Chapter 1 - First signs„That was good, ne?“ Reina asked the other girls, as they left the ramen shop.
„Yeah, it was... how did you know about that?“ Sayumi asked.
„Well... I'm reading magazines and the newspaper... something you should do, too.“
„What do you mean by that? I'm reading every day.“
„Letters from your fans, who are telling you how cute you are doesn't count, Sayu.“
„They're not always telling me that I'm cute... they say I'm sexy too.“
„I think my stomach is going to flip...“
„You...“
„Mou, not again... WOULD YOU PLEASE STOP?“, Eri interrupted the two bickering girls.
Both, Reina and Sayumi fell silent instantly.
„That you two always have to fight... it's nerve-wrecking, you know...“
„Gomen nasai“, the other Rokkies replied.
„Could we go back to the hotel now without any other incidents?“
„Ha~i.“
„Great... then let's go.“
***
Eri closed the door to her room, leaning against the wood sighing deeply. Luckily, Sayumi and Reina didn't start another fight while they walked back to the hotel. As much as Eri enjoyed to be with them, she was still happy to get some private time. Especially when spending time with Sayu and Reina was getting very straining, just like a couple of hours before. Stretching, she walked over to the bed, letting herself fall back onto the soft mattress. Staring up at the ceiling, Eri felt tiredness taking her over and without knowing it, she fell asleep.
A soft knock on her door caused Eri to wake up. Rubbing her eyes sleepily, she got up from the bed, making her way to the door.
„Reina?“
„Konban wa...“
„What are you doing here?“
„I wanted to talk to you.“
„At this time?“
„I won't steal too much of your time, so... can we talk?“
Thinking about it for a brief moment, the older girl stepped aside.
„Come in.“
„Thanks.“
Eri closed the door and followed her friend to the bed, where both of them sat down.
„So... what is it?“
„I was thinking about today...“
„Okay...“
„And... I wanted to apologize...“
„For what?“
„For fighting with Sayu... and that I kept teasing her.“
„Oh, Reina...“, Eri said with a smile, „it's okay.“
„No, it's not... I felt so bad for messing up one of those rare times, where we are able to do what we want... this thought had been bothering me since we came back here.“
Staring onto her hands that were resting on her knees, Reina was getting slightly uncomfortable with each passing minute of silence. She didn't know what to think about this situation. Carefully she risked a glance at Eri.
„What? “, the yankee asked confused as she saw her friends lips curving into a grin.
„It's just... you look so cute, sitting there like a little school girl that is about to tell her mom that she broke her expensive china.“
„Eh, uso~“
„If I tell you so.“
Looking at each other, both girls bursted out into laughter. The tension that had been lingering in the room eased and was soon blown away with their laughs.
***
Sitting in the lobby of the hotel, Reina waited for Eri to show up. She had invited her to have breakfast in a cafe. Glancing over at the clock that was hanging on the wall next to the reception, the yankee sighed as she realized that Eri was already fifteen minutes too late. Her tardiness would be probably something the oldest Rokkie would never get rid of.
Knocking on the door, Reina waited for an answer. She had decided to look for Eri, since the yankee had been growing impatient. After the girl didn't get a reply from the inside of the room, she knocked again before she opened the door and stepped in.
„Eri?“
Reina's eyes wandered over to the bed, where she could see Eri's head poking out from underneath the blanket. Smiling, the younger Rokkie shook her head as she walked over.
„Oi, Eri. Get up sleepy head, you're late already.“
„Sorry...“, Eri replied her voice sounded bleary.
„Hey, you're awake... why didn't you answer me when I knocked?“
„I did.“
„Haven't heard anything. Now get up, I'm starving.“
„I'm sorry, Reina... but we have to put that off to some other time.“
„Are you okay?“
„I... don't feel well.“ A cough that sounded more like a barking dog followed her answer.
Reina froze, as she placed her hand onto Eri's forehead.
***
Pounding with her fist against the door of Ai's room, Reina hoped the leader would open up as soon as possible.
„Ha~i... I'm coming.“
The yankee almost hitted Ai as she suddenly opened the door. Luckily Ai had been jerking her head back reflexively to prevent herself from a punch.
„Ai-chan, we need a doctor!“
„What?“
„Eri... she has a high temperature!“
„WHAT??“
„What part of
Eri has a high temperature did you not get?“, Reina snapped.
