I finally got so bored that I had nothing better to do than post a thread for my favorite jpop artist

I've been a huge Sonim fan ever since I saw the cover of Curry Rice No Onna single back in 2002 and she's still my favorite non-H!P artist.
And since her new movie is coming out on dvd in couple of days I think it's about time to get her thread up.

Information:
Originally discovered when she tried out to be part of Morning Musume (the same tryouts that produced Goto Maki and also saw Koda Kumi trying out), Sonim was paired up with Goto Yuki - brother of famous Hello! Project singer Goto Maki - to create the J-pop group EE Jump. With fun and light-hearted songs, and produced by H!P guru Tsunku, EE Jump had a promising future until Yuki was kicked out for being caught drunk in a strip club at the ripe age of 16. Sonim released a solo-single under the artist name 'EE Jump featuring Sonim'. After the single proved to be EE Jump's most successful one to date, the group put out one more as a duet and EE Jump was disbanded. After EE Jump, Sonim began a solo career which now consists of a string of successful singles and an album. Some of her single's B-tracks are solo versions of EE Jump's songs.

Awesome thread Masa...it must have taken you quite awhile to write up! It's nice to see another Sonin fan-- I've been supporting her ever since I saw EE Jump's "Hello! Atarashii Watashi" appearance on Utaban in 2001. I was devastated when the group disbanded, but was happy when Sonin continued with a solo career.

For the record, I have all of EE Jump and Sonin's singles/album thus far, and she's also my favorite non-H!P artist! Plus, she's Korean! KOREAN PRIDE!

Here's Sonim's Novemeber 2002 appearance on Utaban. As a promo for her single Tsugaru Kaikyou no Onna they kidnap her and make her undergo a "Domino Therapy Study Session". This episode is a rollercoaster ride of emotions as Sonim experiences equals amounts of success and failure and nearly cracks from the pressure of having to construct a massive domino set in under 6 days. Does she succeed? Watch it to find out!

I saw Sonim on something recently, and she is just as fine and elegant as she can be. Like the Sun, she gotten hotter as she's gotten older.

Also, is it true that Sonin once stripped nude in a Sanma appearance? I've seen screenshots, but not sure if they were photoshopped or not. I'd like to see it!

Ahh~ Yay, thread for Sonim. (Probably only girl in the thread) I have to say I noticed her when I saw her acting in KouKouKyoushi (She plays a really SAD role in it) and then saw her in Music Station 2002 live.

You should mention the part how she got AXED from Toy Factory before moving to Harmony Records because I guess she wasn't selling as well on her 4th single or something? Her stuff is just loads better from Harmony records though (5th single on)

Koukou Kyoushi is the only j-dorama I've seen and to be honest Sonim is the only reason why I watched it

Her contract with Toy Factory ended after Goukon Ato No Famiresu Nite single and since it didn't sell that well they never offered her a new contract.
So now she's basically an indy artist and the funny thing is that Honto wane actually sold more than Goukon Ato No Famiresu Nite

I agree...I like her recent singles a lot better than her older ones. While Curry Rice no Onna was awesome, Honto wa ne, Jigsaw Puzzle, and Asunaro Ginga were far better than her first three.

Interesting observation: After seeing her cook on both Ayuready and Ai no Apron, I've noticed that it seems that Sonim is good at cooking cakes, but for SOME REASON, not good at cooking regular food at all. :scratch
