Ooooh yay~ an update!

I have to agree with the others. This is damn sad chapter

Quote
"Why don't we hook up? I think we would make quite a pair."
Actually that would a GREAT idea, though I don't think that would happen in this fic :P

So Reina gonna go after Risa full on now that she knows she isn't dating the bunny? Lets see how the proud yankii will apologise to the bean and redeem herself. Oh make it a sexy scene at that  TanaGaki raburabu

Jun is confessing? Gawd Girl! Why do you leave us hanging? Update soon! :w00t:

@kuro-san: Thanks for the encouragement. I’ll try but it’s hard.

@rnd: Give me ideas? Cuz I’m running out of them.

@Sticky: I didn’t blame you at all? And I almost called you Ame again but I remembered the reason not to. Even if it’s not a best friend it’s possible for that line to be blurry too.

@BS: Me? Slap you? Nah, I can’t slap anyone but myself.

@kR: I think that phone should be happy that it gets touched by Reina so much. How did you guess it was Sayu?

@Aisacchan: Did you like any of the other stories? I hope so though I’m not a good writer.

@Swtme03: Gaki was so darn hawt wearing fedoras. Lol, thanks for your long and very nice comment. Made me really happy.

@Hashire-san: Gaki still lives so I think I’m kinda nice to her?

@oddball: No one knows yet. I’ll drop a hint here. Lin Lin might not be entirely correct in her guess.

@Sukoshi-chan: Awww shucks, you thought of me? Really? *blushes* Lol, sorry I was being lame. I thought nattou was fermented? So it’s not fresh anyway? You were right about Sayu. Since you are so great at fortune-telling, maybe you can help me out with the crap in my life?

MGR 18

@rnd: So much pain eh? It can’t compare to the pain inside of me  Just kidding…though that wasn’t funny at all huh? Damn my lousy humor skills.

@kuro-san: Thanks for still reading. I wasn’t expecting anyone to wanna read this again. A big gomen for owing you so many comments. I wasn’t in the commenting mood that period. But I think I’m getting back into it so I’ll be reading replying in your threads when I can :)

@Swtme03: You praise me too much. I’m not even half as good as what you make me out to be. Thanks though, it means a lot

@BS: Sexy TanaGaki? Risa doesn’t really look like the kind who would initiate a hawt sexy scene :P We’ll have to count on Reina then.

Merry Go Round
Chapter 19

Tilting my head sideways to glance at you, I observed how silent you were as you stared out the window of the taxi we were in. I had suggested we spend our free day together at Disneyland and you didn't decline the offer. Although I had started on our trip with buoyant feelings of jubilation, the happiness I had felt quickly disappeared when I began to sense your less than enthusiastic attitude. You had not spoken more than ten lines from the moment we woke up this morning and I had hoped that it was because you were tired out from last night's activity. Yet in the back of my mind, I knew this was not really the case.

I have you physically here with me, but your heart isn’t.

I could feel the ends of my eyes beginning to grow moist as my vision blurred from the impending tears. Squeezing my eyes shut, I refused to allow these tears of self-pity to fall. Kamei Eri is a strong girl and if I could overcome my low self-esteem to become a member of Morning Musume, I believe that I could one day bypass the numerous barriers surrounding your heart.

As our cab headed towards your apartment from the amusement park, the overcast sky finally opened up and the rain began to fall in torrent like drops. I could hear the thunderous noise of the water hitting onto the roof of the vehicle we were in, mimicking the wave of emotions exploding within my frail frame. Thoroughly caught up in my own thoughts, I was only jolted out of my reverie when your panic filled voice resonated throughout the enclosed space.

"Stop the car!"

Upon hearing the command barked out in such an agitated manner, the driver instantly obeyed and slammed on the brakes, bringing the small taxi to a dead stop. In the following second, you threw open the door and jumped out, sprinting like mad into the center of the storm.

"AI-CHAN!"

I yelled into the distance, completely helpless, as your shadowy figure grew tinier and further away from me. I didn't know why you didn’t turn back despite my desperate calls. Didn’t you hear my screams above the howling of the winds? Or was I that insignificant as compared to the person you were running towards.

Despite wishing that the cause of your bizarre actions were completely justifiable, I could no longer pretend that you truly loved me. Glancing down at my open palms that were resting on my lap, I retracted my fingers, clenching my hands into tight fists.

Even when our hands were linked, I couldn't feel your love for me.

-----

My pace slowed down as I trotted to a jog. Twisting my head in various directions, I scanned my surroundings frantically for the silhouette of the person I was seeking. It was only for a mere second when I caught a glimpse of your drenched form flashing past the window but I knew it was you. I would never mistake you for anyone else.

As I widened the area of my search, a million questions ran through my mind. Why were you in the mist of a downpour without an umbrella? Why were you walking alone in the direction away from the park near your home? Have you recovered from your injuries from the previous day and was there something bothering you?

Please let me find you Gaki-san.

I muttered under my breath, praying sincerely that god would allow me to chance upon the person I wanted so much to see.

I just want to make sure you are okay.

"Ai-chan!"

My first thought was of the person who had been beside me for years, the one blessed with kind brown eyes and who had the most brilliant smile I had ever seen. Twirling around immediately upon hearing my name, a huge smile lit up on my face but disappeared just as quickly when I focused on the owner of a blue umbrella.

"Eri..."

My girlfriend strolled up to me, one hand supporting the brolly while the other clutched at the loose ends of her jacket. Strands of her hair stuck to her face and there were several dark patches staining her attire, no doubt the work of the torrential rain beating sideways beyond the coverage of her shelter.

