#6.  20 Dreams

Eri rolled over on her bed, looking at the glaringly bright numbers of her alarm clock.  Only five minutes remained until the clock struck midnight – until she became an adult.

*achoo*

What the heck!?

“…Aru? Aru, you there boy?” she called.

Something tells me it wasn't the dog.

Oi,

Happy birthday, kid.  The big twenty, you’re officially an adult.  Damn, you make me feel old now.

Sadly, that's how I often feel now with many of the classes I work with. I mean, how old am I that the kids in school these days DON'T know who MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice are???

I’ll have to take you out for a drink sometime…

Very true. Just because one turns a certain age doesn't mean that they suddenly need to completely change who they are. 

and don’t stop the craziness – it’s what makes you so damn loveable sometimes.  You should do another one of those nutso sales dances in celebration.  I’m waiting to see it. Hahaha…

Well, it's Eri's own fault for having such a messy room. It made it easy for the others to get hiding places.  LOVED how you had Aichan saying "bejeebers".

“But where is Kamei-san?”

“She was on top of me a minute ago…”

Have I mentioned how I love double-entendres?

“Kame’s still weird…” Risa teased, offering her younger friend a hand. Eri shook her head, signaling that she was fine. Slowly, she wiggled herself out of the small space and sat face to face with her fellow adult group members.

“Tell me, what are you all doing here? I was gonna go to sleep after getting my first mail –”

“We’re gonna take you drinking of course!” Risa laughed.

“At midnight!” Junjun joined in.

“Don’t look at me, I’m just the chaperone.” Ai shrugged.  The other two turned their heads and gaped at their leader. “Nah, I’m just kidding. C’mon Kameko, it won’t kill.”

HA! They beat Yuko to the proverbial punch!
 

*DRUNK ERI*

Even like this there's a weird cuteness about her.

Ai nodded. “Junjun and I have had more experience with this stuff, since she was able to drink since she was eighteen…”

“Yup!” Junjun smiled, raising her glass.

Junjun =

“Yosh… There we go.” Risa muttered, laying Eri down on her bed.  “You’re probably not going to wake up until tomorrow, hm?”

“Nah…I don’t think I’ll wake up for a week…” Eri replied, rolling over. The (now) slightly more sober girl placed an arm on her forehead and groaned loudly. “What the hell did I drink again? Ugh…”

“Kame, watch your mouth!”

First drunk experience invariably leads to the first hangover experience.

Risa might want to find a bucket of something to keep by Eri's bed.

“Don’t go, Gaki-san.” Eri begged. “I…”

“Kame?” Risa retracted her steps and carefully sat down on the bed next to Eri. “What’s wrong?”

“What…am I going to be like – if I change?  Would I still be me?  Or…”

“Ah…is that all that you’re worried about?” Risa gently patted Eri’s head and gave reassuringly rubbed her shoulder.  “Kame, I know you think that being twenty is super important.  It’s the official age of adulthood, and I don’t blame you one bit for being worried.  But if you really want to know what I think… I think that you’ll always be who you are.  It doesn’t matter if you change just a little bit – you’ll always be my Pokepokepuu. Right?”

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...

The elder girl watched carefully as Eri’s breathing became calm and regulated – a sign that she had fallen asleep.  She looked over her shoulder at the bright digital clock behind her.  It was much too late to call a taxi and go home.  Looking over at Eri once again, she sighed and carefully pushed the sleeping girl further inside the bed.  Risa picked up a pillow next to the bed and settled herself in – she’d have to spend the night.

Risa turned herself around so that she was facing Eri.

Normally I'd be all WOOT at this, but given the circumstances (and Eri's boozing noob-ness), are we sure it's such a good idea for Risa to be scooching over next to her like this?

A smile crept its way into Risa’s face as she chuckled at her friend’s expression.  She pulled the resting girl into a hug and pressed her lips to Eri’s exposed forehead.

Sweet dreams, Kame.

I got kicked off BUT, I'm BACK!!  I had too. After reading such an awesome Eri Bday fic and deriving so much joy and amusement, I had to come back and comment even if something happened. Vague? Yeah but let's keep it that way.

At first I was so worried that this was that angsty fic. I mean I like those but not on the turtle's birthday right? I'm glad this turned out to be an oh-so-adorable story. I'm over the moon that it's GakiKame centric. Me love the turtle and bean duo Not to mention how cute they were in it. Kinda disappointed that the kiss didn't become something more but I'll take what I can get

AHHHHH, too much sweetness in the morning!!!! Eri's so cute trying to stay up, even though we all know she's the one who sleeps all the time. Fuckin hilarious, everyone hiding in her room. Drunk Eri is even cuter, I tell you. But I do feel bad for everyone else having to deal with her like that!!! But the ending was so so so so so so touching.

And Eri's worry for not changing, awwww <3 Contrary to what Hamminz said, I actually prefered that they didn't kiss 'cause that would be out of the left field for an innocent fic like this xDDD The message the story gives didn't need a kiss~ xDDD

In my hands I held a vase full of white roses.  They’re for you, you know?  It’s been a while, but it’ll be nice to see you again.  I can almost hear your voice.

Oh, I don't know if I like where this sounds like it's going.

I was so oblivious when I picked up the receiver.  The voice I heard on the line wasn’t you, and yet your name immediately worked its way into the discussion.  My eyes widened and my breath shortened.  Even now, I can still feel the pain and how my heart wrenched as the deep voice of the officer fed me the details.

I felt nothing as I looked downwards at the glass in my hand again.  The shard wasn’t the same; it was stained.  Its edge was lined with a dark red liquid.
