Ouch. This is will just increase the Japanese for IP-spoofers more than it will stop file-sharing though.

Most non-Japanese people will probably be worried/scared that this might mean that they won't have access to the Japanese media they/we all love to DL.

I just read the story on http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/03/15/japanese-isps-to-ban-file-sharers/
Was gonna post it but then saw this thread.

What if someone uploaded a passworded rar file?  The Japanese isp's wouldn't know what was in it so wouldn't know if it breached copyright or not.

Worst-case scenario, they block/forbid it from being shared because they're unable to verify it (at least, that's what I would do if I were in their shoes).

Since the concern is over 'file-sharing software', I suspect they're looking for at BitTorrent, and programs like Kazaa and Limewire that let users directly share files.

I routinely encrypt client's files, and so do most doctors/lawyers/accountants or anyone else who deals with sensitive information. I don't think a ban on password protected files would work.

once the ISP find out that they lost over half their customers they'll reconsider.

even if they won't, pirates will ALWAYS find a way around it   :cool1:

yeah.. just rename it, split the files unto some parts, and then upload it at international servers (RS/MU).

Internet is an effective media to gain popularity, so why do they bother it?
