Nuns Part 4

"Ai-chan! There you are!" Risa called out to her best friend, who was currently surrounded by a group of children gazing starry eyed up at her.

Ai smiled in greeting, shooing the kids away as they asked her to sing for them again. "Later, I promise." She patted a few of the younger ones on the head and sent them on their way.

"These kids keep sneaking away from lessons to come listen to you." Risa shook her head in some exasperation. Ai shrugged.

"I like to sing." Bending over, she brushed the dirt from her robes, her hair cascading down past her shoulders as she had left it uncovered for once. Sunlight kissed her form, making her seem more radiant than usual.

"You shouldn't indulge them so much." Risa scolded lightly, tugging Ai on the arm as they went to sit by the rose bushes. Ai smiled, a tad of mischief in her eyes.

"That's why you're in charge and I'm not. I get to be as irresponsible as I want~" Risa huffed indignantly.

"Can't you believe you're actually older than me too..." The pair sat quietly, enjoying the comfortably warm weather and atmosphere that lay between them.

"The kids have been out for a while." Ai suddenly spoke up. Risa raised one eyebrow.

"Don't let Reina hear you call her a kid, she'll throw a fit..." They looked at each other.

"Just like a kid." They ended together, then giggled.

"It must be nice to be young..." Ai mused, stroking a fallen rose petal. Risa scoffed lightly.

"You're not that old, Ai-chan. Stop talking like you're an obasan." She paused, then continued tentatively. "Are you feeling alright? Your body's fine right?"

"I'm perfectly healthy, Risa." Ai said with some exasperation. She let the petal fly as her hand went back to her lap. "Honestly, I'm not an invalid, so stop treating me like one."

"But you know what happens when you try to summon..." Risa said anxiously, concern hooding her eyes. Ai shook her head.

"I haven't been out of the grounds for months. No chance for summoning anything." Ai pouted like a child. "Stationary targets are so boring, and you don't let me go out to patrol..."

"I can't let you go out on your own, you can't seal the rifts without summoning your angel, and the last time you did that, you ended up in a coma for a week!" Risa's voice had gotten louder in her agitation, as it always did. Ai merely patted her best friend's hand.

"I know, I know." Frustration edged that beautiful voice. "I don't have to go out alone...you could always send me out with one of the others..."

"I can't split that troublesome trio up...they've worked together for so long that they'd be off balance otherwise." Risa sighed. "The new Chinese girls are an unknown, but they look like a stable partnership already...and I definitely can't send you out with the acolytes. They don't have angels yet and you can't use yours either..."

"There's you." Ai looked so earnestly at Risa that the younger had to avert her eyes.

"I can't leave the church unprotected...you know that..." Risa muttered. "Sometimes I hate having to be responsible..."

Ai looked off into the distance, and Risa felt the older girl's sadness again. It wrenched her heart to sense it, and she gripped Ai's hands tightly within her own.

"Do you think all the demon crossings are a result of human agency?" Ai changed the subject abruptly again, leaving Risa blinking rapidly at the shift.

"It's possible...but we haven't had any reports of a rise in occult activity. Then again, they could be doing it secretly, so it's hard to track." Risa frowned thoughtfully. "With our new recruits, we could probably afford to do a more thorough sweep though..."

"Let me go with them." Risa was about to object immediately when Ai raised one hand.

"You know my sensing abilities are the strongest here, even without Sandalphon summoned. Only Kamei-chan can come close with her Uriel manifested, and she's better off in combat in any case, especially with me unable to summon." Ai sounded very logical as she laid out her case. Her voice betrayed none of the pain it must have caused her to admit her own weakness.

Risa ground her teeth together. She knew that she couldn't keep Ai safe and protected forever, but it didn't stop her from trying. If she had her way, she'd keep the older girl away from combat for the rest of her life. But there was no keeping Ai away from it. There was no one else who believed in their cause as fervently as one Takahashi Ai did, most likely because she had seen for herself how much damage even an incomplete demon summoning could cause.

"Ai-chan, I can't promise anything but..." Risa was cut off when Ai suddenly sprang to her feet.

"What is it?" Risa asked, then she froze as a wave of negative energy washed over her. It was so close! A scream rang out in the distance.

"The children!" Risa choked out even as Ai already started running towards the commotion. "Ai-chan, wait! That's..."