"What are you doing here? Get back into the cab!"

I grabbed onto her elbows, steering her in the direction where I had come from, assuming that the taxi would still be waiting. What I didn't expect was Eri to tug on my wrist, shaking her head and forcing a smile.

"The taxi already left. It's okay Ai-chan, I'll accompany you to look for Gaki-san."

Her words made my breathe catch in my throat and I stared at her in shock, unable to say anything in response.

"Eri..."

Pulling her in for a hug, I wrapped my arms around her shivering torso. Had you known all along? That I couldn't love you like I should. But you still agreed to each and every one of my demands, even when you were hurt in the near fatal accident. You never once refused my advances nor told me that you weren't in the mood.

"Why must you treat me so well. I don't deserve it."

"I love you Ai-chan. There's no right or wrong when it comes to love. I'll keep on giving you my all, even if you can't return any of it."

-----

I peeled off my soaked outer coat and allowed it to fall to the floor with a splat. Vaguely aware that I had to remove my shoes, I kicked them away, not caring where they flew. Trudging wearily towards the bathroom, I leaned heavily on the sink and brought my gaze up to the mirror positioned above. The image of a pale female with whitish lips and reddish eyes stared unblinkingly back at me and it was clear that I was indeed in a sorry state.

"Stop thinking about her! She doesn't belong to you, she doesn't even like you!"

I screamed at the image of myself, pounding my fists against the ceramic surface. Exerting every ounce of my strength in the hope that I would be able to find release through this method, I abused my limbs until they were painfully sore.

"You can't compare to any of those people going after her and you definitely can't compare to Kame!"

The throbbing from my hands was momentarily forgotten when a stinging pain stabbed through my right chest and I slumped over from the pain, sucking in a sharp breathe of air in the process. Shifting one hand over the aching area to grip at the garment I was wearing, I choked back my sobs, attempting to ease the ache but failing miserably.

This routine has become a daily affair for me recently and I didn't know if the agony was caused by the hurt I felt whenever I thought about you or was it due to something else. Frankly at this point in my life, nothing else seemed to matter much for you were of utmost priority to me. It might not be a bad thing if the chest pain, the blacking out or white spots in my vision turned out to be something serious. Maybe if I died, I wouldn't be so tortured by these feelings of anguish whenever you appeared in my thoughts. Coming to this conclusion was the reason I decided against visiting the hospital earlier.

Sometimes when I’m outside, my thoughts drift to you and I cry because I can’t do anything about it. I’m reminded of how I can’t have you to myself, or that I can’t do a thing to soothe your pain and sorrow. I’ve noticed that you seem troubled but I didn’t dare show my concern. What would Kame think? And most importantly, who am I to you to poke my nose into your business.

“You are a complete idiot to be crying for her when she doesn't know how you feel."

Despite scolding myself for my stupidity, I cried harder when a fresh round of tears sprung to my eyes, streaming down my cheeks. I hate myself for weeping over you so often. It’s takes so little to make me tear whenever it’s something involving you.

Pushing myself up to meet the mirror once again, I swallowed back my tears and the urge of wanting to see you, of wanting to hold you every time we see each other. I absolutely detest myself, despising my weakness and failure as a person in general.

"YOU'RE PATHETIC!"

Smashing my curled fist into the glass, I felt the pieces shatter and a single shard graze past my face. In the broken reflection of the polished surface, a thin red line emerged and blood flowed freely from the center of the cracked glass.

I wish for the day I no longer feel so strongly for you.

-----

*Ding dong*

*Knocking*

"Hello? Gaki-san!"

"Gaki-san are you there?"

A certain yankii was standing outside her senpai's home, knocking rather loudly as she waited for someone, anyone, to acknowledge her presence. She was positive she had heard the ringing sound of Risa's cellphone from within the apartment when she called her earlier. That would mean that the sub-leader was home, right? Then why was it that the older girl didn't answer the door?

Not understanding the events that were taking place before her at that very instant, Reina sighed and backed away from the still shut entry.

"Perhaps Reina heard wrongly."

Downstairs of the condominium complex, the self-proclaimed leader of High-King walked away from the structure, turning back every now and then to see if she could catch sight of Risa who might have left her cell phone at home while taking a short trip to the nearby convenience store. Sadly, her hopes were dashed when none of the figures approaching took the shape of the bean.

However, the familiar view of another person she was acquainted with appeared in the distance and Reina gasped in surprise when the person ran up to her.

"Tanaka-san, what are you doing here?"

"I could ask the same of you Jun."

As if realizing that something was off about the petite girl, Jun took a chance and grabbed her hand. Seeing that the younger girl didn't resist, she continued speaking.

"If Tanaka-san needs anything I'll do my best to help!"

Gazing up at the much taller girl, Reina returned the smile. The Chinese foreigner had a calming aura around her and somehow that made Reina feel safe to have her companionship. Since she couldn't get a hold of Risa, maybe Jun would make a suitable choice as well. Deciding that she could trust her with her secret, which wasn't much of one going by the number of people who already knew about her habit, Reina asked.

"Would you want to keep me company at a nicotine anonymous meeting?"

Ah, poor Eri, she finally has to let go of Ai. Or does she? She didn't go postal, so that's a plus.

Ah, poor mirror, being broken by the pain of love. At least it got to bite back a little, though I wonder how Risa will hide that cut.

Ah, poor me, I was hoping for some solid Tanagaki, maybe a little 'help me forget about Ai' lovin.' But, ReiJun? Was Jun in love with Sayu? Or Reina at first? At least the kitty is doing something about her habit, but she always seems to be missing Risa when the other girl needs someone the most.

