Religious Nutcase Pharmacist Threaten Women's Health

It is amazing that we have licensed professional pharmacist that think that their personal religious beliefs are more important than a doctor's prescription! It is my belief that any pharmacist that decides he cannot fill a legal prescription should find another line of work. In fact he should lose his license and the drug store should be subjected to a civil lawsuit. A few million dollar damage verdicts should put a stop to this non sense fast. Follow this logic closely:

Quote from: quote
"The United States was founded on the idea that people act on their conscience -- that they have a sense of right and wrong and do what they think is right and moral," said Tom Brejcha, president and chief counsel at the Thomas More Society, a Chicago public-interest law firm that is defending a pharmacist who was fined and reprimanded for refusing to fill prescriptions for birth control pills. "Every pharmacist has the right to do the same thing," Brejcha said.

Now using that SAME religious nutcase logic, apply it here:

A storm knocks down a powerline which feeds an adult bookstore. The lineman says "as a Christian I cannot restore service here. Sorry."

A Muslim calls 911 because her husband has a heart attack. The EMT arrives and says "I am sorry but I cannot help or transport your husband because I am a Christian and Muslims don't believe in Jesus".

A Catholic daycare centre loses phone service. The telephone man shows up and says "mam, I am sorry but because this is a Catholic centre and I am a strict Christian, I cannot fix the phones here"

A Jewish Synagogue catches on fire and the firemen refuse to answer the alarm because they are Chirstians and think that the Jews killed Jesus.

Do anyone else agree with me why religion does not belong in the workplace?

I worship Rika's ass but pretty much keep it to myself in the office.

As they say, "it's frowned upon."

Oh, this is a touchy one. What gets me is how some "extremist Christians" think sometimes and I say this as a Christian myself. I was raised to believe that as a Christian, you are supposed to love and care for everybody regardless of who they are because that is what Jesus did. If you are a Christian, than you believe that Jesus died for your sins, right? Well, He died for everyone else's too, right? There's a level playing field there. Also, the Bible teaches about humility, so those Christians who have such a holier-than-thou attitude (not that I never have) and decide to let people die in my opinion are extremists and not the kind the Bible talks about.

Why can't the person just go to another pharmacist?

Yep, the person should do their job or be fired.  There's been similar stories like this in the UK.

There's so many things done in the name of religion.  So many different religions all have their God, but different rules.  All these religions have been created by man to control people.  All this stuff being done in His name.  I bet God hates religion.
Sig gone. Tinypic is no more.

I agree with Asmo here, why can't she just go somewhere else?

It's the guy's store, if he thinks something is wrong why should he do it?
If we're going with analogies here, that's like making a vegetarian cook you a steak.

There should be plenty of drugstores already that have that kind of stuff available already anyways.

I'm agnostic and not religious at all and have spent lots of time questioning others religious practices, but I'm close with lots of strongly religious people, some who live in the same home, so I can understand why people would do something like this.

They do provide medication for other ailments, which imo is much more important than a condom or birth control. You still have a choice, they're not forcing you to buy stuff from them.

I agree with Asmo and SITS- and if I were that lady, I'd be a marathon away by now.

However, in terms of thinking about it jubilantly; A pharmacy is licensed by the state as are the people that work in it. Rules apply for the good of the public and medical care is not the same as, let's say, gambling. And on that particular note, I think any casino that bars somebody that has not broken the rules should lose its license too. There is no such thing as a "private business" unless they are not open to the public in general (such as a private club).

And even if it is in fact a private business; Private businesses cannot discriminate in violation of federal or state laws and there are penalties for those who do.

If a business is open to the public, it should have to serve all people that can afford its services and obey its rules. A cafe might hang out a sign that says "we reserve the right to refuse service" but they don't without a reason for doing so.
