Touch-screen iPod to take center stage
« on: September 04, 2007, 07:58:07 PM »

Quote from: Think Secret
September 4, 2007 - Apple will at last unveil a touch-screen iPod with a 3.5-inch display at its media event Wednesday [5th sept @ 5:00PM - GMT], sources have confirmed, some 20 months after Think Secret first broke word of the device's development.
The new iPod will feature similar dimensions to Apple's iPhone with which it will share the same display, but sources except the iPod to continue to sport a hard drive in place of Flash memory. Solid state media commands a roughly 15-fold price premium per gigabyte over a 1.8-inch hard drive, which is now available in substantial quantities at capacities up to 120GB.

Yeah, the 160GB is like the new version of the ipod video. You still use the scrool wheel, it has not touch capabilities, nor wifi.

The big difference is that you have to pay for the iphone's service

It's pretty much an alternative for people who want the iphone but don't want a new cellphone or want to pay for the service

Too expensive just for the gimmick of a touch screen. I'm still comfortable with my 80GB iPod video, so there's no way I'm forking out that much money for something with far less storage capacity.

Touch-screen doesn't seem worth the extra price.

I do plan to pick up an iPod Video Nano. They look nifty, and I just cashed in my VISA Points for $125 of Future Shop gift certificates, so that should cover most of the cost.