"Demon." One of the acolytes was already pinned against the wall, a black spike piercing right through her chest. The perpetrator was licking his claws, appearing deceptively humanoid in appearance. But there was no mistaking the dark aura emanating from what looked like a young adolescent.

"An A-class Devil Lord." Ai muttered as Risa skidded to a halt next to her. The beautiful young boy smiled like an angel, a sinister gleam playing in his rainbow irises.

"Very perceptive of you, pretty." Sharp fangs glinted in the sun, whose rays now seemed sickly, weakened by the heavy miasma that hung over the courtyard.

"Let me introduce myself. I am the Demon Knight Anshel, in the service of Prince Asmodeus of the First Circle." The demon smiled beatifically. "Pleasure to meet such lovely ladies."

Risa had already positioned herself protectively before Ai, her hood and sleeves already pushed back for action. A light blue glow already stained her fingers, as she muttered the incantation.

"Ah, no introduction in return? I'm disappointed." He frowned as a magic circle formed around Risa's feet. "Oh I see, a Paladin?" He cocked his head. "Or one of the famous Avatars?"

A volley of icy spikes was his only answer. The thick spears of solid ice thudded into the flagstones, and Risa muttered an oath under her breath as she realized that she had missed. Or rather, the demon had dodged.

"Avatar then." Anshel was perched on top of the nearby fountain, seemingly unconcerned by the attack. Risa growled and materialized her weapon, a great curved bow apparently carved out of ice. Even as she stepped forward, one could dimly see the image of a winged figure superimposed over her, blue cape fluttering in some imaginary breeze.

"Left." Ai called out, Risa reacting instantly with a blue tinted shield as a black spike came hurtling towards her out of nowhere. The dark energy was absorbed into the watery shield and neutralized, blinking out instantly as Risa returned the favor with a volley of ice arrows.

"Not bad." Anshel was suddenly in front of Risa, a black sabre crashing down on the divine bow as Risa hastily parried. The demon was fast, too fast, and Risa began to sweat as she drove him backwards with a wave of holy energy.

"Scissors two-six!" Ai cried out, Risa adapting instantly to the warning, shifting her bow into a long halberd as she pivoted to block the incoming attacks from the indicated directions. A quick return circle slash managed to nick the demon knight across the shoulder as he bounded back.

"Keh, you're really too perceptive for your own good!" Anshel seemed somewhat ticked off by the scratch. He flashed forward, heading towards the apparently unprotected Ai who stood off to one side.

"Ai-chan!" Risa yelled as she scrambled towards Ai unthinkingly. Ai yelled back in frustration.

"Risa, stay back!" But emotion overrided good sense, and Risa charged straight at Anshel's back recklessly. The demon knight smirked and flung a few dark needles of energy towards the onrushing Avatar.

Risa reacted quickly, managing to deflect two of the needles, but it was too close to avoid entirely. The other six needles seemed destined to turn her into a pin cushion. Anshel began to laugh.

A rapid series of shots echoed throughout the courtyard. Anshel spun around to see the tiny nun behind him wielding a pair of smoking guns. Runes covered the entire surface of the modified weapons, and Anshel growled as he felt the holy power emanating from the guns.

"You're more trouble than I thought..." The demon knight snarled, stalking menacingly towards the gunslinging nun. Ai stared at him unflinchingly; though she felt fear, she did not let it overtake her. Instead, she let the feeling strengthen her resolve, the natural impulse to hum a hymn of praise bubbling up from her throat.

"You're a terrible shot though, only just barely nicked me." Anshel sneered as he closed the distance. Ai looked at him resolutely, then smiled.

"Who says I missed?" Anshel faltered, then stiffened as something pierced right through his chest from behind. He looked down at the icy spear point that had emerged from his chest.

Risa stood on the other end of the long spear, none the worse for wear from the sneak attack. The needles from the failed attack laid in scattered fragments on the flagstones behind her, along with the spent shells of blessed bullets that had diverted the deadly shards.

"This is what they call teamwork, demon." Risa added, calling out the name of her guardian angel as she channeled the divine power down the spear.

"Gabriel!" A tall armored angel manifested more solidly over her, placing one hand on the spear as a burst of light exploded through the demon's chest.

Anshel howled as the light tore through his armor, shredding his outer human skin and revealing the horned devil beneath. Cracks began to run through the black hide, glowing a sickly neon red.

