“Yoshiko, your special assistant is here…” Ayaka called to Hitomi.
“Okay, thanks. Call Mai. She’s the one who needs special assistance here,” Hitomi was nowhere to be seen but her voice seemed to come from behind some tall shelves. Rika was disappointed that she didn’t see Hitomi right away but she knew she had to be patient. Hitomi was a very busy person after all.
Ayaka started walking to the door “Okay…” Looking back at Rika who was mesmerized by Hitomi’s office, “I’ll see you later, okay, Rika-chan?” Rika was so preoccupied by the new environment that she just nodded without looking at Ayaka.
“You’re so kawaii…” Ayaka giggled as she walked out the office double doors.
Rika looked around the beautiful office, which was minimalist in design. It had a wonderful view of Makati. She imagined how the view would look like at nighttime. That would be so romantic. She walked back to a small couch close to the big desk. She sat down and waited for Hitomi.
The doors swung open as a girl who looked like the one in the pictures with Ayaka and Hitomi burst into the room. “YOSHIKO!!! WHERE IS SHE???”
Mai bursting into the room like that shocked Rika, to say the least, but the latter maintained her composure. Hitomi finally emerged from the shelves and walked to Mai.
“Calm down, Mai, she’s right here…” Hitomi pointed to where Rika was sitting. Just seeing Rika for the first time since leaving the house, made Hitomi smile but seeing Rika in corporate attire made her heart skip a beat. Why didn’t I take her to the office before? Hitomi wanted to slap herself. Her pointing arm just fell to her side.
It’s good that Mai was so loud that Rika did not notice Hitomi in a moment like this.
Mai ran to where Rika sat and examined her closely. “Oh my… She is kawaii indeed… Ayaka wasn’t lying… Yoshiko, you are so lucky to have a super kawaii girlf— ITAI!“ Hitomi stepped on her toe. “— girl… staying with you at home. She must have been filling your flat with pure kawaiiness …”
Rika just had a puzzled look on her face as she had no idea of what was going on. She stole glances at Hitomi who looked so… so… so… much like an executive. She felt her cheeks getting warmer as Hitomi placed a hand on her shoulder. “Rika, this is Satoda Mai and Mai, this is Ishikawa Rika”
Rika was surprised. She knows my family name? I haven’t even told her yet…
Mai suddenly took both of Rika’s hands in her own. “Nice to meet you, Ishikawa Rika-chan!!!… Ayaka’s told me all about you… I was so excited to finally meet you in person… Thank you so much for looking after our Yoshiko these past few days. I know she must be a headache at times but we love her…”
Rika laughed. It seemed that Hitomi is always the butt of their jokes. Mai was pleased that Rika found her amusing. Hitomi just wanted to melt away into a puddle. With her friends talking about her like that to Rika, she didn’t want know what Rika thought of her now. Or did she?
A blushing Hitomi turned from them slightly annoyed. “Anyway, back to business. Mai, let us not waste Rika’s time. I will see you both once you are through. We might have to pull in an over time. I had the papers sent to your office already.”
“Okay, President Yoshizawa Yoshiko… I promise I won’t exhaust her…” Mai teased Hitomi. “Come along now, Rika-chan… … … You’re so kawaii…” Mai walked ahead and Rika followed her to the office.