I had meant to read this a couple of days ago but then the "announcement" happened....my mind still hasn't settled all that much but what better distraction than the world of fiction right?

chapter 19 starto~

the taxi stopped.  no one injured.  Hammy san+1

GAKI SAN!?  but but that can't be....unless!! no no brain...it isn't Gaki's wandering spirit from her comatose state, hammy doesn't do that in her fics...wait...yes she does! :O

The throbbing from my hands was momentarily forgotten when a stinging pain stabbed through my right chest and I slumped over from the pain, sucking in a sharp breathe of air in the process.

*gasp* hasn't the girl suffered enough?!  What MORE did you do to Gaki san !!!!!?!??!

wait...so Gaki san's not unconscious in a stairwell??....I'm missing something here....OMG...I'm missing a chapter!   Wah!...I could have sworn I read 18...but then again I didn't leave a comment...ah baka Sukoshi...this is what I get for saving my favourite stories for a rainy date...  :mon wtf: well erm I'll rewind later

You know...I think I'll have to start adding glass to my list of fiction-fears alongside taxis.

lol just a couple of lines in and it's already so awesome!  love the line!  Hammy san+2

:shy2: :shy2: :shy2:

love it. love it. love it.

*after chapter 18 and 19*

oh! okay, so that's what happened!  So Gaki being in a coma was just part of my imagination from chapter 17     well then you have saved yourself from the nattou attack.  and yes it does go bad even though it's fermented..if you were living in the Michishige residence..Michishige mama would lie and tell you, "you can still eat it a day or two after it's expiration date" XD

ah... I think I was suppose to offer you some fortune-telling advice?  well, I'll just tell you...getting advice from me is actually worse than seeking answers from a fortune cookie XD  All I'll say is no matter how bad life gets, there will always, always be little moments of happiness that come along...that make things feel a little easier to bare and remind you to keep moving forward so that one day you can stumble upon a greater happiness.

hmm...that was really corny I guess..but I believe it =)   After all I'm here today, enjoying my little moment of happiness reading your story.   :D

Normally I'll be against Kame coming between TakaGaki. It's hard not to root for the turtle this time though, especially seeing how accepting the turtle is towards the situation. Rival aside, Risa is also Eri's close friend and there's no way the kind Kame will let Risa suffer, even if it's in her own expense.

I don't know what to say about Risa though. She's too depressed to the point of psychotic? :huhuh

There's a rehab to quit smoking? :O Good for Reina :D This will be her nice surprise for Risa later

Merry Go Round
Chapter 20

The short break that the girls enjoyed was over in a flash and on Monday morning, all of them were required to return to the office and attend the first reading of their latest play, 'Fashionable.' This time the musical revolved around a clothing store and the people who worked in it.

Astonishingly the first arrival to the designated dressing room that day wasn't the regular "early" member of the group. It was instead a certain bunny. Entering the room with her bag hanging loosely from her shoulder, Sayumi headed for the nearest chair and dropped herself on it. Leaving her duffel on the floor beside her feet, she laid her left elbow on the table and rested her chin on her open palm.

"I need to talk to someone...or I might just go crazy!"

There was no one else nearby to hear or reply her statement. And this was precisely why she chose to let out her grievances at this juncture. Even though she really wished to be able to discuss her problem with anyone who might listen, she knew the potential troubles it could bring should that someone involved in the issue found out. Someone like her fellow Rokkie.

*Sigh*

It was at this moment when a couple of her juniors tumbled in through the door creating uproar with their chatter and shrieks. The ruckus conveniently covered Sayumi's audible sighs, keeping her woes a secret for now. Watching the trio of girls, she counted them off mentally.

Mitsui, Lin Lin and Koha-pinku. Where is Jun Jun?

As soon as her thoughts fell on the oldest kouhai, Sayumi's memory evoked a scene which made her shake her head unintentionally.

~Flashback~

"I was hoping you would say that. The truth is, I've had this feeling ever since I entered Morning Musume."

Not exactly sure how she should respond to this statement, Sayumi cast the taller a sideways glance as they stepped side by side into the elevator that would bring them to her apartment.

"You could just give me a call. Instead of having to come all the way down."

"Some things have to be said face to face."

Her tone of voice was somewhat peculiar and Sayumi felt an unexplainable sense of dread when she thought about what Jun Jun might have to say. They continued their travel in the lift in an uncomfortable silence until the sudden action by the foreigner caused Sayumi to jump and her heart to stop beating. Jun Jun had placed a death grip on her upper arm and pulled her close.

"Jun Jun! What are you doing?!"

The shock and fear was evident in the voice of the cutest member as her eyes widened to twice their usual size. Sensing that the sole other occupant in the elevator wasn't going to loosen her hold, she struggled to free herself. Her efforts only resulted in the taller shoving her against the wall and pinning her in between her arms.

"Don't force me to do this. I only want Tanaka-san to be happy."

Despite her compromising position, Sayumi couldn't help her brain catching on to the words "Tanaka-san."

"Reina?! What has she got to do with this?"

Her trashing ceased shortly as she shouted out the question, not noticing that Jun Jun had began tearing.

"I like Tanaka-san okay? I like her!"

The Chinese girl's grip finally slacked which allowed her victim to slither her sore wrist out of the iron grasp.

"Wasn't this about me? Isn't the person you like, me?"

The astounding statement made the one who had been looking down raise her head and stare with mouth agape at her infuriated senpai.