With a burst of dying strength, the disintegrating demon knight wrenched himself from the end of the spear and staggered forward, making a last desperate lunge at Ai, who neatly sidestepped it, the extended claws only managing to graze her cheek, barely drawing any blood.

The two warrior nuns looked on as the demon knight contracted in on itself, spasming and cracking up even more. Glowing red eyes stared up at his executioners, a long forked tongue flicking between bared fangs.

"This town belongs to us! The blood of the virgins hath been spilled, the contract signed and sealed in flame. It is ours, and we will claim it!" The demonic hiss chilled the blood of all those who heard it, and flaming eyes locked on the suddenly immobile form of Ai.

"Your blood is sweet, little one." Dark, sadistic glee tainted that corrupted voice. "Sweet as the sacrifices!" Ai shuddered, lips quivering as she backed away from the sneering demon, who was breaking up more and more, his body crumbling to dust.

The last words of the demon were lost in a rush of the harsh language of devils, snarling and spitting as that flaming eyeball turned to ash. Risa quickly called up the chains of binding, sealing the temporal rift and purifying the area with the holy power of the Archangel Gabriel before other demons could cross over to cause any more trouble.

When she was done, Risa turned to look at Ai, who had sunk to her knees and was trembling like a leaf. Her breathing was shallow, as if she were about to have a fit again.

"Ai-chan! Are you ok?" Risa knelt by the older girl, rubbing her back soothingly and enfolding her in a half embrace. Ai had one hand on her grazed cheek, eyes distant and terrified.

"I remember now..." Her voice shook as her fingers dug into her cheek.

"I'm scared, Risa...they're coming back..." Ai muttered incoherently, eyes wild. "So much blood...so much..."

"Ai-chan! Snap out of it!" Risa cried, trying to jerk Ai back into reality. Ai turned terror-filled eyes to her best friend. She was crying.

"Help me..."

OH MY GAH YOU POSTED 3 PARTS WHILE I WAS ASLEEP?!?!? T__T

Well, anyway, this story is just getting more and more interesting considering I have no background knowledge whatsoever compared to the rest of you. It's really caught my attention!! So everyone's finally all together... But I can't help but wonder what happened to poor Ai-chan. :(

Nuns Part 3

Quote
Muffled voices in the background. A very groggy Tanaka Reina burrowed deeper under her blankets. It was too early to go demon hunting, and not quite yet time for lunch. Her internal clock was good enough for that at least.
Being able to tell that it's not quite time for lunch? That's one heck of an internal clock.

Quote
"SENPAI!!! WAKE UP!!!!"

Bang. Boom. Rustle.

Was that glass cracking or did a mini atom bomb just go off somewhere in the church?
What the? :O

Quote
Her comrade would really rather leave her in bed. Actually, she would rather be in bed herself too, but something had come up and a certain someone had made it a command appearance. So if Sayu had to suffer, Reina would have to as well.
Oooooooooooooh...something big, eh?

Quote
The bunny of the trio began to smirk evilly as a plan came to mind...

Sleeping was terribly difficult to do when one's blood was rushing all the way to one's head. That was the first thought Reina had when the unbearable pressure threatened to push her eyeballs out of their sockets. She was very nearly purple in the face when she caught sight of a smirking Sayumi sitting on a chair.

"Sayu! Let me down now!" Being suspended upside down in midair was not a pleasant experience for Reina.
Oh, nicely done Sayu! XD

Gotta admit, I'm rather impressed that she'd be able to hold Reina upside-down on her own (even though Reina is physically the smallest of the three of them). Knowing Sayu though, she just would have used magic to do it. :P

Quote
Reina bit off a few curses as she struggled to get upright again. Unfortunately, her element of electricity was not of much use when she was being held by air magic. She only succeeded in shooting sparks all over the place and shorting out not quite a few electronical devices.

Including the much abused alarm clock, because it suddenly exploded as an indirect result of Reina's panic, a stray spring pinging off the kitten's forehead. Needless to say, it did not serve to improve her mood.
* JFC mentally pictures this happening.

:on lol:

Quote
"Why did Gaki-san make us wake up so early?" Reina grumbled as she pawed sleepily at her eyes. Eri blinked vacantly, before snapping back to attention.

"I think it was Ai-chan who called me..." Eri turned to look at Sayumi, who shrugged. "Gaki-san froze my bed after pouring a bucket of well water on me..."
Risa has freezing powers? So then, each of the girls' powers are focused on a particular element (air, wind, etc.), and they're able to wield it as they wish/need?

