Australian crocodile kept in prison

Police in northern Australia kept a 2.4m (7ft 9in) saltwater crocodile in a cell overnight after it menaced local fishermen.
Officials in Nhulunbuy were left with "no other option" after capturing the crocodile late in the evening, Senior Constable Wade Marshall said.
He told the BBC News website that police had placed the reptile an unused cell in the town's police station.
In the morning, the male crocodile was taken to a nearby crocodile farm.
Jeez no wonder there's overcrowding in prisons. They'd arrest anybody nowadays! I imagine it would be quite effective though. If I was being jailed and saw a crocodile in a cell, I would not want to go back there
But what I don't get is why did they have to arrest it? I mean it was 30m from the ramp anyway, and it didn't sound like it was troubling the boat at the time, so why did the police feel there was an obligation? Attacking any potential prey, in it's eyes, is only part of his nature anyway.