"Michishige-san is cute but no, it's Tanaka-san I like."

"But...but...weren't you copying my hair... my dressing..."

The elevator doors slid open following the ding of the lift announcing their arrival at the preset floor. Exchanging another glance, the pair stepped out of the structure and stood in the space just outside before resuming their conversation.

"If my actions misled you, I'm terribly sorry. But the reason why I came here today was to ask you to stop seeing Niigaki-san. Please stay away from her so Tanaka-san has a chance. She really likes Niigaki-san."

When Jun Jun's admission sank in, Sayumi processed the group's relationship in her head. Apparently, most of the 56kkies had someone who loved them unconditionally. Everyone, except her that is. What she didn't know was that Ai's feelings for Eri were already wavering.

"Why does everyone think I'm clinging to Gaki-san? I already told Reina it wasn't like that! What me and Gaki-san share, it's a form of support. I love her as a close friend and team mate. But nothing more." I wish it was something more. Then both her and I wouldn't be so tormented by this thing called love.

"So Tanaka-san knows she can try getting together with Niigaki-san. I see. Thank you Michishige-san."

Backing a short distance away from Sayumi, she bowed to show her appreciation before re-entering another lift which had coincidentally opened up.

"Jun Jun! I've not finished talking!"

Nevertheless there was no respond from the other as the elevator doors had glided close again.

~End of Flashback~

"That stupid girl. She was only supposed to learn Japanese and how to sing and dance. Not how to fall in love... with the wrong person."

-----

When it was almost time for the commencement of the script reading, everyone shuffled into the room and sat in various chairs around the U-shaped conference table.

Every now and then, Eri stole glances at her girlfriend. As she had predicted, she was fully immersed in her role, utterly convincing as her character of  the kind hearted protagonist, Coco. When it was Risa's turn to read, the younger half of GakiKame detected that something was off about her radio show partner.

Having spent so much time with the bean, she was positive that Risa wasn't at a hundred percent. And why was she wearing her jacket with the sleeves completely hiding her hands? It wasn’t that cold in the room. In fact the temperature in summer now was so hot that the air-conditioning was barely enough to battle the heatwave.

"Let's take a 15 minute break! I think we need it."

Closing her script and placing it down on the table, Ai suggested, lifting her bottle of water and taking a few sips from it. While her words weren't directed at anyone in particular, Eri suspected she had called for the intermission as she too had noticed that Risa kept knitting her eyebrows and blinking at her papers.

She didn't want to ask Ai to go and speak with Risa for it hurt too much. Yet she knew the leader wouldn't be at ease unless she knew for sure that her ever dependable second in command was alright.

"Ai-chan, I think something's up with Gaki-san. Maybe you should go talk to her."

Narrowing her eyes at her own stack of documents filled with random doodling, Eri kept her line of sight on a specific turtle scrawled on the top right hand section of her script’s index page. She might not be able to stop her tears from falling and it was best if Ai didn't see them. She didn't want her lover to feel guilty in spite of her betrayal.

It took some convincing before Ai relented and stood up from her seat, crossing the length of the room to where Risa was sitting by herself on the couch.

When she was sure Ai could no longer see her clearly, Eri let the lone tear she had been holding in slid from her eye. Folding her arms and laying them on the table, she set her head down on them and pretended to be taking a nap. No one would come and talk to her if they thought she was sleeping. And it wouldn't be a surprise for her to be resting. She had always been known as the aho sleepyhead anyway.

However, Eri didn't know that her heart wasn't the only one that was breaking in this instant. Another person who was secretly watching her was hurting as well.

Oh Eririn, why do you treat yourself so cruelly?

-----

Please just walk by without acknowledging me.
Please don't even glance this way.

Unfortunately, Risa's prayers weren't answered as the person she wanted to have the least contact with had come to sit down beside her on the single two seater couch positioned in the far end of the room.

"Are you alright? You seem tired."

"Never felt better. I have to go Ai-chan. See you later after the break."

Grabbing her belongings hastily from where she had left them, Risa didn't realize that something had fallen out of the unzipped compartment of her gym bag and slipped between the cushions of the sofa.

I've closed my heart, I've hid my tears, please don't make my resolve crumble.

Sprinting away from where Ai was to a deserted part of the building, Risa threw her bag against the wall and fell to her kneels, letting all her pent up emotion burst out at once. She used the sleeve of her jacket to wipe at the tears soaking her face and as she did so, her right sleeve rode up her arm to reveal her fist wrapped in a bandage. Blood had already seeped through the folds, tainting the pure white fabric with patches of a crimson red.

I gave my love away. What I have left is only the memories I cherish alone.

Back in the group’s resting area, Ai discovered the partially hidden hardcover book and flipped open to a random page, hoping to determine the owner of the diary.

Even though you are far away...

...I wish you happiness.

I bury my love, deep within my heart.

For you can never know, how I will always love you.

Shutting the book bound in a red casing and biting down on her quivering lip, Ai hugged the journal to her chest. She had to find her, she had to tell her that she was feeling the same way.

“Why didn’t you tell me, Risa-chan...”

LOL for a second I thought Junjun was gonna go all sexy-dude-from-shoujo-manga-forcibly-kissing-shoujo-girl-against-a-wall on Sayu XD  In which case, Sayu would have no choice but to instantly fall in love with Jun.....

If this were a kdrama, the item that slipped between the cushions would probably be a bottle of pills!

oh! but luckily in this Hammy drama, it's only a book XD  Though Gaki did need to go to the hospital, so the pills would have actually been better?! (for Gaki that is) but then Ai chan would have to go investigate the pills and find out from a random doctor that Gaki san only has x amount of months to live!  omg how horrible!