Quote
Eri giggled. "I guess I got off easy. Ai-chan pulled me out of my dreams...I was having a splendid one about unicorns and umeboshi too..."

Reina stared. "She can do that?"

Eri scratched her neck absently. "I dunno how, but one moment I was there in my dream, then the next moment I saw her shimmer in and take my hand, and then I woke up." The turtle girl had a puzzled expression on her face.
Aichan has psychic powers? I guess that she must be unable to physically use them in a fight, considering her pouting about it in a previous chapter.

Quote
The three girls in question quickly dusted themselves off and got up, trying to retain some form of dignity in front of outsiders. The strangers, one tall and one short, had a distinctly foreign cast to their faces, and their habits were of a slightly different cut than theirs.

"The higher ups in the Order responded to our appeal for reinforcements, so as of today we are welcoming two transfer agents from the Chinese branch." Risa looked over at Ai, who led the newcomers over.
Strangers? Chinese branch?

JunLin!?!?!? :w00t:

Quote
"This is Li Chun." Pointing at the taller one, who bowed politely. "Just call me Junjun."

"And this is Qian Lin." The younger and shorter one also bowed, before bouncing up with a friendly smile on her face. "Just call me Linlin!"
JUNLIN!!!   :cow:

Quote
"I want the three of you to show them around the city. You know, what to look out for and where the usual hotspots are." Risa instructed. Reina was the first to raise any objections.

"Why us? Any one of the acolytes can do that!"

Risa sighed. Ai cut in easily.

"Because you three are the ones on active duty, so you will know the ground better than any of the trainees." Ai's voice was firm as she stepped closer to the trio. She might have been small, but she knew how to be intimidating when the situation called for it.

Reina seemed about ready to argue, but something in Ai's eyes discouraged her from doing that. She swallowed her objections and went back to stare at her own feet.
Aichan's got "the look". You know the one, the "don't bother trying to get out of this unless you want me to get pissed off" look.  O0

Quote
"Also, you'll be taking two of the senior acolytes with you on patrol from now on. They're on probation until they can take the promotional exam. As seniors, you three must take care of them as well." Risa looked over her shoulder.

"Koharu! Aika! Come over here!"
Koharu and Aika are up for promotion to active duty? Good for them. A little first hand, real-world field experience is good to have.

Quote
Edit: Oh, to JFC, Metatron is the twin brother to Sandalphon, and is one of the chief angels and also a scribe of all events that have taken place. Metatron also has the power to exorcise demons that even the 4 Archangels cannot dispel. Why does Aichan wear the seal of Metatron? I wonder.
K, so Aichan's angel is still Sandalphon, right? She's not "bonded" (for lack of a better word) to Metatron, but she does know him?
:dizzy:

Quote
And lol at the Megatron thing. XDDDD
:D

Nuns Part 4

Quote
"You shouldn't indulge them so much." Risa scolded lightly, tugging Ai on the arm as they went to sit by the rose bushes. Ai smiled, a tad of mischief in her eyes.

"That's why you're in charge and I'm not. I get to be as irresponsible as I want~" Risa huffed indignantly.

"Can't you believe you're actually older than me too..."
Gotta admit, given the situation, it IS somewhat odd to not see Aichan in the "leader" role. It's not that Risa can't handle it, it's just...unexpected. Granted, it IS cute the way they play off each other about it.

Quote
"Are you feeling alright? Your body's fine right?"

"I'm perfectly healthy, Risa." Ai said with some exasperation. She let the petal fly as her hand went back to her lap. "Honestly, I'm not an invalid, so stop treating me like one."

"I haven't been out of the grounds for months. No chance for summoning anything." Ai pouted like a child. "Stationary targets are so boring, and you don't let me go out to patrol..."
Uh-oh. That doesn't sound good at all. Is Aichan prone to more...after-effects of using her powers? Exactly what happened?

Quote
"I can't let you go out on your own, you can't seal the rifts without summoning your angel, and the last time you did that, you ended up in a coma for a week!" Risa's voice had gotten louder in her agitation, as it always did. Ai merely patted her best friend's hand.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH?!?!??
:OMG:

Quote
"I don't have to go out alone...you could always send me out with one of the others..."
Okay, firstly, going on alone when taking on a demon isn't the smartest move to begin with.  If things turn for the worse during the fight, and there's no backup, then you can undoubtedly just go ahead and kiss your ass goodbye.  Secondly, all self-confidence aside, if the fight that the Rokkies had in the first chapter here is any indication, these things can't be handled by just one avatar/angel.

