It wasn't until I saw AKB48 documentary I truly understood how important Takamina's role in AKB48 is. Her role as leader is real and definitely not symbolic. She tells the other to focus, she guides them, cares for them and whatnot. A group as big as AKB48 needs someone like her and I'm glad she's able to fulfill this role. I guess she became the leader through a natural process, since she was there since the beginning and was probably the most suitable person for it.
Unlike most people, I'm not a big fan of her vocals. They're a bit too nasal for me most of the time, but whatever. It's another timbre that makes the AKB48 sound complete.
Her parts in variety shows are similar to how I view Miichan. The whole suberi thing feels a bit forced at times. I mean, she doesn't fail every joke. She is funny! But the way they edit and set up the show it make it seem like she's not funny at all. It's a strange gimmick that I don't really get. I do like her ribbon and banana parker routine during the fashion shows and Shoujiki Shougi wouldn't be the same without her.
I have a lot of respect for Takamina and the difficult job she has the do. I hope her emotions don't get the best of her and that she can relax when she needs to.