Ai ignored Reina's sarcastic remark, she was sure that it was only because the yankee panicked.
„First of all calm down, Reina-chan. Get a bowl of cold water and I'm gonna call the doctor. Try to make the temperature go down.“
„Okay.“
„And, Reina-chan...“
„Yes?“
„Don't worry.“
***
Sitting next to Eri's bed, Reina gently dabbed her friends forehead and cheeks with a cloth that she had laid into a bowl with water and ice cubes before. The older girl was asleep, her breathing heavy from the fever. Since the doctor left, there hadn't been a single second in that Reina wasn't on Eri's side.
Dipping the cloth into the water, Reina wringed out the cloth before she folded it and placed it onto Eri's forehead.
„Reina?“
„I'm here... did I wake you?“
„No...“
„How do you feel?“
„Like a truck knocked me over“, Eri replied making attempts to sit up.
„Hey, hey... slowly. Don't move too fast“, the yankee said, helping Eri to get into a sitting position.
Leaning her head back against the wall, the older girl closed her eyes. Even though she had been sleeping a few hours, she felt totally exhausted like she had been working forty-eight hours at a stretch. A soft rustling sound made Eri open her eyes.
„What are you doing?“, the nineteen-year-old Rokkie asked, as she watched Reina roaming through her travelling-bag.
„I'm looking for a pyjama.“
„Nande?“
„Because the one you're wearing right now is drenched with sweat, you have to change it.“
„Sou ka... well it's on the left bottom side.“
„Ah, found it“, Reina announced, before she walked back to the bed looking down at her friend, holding a hand out.
„What?“
„Do you think your pyjama dresses itself up on you? Get up and change.“
„Right here?“
„Right here.“
„But...“
Eri's ears started to burn as she felt another wave of heat rushing through her body, but this time not from the fever. The thought of Reina staying in the room while she changed caused her to get a little bit embarrassed and to Eri's own surprise nervous even.
„I-I'm going t-to the bathroom“, Eri stammered.
„Geez, Eri. It's not like you've got something that I don't have. We're both girls. And I don't want you to strain yourself.“
„It's just the way to the bathroom.“
„Yeah, but if you're breaking down behind the closed door, what am I supposed to do then?“
„Open the door?“
„And if you're lying right in front of the door? Come on, what's the big deal? I've already seen you in a bikini.“
Taking Eri's hand, the younger girl pulled her out of the bed.
„Damn, Eri... you're hot.“
„W-WHAT??“
„Your skin.“
„Oh...“
Raising an eyebrow, Reina looked at Eri with a confused expression.
„What were you thinking I was talking about?“
„N-nothing...“
„Now put your other pyjama on, okay?“
„H-hai...“
Slowly, Eri started to unbutton her shirt making sure to keep her back turned to Reina as her thoughts raced through her head.
What is this strange feeling? Why am I embarrassed to take my clothes off in front of... a friend? Reina's right, she saw me in a bikini for so many times... not to talk about the times in the dressing room... so why do I feel this way now? And... what's up with that nervousness?***
Eri woke up in the middle of the night, as a coughing fit took her over. Sitting up, the girl grabbed the bottle of water that Reina had been getting for her earlier. The liquid was easing her dry throat as she took a few sips of it.
Letting her eyes wander through the dark room, something on the other bed caught Eri's attention. Switching on the small lamp that stood on her bedside table, the Rokkie blinked a few times as she recognized Reina lying on the bed sound asleep. Getting up slowly, Eri made her way over to the bed. Carefully, Eri tucked Reina into the blanket before she sat down on the edge of the bed, brushing away a strand of hair from Reina's face.
Oh, Reina... you're always there for me when I need you...A smile formed on Eri's lips.
You never let me down. Even now you're with me... I already felt much better today with the knowledge... that you're by my side. I felt so safe and secure with you near me.Gently, the older Rokkie ran her hand over Reina's cheek. The yankee seemed to react to the touch, her lips curved into a smile.
Kya~a... Oh god, she looks so cute... wait... what are you thinking, Eri? This is Reina... and it's just a smile... a simple, innocent smile of a friend...Eri glanced down at Reina once again.
But why... is that smile causing... my heart to beat faster? To be continued...
