To me Ron Silver was a performer strongly engaged with the culture around him and used whatever celebrity he had to the service of his activist causes (e.g. Alec Baldwin, Charlton Heston). I'm not sure I ever heard of such a complete turnaround, going left-right in a more direct manner than maybe even Dennis Miller.
Still, he had a passion for the craft of acting that probably overshadowed this backstory. I'll remember him more for his role in "Wiseguy" as a son who could never get the love and acceptance of his father (played by a trim Jerry Lewis).

I loved it when he'd play the bad guy in a flick. He always played it calm, yet coldhearted...something that we don't see as much of these days. It really sucks (IMO) how the offers "dried up" for him after he expressed his support for the troops and left the Democrats to become an Independant. Having differing opinions is all fine and well, but a man shouldn't be "punished" in that way for having them.
Anyways, R.I.P.

Very true in your sentiments, JFC.
I 2nd it.
Nobody knows when that final curtain will drop, so each day is precious.
God speed, Ron, may you rest in peace.