Quote
"Do you think all the demon crossings are a result of human agency?" Ai changed the subject abruptly again, leaving Risa blinking rapidly at the shift.

"It's possible...but we haven't had any reports of a rise in occult activity. Then again, they could be doing it secretly, so it's hard to track." Risa frowned thoughtfully.
Hmmm...so the recent demon appearances might not be just a coincidence then?

Quote
"Let me go with them." Risa was about to object immediately when Ai raised one hand.

"You know my sensing abilities are the strongest here, even without Sandalphon summoned. Only Kamei-chan can come close with her Uriel manifested, and she's better off in combat in any case, especially with me unable to summon." Ai sounded very logical as she laid out her case.
So then, Aichan wants to be a proverbial divining rod? If so, and if Risa agrees, it could make the others' job of taking care of the demons a lot easier if they can get to potential hotspots and take care of them BEFORE they actually become hotspots.

Quote
"Ai-chan, I can't promise anything but..." Risa was cut off when Ai suddenly sprang to her feet.

"What is it?" Risa asked, then she froze as a wave of negative energy washed over her. It was so close! A scream rang out in the distance.

What the...Aichan? A nun gunslinger???

As cool as that is, is this going to hurt her the way that Risa was afraid of? Did Aichan have to use her powers to conjure up those guns, or is she always packing heat?

Ooooooooooookay, that...is reason for concern.

At least they now know for sure that the demonic activity is localized in their area/town for a reason.

Risa turned to look at Ai, who had sunk to her knees and was trembling like a leaf. Her breathing was shallow, as if she were about to have a fit again.

Oshit...this is what Risa was worried about, isn't it? It's not that using her powers physically drains/hurts Aichan, but rather it's something psychological???

Wow....just wow!  This just keeps getting better and better!  Chapter 4 was awesome!  The action was so good!  I think I had some thoughts on the beginning of the chapter but they have totally left my brain after the intense fight.  Ai chan's so cool with the guns...though I can't wait to see her use her real powers...I just know you're gonna make Ai chan even more cooler.

Poor poor Ai chan though.  So cool yet so tormented.  The perfect Estrea combination.  I'm so addicted!

This image had me laughing like crazy for some reason. I think I must be one of my moods. I still don't know how you come up with all these incredible ideas. They are so out of there but yet fit so perfectly together. After reading your fics I always wish I owned a production company so I can turn your writings into real shows that people can watch. I know so many will be enthralled by them. I guess I'm the only one who thinks the girls look like choir girls instead of nuns in those blue outfits? :D Oh and since they are nuns, there won't be any naughty scenes will there? Or are you gonna somehow find a way around that? :P

And presenting to you a crack one shot!

Performance Anxiety

Should I...or should I not...

A certain turtle girl lagged half a step behind her erstwhile girlfriend...or rather, she hoped that she assumed correctly in that the other girl had accepted. The problem was that one Takahashi Ai was often so ambiguous that it was difficult to tell whether or not she did say something.

Kamei Eri sighed quietly to herself as she continued to trail awkwardly behind Ai, her mind obviously elsewhere, as people had come to expect from her. That was a good thing sometimes. That way, she could be allowed to think about her current...problem...without being called on it too obviously.

Should she or shouldn't she? Eri pondered that with uncharacteristic seriousness. She was already 20, an adult, so she should be able to make such decisions. Staring at the object of her dilemma again, Eri screwed her courage up and reached forward...

...only to abruptly turn a corner and right into the restroom, calling out.

"Ah, Ai-chan, you go ahead, I'll just be in the bathroom!"

Ai turned around, smiling. "Ok, I'll go on to the practice room first, alright?"

"Un!" Eri nodded and disappeared back into the restroom, resting her back against the nearest wall and slumping down. She just managed to keep herself from banging her head against the nearest hard surface in sheer frustration, such was how she was feeling.

Stupid stupid stupid! Eri thought to herself. Why can't I just...

"Kame? Are you alright?" A curious head poked into the restroom.

"Gaki-san? Ah, I'm fine..." Eri looked up. Risa entered and bent down.

"Are you alright? Quarreled with Ai-chan? You seem a bit down..."

Eri pulled a face. Was it that obvious? Risa patted her on the shoulder.