Should I be glad this is a Hammy-fic instead of a kdrama or Sukoshi's mind?  I can't tell XD  I will need some convincing

"I like Tanaka-san okay? I like her!"
*stumble* W-What?! Was this mentioned somewhere before?

Quote
Apparently, most of the 56kkies had someone who loved them unconditionally. Everyone, except her that is.
Let's see
Jun Jun  > Reina
Reina  > Risa
Risa  > Ai
Ai (as far as Sayu knows) > Eri
Eri  > Ai
Umm, wow. How sadly true... Poor Sayu, but lol.

Quote
"Why does everyone think I'm clinging to Gaki-san?
Um, cause you kissed in front of them...

Quote
"That stupid girl. She was only supposed to learn Japanese and how to sing and dance. Not how to fall in love... with the wrong person."
... Sayu  > Jun?

Quote
She didn't want to ask Ai to go and speak with Risa for it hurt too much. Yet she knew the leader wouldn't be at ease unless she knew for sure that her ever dependable second in command was alright.

"Ai-chan, I think something's up with Gaki-san. Maybe you should go talk to her."
ERI!! :pleeease: She's a good girl...

Quote
Narrowing her eyes at her own stack of documents filled with random doodling,
  Eri! Aho...

Quote
Eri let the lone tear she had been holding in slid from her eye.
.... ERI!! :fainted: Poor girl...

Quote
Oh Eririn, why do you treat yourself so cruelly?
Sayu?

Quote
She used the sleeve of her jacket to wipe at the tears soaking her face and as she did so, her right sleeve rode up her arm to reveal her fist wrapped in a bandage. Blood had already seeped through the folds, tainting the pure white fabric with patches of a crimson red.
I can't help but laugh a little, this poor girl has been through that bloody stomach thing, a head injury and now her highly visible hands are cut up? Oh Hammykins, I really love you, you make it seem feasible.

Quote
“Why didn’t you tell me, Risa-chan...”
And Ai knows Risa's feelings for sure.  The question is, what will she do about it?

MGR 19

@rnd: Risa hid the cut with her jacket. But you will see from the latest chapter, someone will find out ;)

@Kuro-san: Has Eri really let go?? :smhid

@Sukoshi-chan: Hee hee, you never let me forgot about the taxi do you. Awww, that was *sniff* so *sniff* SWEET!! *bawls* Don't play with my little tender heart

@BS: Don't make me doubt myself. I'm pretty sure there is such rehab. And the funny thing was I actually saw such a banner a few days after I posted this?

MGR 20

@Sukoshi-chan: I saw that OPV!! You genius you. I said not to play with me heart didn't I? But you made me cry so many times. Lol, but ah ha! This isn't a Kdrama. Though in Hammy's world, it could come close :P

@rnd: I see you too have gotten surprised at the JJ curveball. Why are you laughing at Sayu? The poor girl is unwanted. That should earn her some tears? Seeing that you're the 2nd person to ask if Sayu loves JJ due to that line, I should clear it up. She doesn't. But she knows that Reina likes Risa and might not like JJ back hence she thought that way. :(

Merry Go Round
Chapter 21

"Where is it?"

Shaking the contents of her bag out onto the dresser in an agitated manner, Risa cursed under her breath when she could not find her single most personal possession. The diary in which she recorded her daily happenings and innermost feelings was missing from the usual compartment in her gym bag.

"Damn it!"

Slamming her fist down on the hard polished surface of the furniture in exasperation, she forgot about the injury sustained to her hand the previous night and almost collapsed from the intense pain that shot up her entire arm in that instant. Holding her broken limp close to her chest, she took in deep gasps of air to ease the stinging sensation. In the same second, the melody from her cell phone sounded and the lights on the device flashed, signalling that a new message had come in.

Making her way over to the gadget lying at the far end of the dresser, Risa picked it up with difficulty and flipped it open.

Your diary is with me. You can pick it up from my apartment - Ai

Although she knew that Ai was a person who respected other's privacy, Risa couldn't help but feel worried that she might have accidentally stumbled upon the entries which stated how deeply she felt for the older girl. And if she found out, the bean was terrified of the repercussions. What would Ai think? Would she be too sickened and scared of her to even want to see her again?

It was precisely this fear of having Ai look at her differently after finding out about her affections which made Risa decide to bear the pain of seeing her with someone else. If hiding her love was the only way she could keep seeing Ai on a regular basis and to be still a part of her life, then so be it. But should Ai discover that her best friend had been lying all along, Risa didn't know what her reaction would be. And this ambiguity freaked her out. She hated not being prepared. And at this juncture, she was facing one of the biggest uncertainties of her life.

-----

"Gaki-san."

Standing from behind the door, her face partially hidden by the shadows cast by the sturdy structure, Ai acknowledged her sub-leader’s presence and stepped away to allow the younger girl entry. Inside, she noticed that Risa hadn't changed out of the clothes she had worn at practise earlier. Was she that anxious to collect her diary that she couldn’t even be bothered to take a bath and change after reaching home? Judging from the weariness apparent on her face, she suspected Risa hadn't stopped for a break since that morning.

"Do you have my diary? Could I please have it back?"

The abrupt request shocked Ai. Why did her usually polite friend skip the niceties and practically demand for her property? Unsure of how she should reply, Ai wordlessly pointed to the coffee table where the book bound in red material was placed. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Risa basically flew over the sofa to get to her diary and clung onto it with a death grip after she had it back in her possession.

