The head of a Chinese manufacturer whose lead-tainted Sesame Street toys were the center of a massive U.S. recall has killed himself, a state-run newspaper said Monday.
Cheung Shu-hung, who co-owned Lee Der Industrial Co., committed suicide at a warehouse over the weekend, apparently by hanging himself, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

he hung himself because he can't afford the penalities for loosing those orders ("broke the contract" ?!) ....... according to some chinese newspaper
EDIT: The penalities are over 200 Million Chinese Yuan (over USD $26.4 million)

There's a paranoid troll in another forum I frequently go to that has a whole vendetta against the Chinese, thinking all of these faulty tires, or minute traces of lead in toothpaste are some plot from them to kill U.S. civilians. This will just add more fuel to the fire...

He commits suicide because he cannot bear on pressures. Pressures could come from Communist party, sense of betrayal by close friend (paint supplier), society pressure, self pressure, financial pressure. Too bad we don't know his suicide note yet, because it could shed some insight on his thinking and emotional condition.

It's not uncommon for people to commit suicide because of failed investments. And since it cost him over 20 millin USD, he and his company probably won't be able to recover from it. And with everything else, it's not really surprising, though it is tragic.

I doubt you'd be millions in dollars in debt from being an engineer
