raised an eyebrow. “You’re all adults. Just change right here,” he said.
Yoshida rushed to the crate and took out three uniforms. He gave the uniforms to his two fellow fighters and joined them in turning his face away from the girls. Relieved, the girls took out the remaining uniforms and quickly changed. Each uniform had a number on it, from 1 to 6, and each was a different color. The girls found that uniforms weren’t skin-tight at all. They were in fact quite loose. When they were finished, they turned around.
Suddenly, their suits emitted a sucking sound, and the suits shrunk to become skin-tight. The girls covered their crotches and breasts in embarrassment. The men quickly turned their faces and walked to their vehicles.
Yui whispered to Erika as they walked to their EVAs. “This suit is jammed all the way up my ass!” she said.
“It makes your breasts look great though,” said Erika. “But just look at the camel toe my suit is giving me,” she whispered.
Next to each vehicle was a steel platform. Rika stepped onto her platform, and it automatically rose to the level of the vehicle’s head. She saw an opening on it’s head and crawled in. Inside was a comfortable couch. She sat down. Suddenly, the opening clanged shut. Before she knew it, a clear colorless liquid quickly seeped into the chamber.
“Help!” Rika screamed. “There’s a leak here!” She stood up on her couch, but soon the liquid had reached her chin. She panicked and was soon under the liquid. It seemed to seep into her suit, enveloping her in a slick warmth. She held her breath as long as possible, until she finally had to let go. Feeling the corners of her vision go dark, she gasped the liquid into her lungs. It was painful at first, but she was soon surprised to learn that inhaling the liquid allowed her to breathe. Once she got the hand of it, she almost forgot that she was swimming in warm liquid.
Presently, she heard a rumbling beneath her. She realized that the entire garage was an elevator and she was being raised to the surface. She heard a voice in the back of her head saying, “leaving… home….” Rika gasped. It was like the memory of a memory of a voice long forgotten. Was this the biomechanical intelligence of her EVA that Captain Ikari had talked of?
Presently, the roof of the cavern opened and she rose to the surface. Standing next to her were the five other EVAs. Somehow, she knew instantly who was in each EVA.
Rika heard Ikari’s voice in her head. “Ishikawa’s EVA is armed with etorphine, an opiate 3,000 more powerful than morphine. Miyoshi’s EVA is armed with tubocurarine, the most powerful muscle relaxant known to man. Otada’s EVA is armed with a genetically engineered fast-acting version of the bubonic plague. Sakuraba’s EVA is armed with the nerve gas Cyclosarin. Fujita’s EVA is armed with a sulfur-based mustard gas blister agent. And Yoshida’s EVA is armed with a the blood agent hydrogen cyanide.
“Each of your EVA’s contain enough biological and chemical agents to kill several hundred million people. However, since you’ll be fighting in a barren zone, there will be little chance that your weapons will infect anybody but the Beast. Your EVAs are programmed with his last known location. Now go, and may God be in his heaven, and all be right with the world.”
Rockets in the feet of the EVAs exploded and the six were sent speeding southwest. As they flew to their fates, the girls heard Yoshida’s voice in their heads. “Girls, could you sing us a song?” he asked.
As the EVAs flew over Mount Fuji, the girls sang Issai Gassai Anata ni A-Ge-Ru, I'll Give Anything and Everything to You.