"Thanks for keeping it for me. I'll be leaving now."

"Wait!"

Before Risa could turn to leave, Ai was beside her in a flash. And the older girl had reached out for the bean's hand, wanting to halt her exit. What happened next was the taller shrinking her arm back instantaneously with her face scrunched up in pain. Sensing stickiness on her fingers, Ai looked down to find them covered with a red fluid.

"Risa! You're bleeding!"

Using both hands to grab at the stunned individual, Ai was careful not to aggravate her injuries as she brought the cut limb nearer to her face to inspect the severity of the lesions.

"How did you hurt yourself like this?"

It was less of a question than a command and it was clear that the elder was pissed. Her eyes were blazing with fury and she felt so much anger at seeing the current state that Risa was in. She herself could not explain why she was so angry that her friend didn't take better care of herself.

"Accident. It's really nothing."

"Nothing? You call this nothing?! You could bleed to death!"

Steering Risa to sit down on the couch, Ai ordered her to stay put while she went to fetch the medical kit. Despite her protests that everything was fine, Ai undid the stained bandages when she returned and examined the wound meticulously. There were a number of cuts and none of them were properly treated. Infection seemed to have begun to set in and if things got worse, she might even lose a finger or two.

"Dear god Risa, how did you do this to yourself?"

Not looking up from cleaning the hand which she had gently rested on her lap with antiseptic lotion, Ai furrowed her brows, totally concentrated on her task at hand.

"Broke a mirror."

Was the mumbled reply. Thinking that Ai wouldn't detect her staring due to having her head bent low, Risa took the opportunity to admire her profile, quietly gazing at her long lashes, beautiful eyes, cute nose and plush lips. This was the person she was in love with, sitting so close to her that she could almost smell her scent. And it took every restrain Risa had within herself to not reach out and pull her in a hug.

I love you so much. And it kills me to not be able to tell you.

When Ai looked up all of a sudden, their eyes inevitably met and Risa tore away her gaze immediately, filled with immense guilt at having been caught staring.

"It's late I better go."

Standing up from the sofa, Risa crossed the length of the room to the exit without waiting for Ai's response. In her haste to flee the confine space where even breathing in the same air was too much to take, she ignored Ai's cries for her to stay. She didn't care that her hand wasn't wrapped up yet or that Ai's voice sounded peculiar. She couldn't afford to stop now. Not when things have come so far. Ai was already in a relationship with Eri. And she couldn't hurt the turtle, not when she was her other good friend.

-----

"Gaki-san!"

Ai stumbled barefooted out onto the walkway in her skimpy attire of shorts and a tank top. She didn't waste any time putting on a jacket or wearing slippers in her haste to catch up to Risa. Glancing both ways in the dimly lit street, she could no longer catch sight of her companion for the past nine years.

"Gaki-san! Come back!"

Tears sprang to her eyes as she ran blindly, not knowing where to start looking for the person she only recently realized she loved. Her feet were cold against the icy pavements and she shivered uncontrollably from the howling winds. But still Ai didn't head back to the warmth and safety of her home. She needed to find Risa, she wanted to tell her how she felt the same way for her and that her resolution would not be deterred. As for Eri, they could make it up to her in other ways. Let them be selfish for once, and love each other regardless of the people they might hurt in the process.

"Let me tell you I love you. Let me say it."

The tears fell like rain and her eyes stung from the never-ending wave of emotion racking her body with sobs. Nevertheless, she couldn't locate her, she couldn't find her soul mate in the darkness of the night. So caught up in her search, Ai never noticed that a group of men huddled around a trash bin smoking had set their sights on her. They focused their leery gazes on her taunt midriff, exposed by the winds lifting her top. As well as her tight butt and shapely legs hardly covered by her shorts. But most of all, they drooled at her gorgeous face made even more enticing under the moonlit night.

-----

"Why did I leave without a word. Did I hurt Ai's feelings?"

As she strolled further away from the lavish apartment block, Risa began to get second thoughts about her callous behaviour. Her leader and friend had kindly kept her diary for her and even tried to nurse her injuries. Yet all she did was push her away and act so heartlessly.

"You are a total jerk Niigaki Risa."

Blaming herself for being so insensitive, Risa turned back and started sprinting towards the apartment block she had grown so familiar with. As she approached the area where the upper middle class district was located, Risa caught a glimpse of some men dragging someone towards a car with the engine left running. Squinting from where she stood, she realized to her horror that the person they were currently loading into the vehicle was Ai!

Running across the road without bothering to check for impending traffic, Risa rushed forwards and pushed with all her strength against the man carrying Ai. Caught by surprise, the stocky man tripped and lost his grip on his captive, allowing her to fall limp into Risa's awaiting arms. Clearly, she had been knocked out by chemicals as Risa could still smell the faint scent of chloroform fumes lingering in the air.

Throwing Ai over her shoulder, Risa half dragged and half carried her off praying desperately that they would manage to escape. If there was only one captor, she might have had a chance. Unfortunately, the other men had noticed the commotion and had gotten out of the car to chase after them. Risa didn't make it further than the end of the street before she was cornered in an alley.

"Give us the girl."

"I've called the cops, they are already on their way."

Tightening her hold around Ai's waist, Risa held her near, determined to protect her friend no matter what. Staring at the group of men with utmost hatred, she hoped that her bluff wouldn’t be seen through. She hadn't had any time to call anyone. The only SOS message she had sent out was one with the license plate before she dashed across the road.