"Just tell me, I won't tell anyone else about it."

Eri sighed again. "You're going to laugh at me, Gaki-san...I'm sure you will..."

Risa frowned. "I would never do that...come on Kame...just say it..."

Eri muttered something under her breath. Risa blinked and leaned closer.

"What?"

Eri repeated it again, slightly shame-faced. Risa's eyes went wide.

"USO!!!"

"Shhhh!!!" Eri hissed, grabbing hold of Risa's shoulders. Risa looked like she was somewhere between shock and breaking down into helpless laughter. Eri pouted.

"You said you wouldn't laugh!"

Risa took a deep breath and tried to calm down. Didn't work. She closed her eyes and slowly counted to ten. That helped a bit.

"So...you're telling me that, you have been going out with Ai-chan for over a month and you STILL haven't done it?" Risa's voice was slightly incredulous. Eri pouted again.

"It's not so easy! I never really know what she's thinking, or how she'll react...and it's kinda scary..." Eri muttered, looking down. Risa tried to look sympathetic, and almost looked convincing. She had a great deal of practice looking sympathetic. Part of the job.

"There there Kame, I'm sure Ai-chan won't reject it. You just have to reach out for it yourself. It's not so difficult!" Risa consoled the depressed turtle.

"But...but...it's scary!" Eri looked terrified. "What if she doesn't like it?"

Risa resisted the urge to laugh, trying to keep a serious face. Taking a deep breath, she continued.

"Just do it, Kame. You'll never know until you try. Come on, you're an adult now."

Eri bit her lip. "I guess...alright, I'll do my best, Gaki-san!"

Risa smiled and patted Eri on the back, helping the younger up to her feet.

"There, now go after her. I'll make sure the other members aren't around to interrupt either, so you'll be alright, ok?" Risa assured her in her best motherly tone, ushering Eri out of the restroom.

Eri turned and beamed broadly at Risa. "Thanks Gaki-san!" And ran off, in pursuit of one elusive leader.

I swear I'll finally be able to hold your hand, Ai-chan!

Super short piece done in like 20 minutes. The inspiration came out of almost nowhere. Kekeke. XD

I knew it! Muahaha! Eri wants to hold Ai-chan's hand~

I guessed that Eri wanted to hold her hand when I read the line:
Quote
Staring at the object of her dilemma again, Eri screwed her courage up and reached forward...

Such a cute story.
Eri's such an adorable fool worrying over holding her girlfriend's hand!
Good thing she has such a reliable sub-leader/secret lover....
 :huhuh
What? I can dream, can't I?

LOL you...

I knew where this was going after I read the first line. Could have been any pairing, but Ai and Eri! I feel spoiled. :D
Though I think Eri's insecurities is what makes it the most amusing/adorable. XD

First part of a mini series. Assuming I ever get round to finishing. hee.

============================================================

Outside Looking In

"Ai-chan, wait up!"

I'm walking behind the two of them. Way behind the two of them. After all, I'm just a kid. Just the mischievous little junior that alternates between being incredibly languid and incredibly hyper. And kids should only be seen and not heard, especially in adult situations.

Tanaka-san is just a little ahead of me. She is chattering to Kamei-san, who is also currently alternating between being hyper back, or looking around in a daze. I like Kamei-san. Everyone does. She's just lovable in that strange way of hers.

Michishige-san is on the other side of Kamei-san. They're rarely apart. Even more so than the other pair I was talking about. I like Michishige-san. She's fun to annoy. Most likely because she's the most patient, so trying to get a rise out of her is the most challenging. I like that.

"Mou, Ai-chan, you forgot this."

I look ahead again. Leader and sub-leader all the way in front. Niigaki-san is passing Takahashi-san something, and smoothing the messy strands of Leader's hair in that motherly way of hers. I can't see much from where I'm standing. Michishige-san and Kamei-san are kind of blocking my view. I shift to the side, behind Tanaka-san. Koharu changes places with me without complaint. She doesn't have to. She's tall enough to look over the other two senpai's shoulders.

We continue looking. It feels like spying, almost. I'm pretty sure our Rokkie senpais are doing the same thing. Well except maybe Kamei-san. She went back to zoning again. Should be back in a few minutes, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

From my new angle I can see Takahashi-san smile, almost cat-like and peaceful, eyes reduced to mere slits as she looked back at Niigaki-san. Almost childlike. Very cute. Sometimes it's hard to imagine that someone like Takahashi-san is the oldest and our leader. She doesn't look the part at all. We all still like her though.

