In one of those janken tournament vids, Mariko seemed really laid back when she lost. She was genuinely happy for Sumire.
This makes me wonder how she views her role in AKB48. She obviously enjoys it a lot, but she doesn't seem to care a lot about making senbatsu and stuff. Maybe she thinks she had a good run and it's time to let the newbs take over?
If she graduates, I think she'll go the MaiMai route, except maybe less TV and more modeling. I highly doubt she'll move to SDN.
I reckon Mariko knows she's popular enough that it probably doesn't matter in the long run.

She really took it well, almost seemed more happy for her oponent than annoyed she'd lost!
I guess, to her, she's in a successful idol group- and that's good enough for her! Not to mention she's been voted as one of the most popular members~
Also, I have a feeling that each member would of been talked to about the 19th single... told that they should not react badly as it is one single- I mean it may boost popularity of the girls who got into the senbatsu for the first time- but at the end of the day the Mariko will still be liked and in the main song again!

She's one of the idols who when I see stunning photos or film of them- it makes me want short hair again!