Sinister laughter resonated within the walls of the deserted lane as the men closed in, ignoring the possibility of law enforcers arriving swiftly. Backing Risa into the wall, they loomed over her, sneering at her helplessness. With frightened eyes, the twenty one year old could only watch as they snatched Ai away from her embrace and carried her into the distance.

"Don't take her, take me instead!"

At that moment, Risa detested herself for showing such cowardice, imploring scum like this. Yet she had no choice as she was indeed useless in the circumstance.

"We could take you both if you like."

The men chuckled, displaying his row of decayed teeth stained with a disgusting yellow. Taking in his gruff appearance, Risa could guess what he was planning to do and the outcome wasn't one she ever wanted to come true. In that instant, she felt something topple against her leg and somehow she knew at once what that item was. Without hesitation, she ducked lowed and scooped it up. With one smooth motion, she smashed the beer bottle over the perpetrator’s head.

His howl of pain alerted the rest as he staggered backwards, cradling his head. However, the warning came too late as Risa had caught up to the departing trio and stabbed the jagged piece of glass into one of their torsos. Ramming her shoulder into the upper stomach of the remaining vermin, the rush of adrenaline in her blood blocked out any sounds other than that of her breathing ringing in her ears.

Ai-chan, I got to get Ai-chan out of here!

Scrambling to help the unconscious girl up, Risa begged for her to wake up. It was virtually impossible for them to escape successfully unless she regained awareness. Alas her second attempt at evading the captors proved futile when a pair of hands grabbed her by the shoulders and flung her aside. The sickening thump of her head connecting to the brick wall followed by three kicks to her abdomen was more than enough to knock the wind out of her. Finding it difficult to breath, Risa fought hard against the hood of darkness threatening to overwhelm her. Cracking open her eyes with obvious effort, she spotted Ai lying less than two feet away, still knocked out. That was the last image she remembered before everything turned black.

Ugh feeling so faint~  :dizzy:

...........*ahem*  let me start by copying and pasting what I said in my last few reviews...

*paste* [ *gasp* hasn't Risa suffered enough?!  What MORE did you do are you going to Gaki san +(ai chan) !!!!!?!??!  ]

and now that I sound like a broken record....let me just say....

What.....what the flaming hello kitty just happened here?!!   :mon scare:

.....*tries to calm down for a minute*

So let me get this straight....there's 3 thugs, in an upscale part of town, with chloroform?!...what kind of super evil-doers did the girls run into?!?  :mon spit:

okay....so there's only 1 of 2 scenarios I'm willing to accept as a follow up

1. The thugs do horrible thugs things and everyone goes looking for the magical-pain-ending ocean that lies below a tall cliff.

or

2. The evil-doers actually belong to the Yakuza...and the head of the Yakuza family happens to Mr. Tanaka...so naturally Reina finds out and the girls get released harm free.

*hint to Hammy san...it's not option 1*    :mon mad:

Argh~ why did I read 3285 first?! why! WHy?!  :farofflook:

Went from :on gay: to  :mon ghost:  (Talk about dragging your readers through heaven and hell XD)

I'll be going to the bush now  :mon whimper:

Merry Go Round
Chapter 22

The veil of blackness finally cleared as Risa slowly found herself gazing up at the ceiling of a foreign location. The fog in her mind dissipated gradually as her eyes started to focus on her surroundings. She was in a dilapidated hut that was bare except for a lone table and two folding chairs placed on either side of it. Something wasn’t right about this picture. As she thought harder to remember what had happened before she landed up here, the events of the previous night came flooding back in a rush.

Being at Ai’s house, running off before she could dress her hand injury wholly, going back to find her only to see her captured by a group of dubious men, the short fight in the alley and then…this.

Ai-chan! Was she alright?

In her haste to get up and locate her friend, Risa pushed herself up with her elbows from her lying down position on the dirt floor but instantaneously fell back when the excruciating pain from both her head and body hit her hard. Squeezing her eyes shut and biting down on her lip, Risa struggled hard to not cry out in pain.  She wasn’t certain if the men were still around and she definitely didn’t want to alert them to the fact that she had woken. Wrapping her arms around her torso to feel at her bones, she suspected that the kicks she had received had resulted in a couple of bruised ribs.

“Gaki-san, are you okay?”

A quivering voice laced with immense concern entered her ears and Risa knew at once whom it belonged to.  Reopening her eyes, her vision was met with the tear streaked and dirty face of the woman she loved.

“No Ai-chan, are you alright?”

Allowing the older to help her up, Risa grunted against her wishes when the jarring movement aggravated her wounds.

“I’m so sorry, this is all my fault.”

More tears fell from her already swollen eyes when Ai saw how much pain her sub-leader had to endure. Her short hair was matted with clots of dried blood and she grimaced with every small shift of her tiny frame.  Releasing her arms from holding her stomach, Risa motioned for Ai to come closer. When she did, the younger took her into a gentle embrace, letting the shivering form lean against her chest.

“Shush. None of this is your fault. And it’s true. Because I said so.”

“Gaki-saaaaaan!!”

Breaking down completely when she heard these comforting words, Ai gripped tightly onto Risa’s clothes and sobbed into the nook of her neck.

“I’m so scared. What will they do to us?”

“No matter what happens, I’ll be here with you. And I won’t let them hurt you. It’s a promise.”

The two spent the rest of that day drifting in and out of sleep as they rested in the uncomfortable environment. They were incredible worn out by the shortage of food and water as well as the stifling weather of midsummer.  That night, as temperatures fell and the night become slightly more bearable with the interspersed winds incoming the shack through the tiny cracks between the wooden walls, Risa became aware of movement within the shed. Afraid that the men had returned, she didn’t open her eyes and continued pretending to be asleep.