They hold hands as they continue walking. Holding hands is pretty common. I glance at the Rokkie trio right before me. They're all but clinging to each other. Normal. Tanaka-san has one hand free in order to gesture as she talks. She does that a lot.

Back to the married couple right out front. Oops, did I say that out loud? Koharu looks at me. She's quiet now, but I catch the look in her eyes. Yeah, she caught that too. She's not quite as airheaded as she appears to be all the time. But of course, you'd have to be blind to not catch the sparkling aura around the blissful pair in front.

Takahashi-san is looking straight ahead. She almost always does. Probably mentally planning what to do later. Niigaki-san is the one initiating conversation, as usual. They walk in step, without faltering. It feels very comforting to watch. Their easy familiarity with each other is obvious in how they move around each other. And the sound of Takahashi-san's Fukui-ben is unmistakable as she replies, slapping Niigaki-san on the shoulder in a playful manner.

We stop at the lobby, ready to pile into the elevator once it clears out. Niigaki-san is standing in a way that makes sure that no one gets near Takahashi-san. The Rokkies cover the other side. We protect Takahashi-san a lot, whether or not she actually needs protecting. Same logic with Kamei-san. After all, are not Michishige-san and Tanaka-san both flanking her automatically like bodyguards? I sidle up next to Tanaka-san's other side. She gives me a look. I smile and shrug. She knows that I know that she doesn't like being left vulnerable either. We don't need to talk about it. I just cover for her before she has to say anything. Easier on both of us that way.

The elevator is clear. We pile in, a giggling gaggle of female idols. Typical. Niigaki-san stumbles a little, but is caught by Takahashi-san who props her up. We are all pressed close to each other in the elevator. I suppose we could have taken separate lifts. But where's the love in that?

I am squashed between Junjun and Koharu. Linlin is next to me, looking similarly squashed. We exchange a look, then glance at the two giants trapping us. Linlin's rubber face makes an appropriately exaggerated expression. I laugh. Wouldn't you?

Koharu shifts, allowing me a splinter of vision to the pair I have been observing since earlier. I wonder if she does it on purpose. I might never know, unless I ask. But where's the fun in that?

Everyone is pressed against each other. So is our dear leader and sub-leader. Except that no one really needs to be pressed that close, even under such circumstances. Their foreheads were touching, a tender gaze passing between them. Their fingers are still locked together. This time, Takahashi-san is the one that smooths out Niigaki-san's fringe, and tucks the stray hair behind her sub-leader's ear. I look away. It seemed a little rude to keep staring at that for some reason.

We reach our floor. I get out with some obvious relief. Behind me, Tanaka-san repeats an old joke regarding her bad English skills. The seniors roar with laughter. Kamei-san parrots it.

"People people people~ Party Party Party~"

I admit, that was cute. Niigaki-san shoots out an automatic retort at Kamei-san. I guess the PPP acronym was just a little too obvious to not be used here. Good job, sub-leader.

It's almost time to get down to work. As usual, Takahashi-san detaches herself from Niigaki-san, shifts into work mode, and converses seriously with the staff. Niigaki-san also falls back into her role of watching the rest of us, while listening to what our manager has to say about today's schedule. They really complement each other perfectly.

"They're perfect together, aren't they?"

It is Michishige-san. Rare moment that Kamei-san isn't right next to her. Oh wait, there she is. We are sitting in a semi-circle, in case I forgot to mention. Koharu's on my other side.

I don't have to ask who she is referring to. It is the most obvious thing there is. And I know that Michishige-san feels very attached to them. We all are, but Michishige-san most of all. I think she holds them in her ideal image of the perfect love. She's terribly sentimental sometimes.

"I don't know if I can believe in love anymore if something like that breaks up."

I know. They've been together forever. All but married. They've had their arguments and their disputes. But they always come back to each other. They do that because they love each other.

That's what I believe. That's what everyone here believes. The truth is right out there in plain sight, witnessing to all who care to see. We don't need to talk about it, it just is.

But you know, I'm just a kid. What does a kid know? Adult situations. Can't figure them out.

I turn back to Koharu and start talking. The moment passes, as if it had never been. We go back to normal. Leader and sub-leader continue sparkling in that undefined way they've always had. And always will.

Right?