-----

[Ai's POV]

I hadn’t fallen asleep at throughout the night. I had faked my weariness, as I didn’t know how to face you. Seeing how badly you were beaten up for my sake, I was all the more convinced that being with me only brought you trouble.  It was the same for Eri. If it weren’t because she wanted to protect me, she wouldn’t have been hurt when the stage lights malfunctioned.  Despite her ceaseless efforts, I did nothing to return her selfless affections and instead betrayed her trust. I had fallen in love with you without even knowing it.

I’m a jinx who doesn’t deserve to love or be loved!

Chewing on my lower lip, I wept in silence, careful to not stir the resting you. So caught up in my own thoughts, I didn’t notice that you had flinched slightly when I grazed my finger against your face to tenderly wipe at the dried blood.

“I’m in love with you Risa-chan. Will you please love me too?”

Caressing your cheek with my hand, I smiled sadly at your sleeping features, oblivious that you were conscious to my actions. As I tried to retrieve my arm, my fingers were halted in mid air when you grabbed onto them. Gasping in shock, I was stunned to see your brown eyes staring back at me. In spite of the lack of illumination, I could see the sparkle in them. Pulling my hand nearer to your mouth, you placed a soft kiss on my knuckles, all the while not breaking our eye contact.

“I’ve been in love with you since forever. I wish I’d told you about how I felt earlier. Then maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess.
Rather than it being your fault, it’s really mine.”

There was never a doubt that you were good with words, but in this moment, I couldn’t believe the extent of your skills at twisting the situation in such a way that absolved me from blame. I’m really just a cry baby, because I couldn’t help the tears that rushed from my eyes, drenching my top.

“Why are you so good to me? I’m not worth it.”

Coming to sit beside me, you drew me close and snuggled me in a bear hug.

“You’re worth it. Because in my eyes, you’re absolutely perfect. My perfect little Ai-chan.”

Lifting my chin with your cut hand, you offered a small smile before placing a kiss over my mouth. In that instant, I melted. Entirely. Everything about kissing you made me feel alive. If there was a way to know whether a person was the one, this was it. My entire body tingled with the most blissful sensation I had ever felt in my twenty-four years of existence when we shared that kiss. I knew I wanted more, I wanted to give you my everything. My body, my soul, my life.

Making the first move to remove my tank top, I grinned at your awestruck expression, unable to believe what I was suggesting.

“Are you sure? Because Ai-chan, I don’t want to force you against your wishes.”

“I’m sure. I love you Risa-chan.”

I affirmed again, finally confidant that I was positive about who I was in love with after all this time. It was you. My loyal companion ever since I started out in this industry.

Allowing you to pull my tank top over my head, I spread my legs apart to make it easier for you to unzip my denim shorts and tug them down my legs.  The two final pieces of garments came off when you unclasped my bra and I quickly wriggled out of my panties. This was it, this was how I was going to lose my first time. Although the atmosphere was less than satisfying, it was enough for me. Because I was doing it with you.

-----

[Risa's POV]

Note: This part consists of some *ahem*...well...pervy moments which I don't think I can post here without getting in trouble or offending anyone. So tell me here if you wanna read it? I'll PM or something.

“Eririn, will you please put on a cardigan?!”

With flashing eyes, the lanky lady ordered her same generation member. Going as far as to drape the knitted material over her exposed shoulders, Michishige Sayumi fumed, showing obvious displeasure at the unwanted attention her friend was receiving from the staff of the karaoke joint.

In the past two hours they had been there, more than half a dozen of the male workers had into dropped by their exclusive room to enquire about whether they needed more drinks or extra orders of various snacks. One was even ridiculous enough to ask if the room temperature had to be adjusted, when they already had the remote controller with them!

“For the last time NO! We DON’T need anything else!”

Shouting out in anger and exasperation, Sayumi shook her fists at the last staff worker who exited the room in a frenzy and flopped back down on her seat.

Those leery bastards!

Muttering the next statement while folding her arms over her chest, she transferred her killer stare from the room door, which had swung shut, to the other occupant in the room. Kamei Eri was still screaming into her mic, hollering at god knows what song in a bid to forget her troubles.

As she wasn’t a strong drinker, two to three cups of sake was enough to send her into a crazed state. Currently, she was singing in a monotonous voice while banging loudly on the tambourines provided by the establishment.

“God, when will this end?”

For the first time in her young life, Sayumi sincerely found someone other than herself to be a terrible singer. Her best friend had invited her out for some fun at the KTV place. Unfortunately, the narcissistic one had found out soon after that watching the person she was in love with drown her sorrows with alcohol and yelling herself hoarse was far from her idea of ‘fun’.

The continuous stream of text message alerts that kept emitting from Eri’s cell phone added on to the bunny’s irritation and she at last snapped. Rummaging through the turtle’s bag to retrieve her phone, the raven haired beauty scanned through the long list of messages.

“Mom…mom…sister…mom…sister…Gaki-san…”

“Gaki-san?”

Surprised that Risa would contact Eri during this awkward period where they were all going through the unpleasant stage of having feelings for the wrong people, Sayumi accessed the message.

Do want pervyness!!!

Poor Sayu, having to put up with a heartbroken turtle. Oh, was the text she received from Gaki the one trying to ask for help?

EDIT: I just realized it was the license plate number. Will Sayu figure out what it means? BTW, didn't Ai give her first time to Eri already? Or was it that she took Eri's and wouldn't let her return the favor?
