Japan Nite 2009 tour
« on: March 31, 2009, 12:32:47 AM »
a little late to make the thread since the tour ended last night. but stryfe wanted to see the pics I upped on facebook lol. anyone else that went, feel free to discuss and post pics etc. I know ping went to the NYC step and flyp went to both nights at SXSW.

anyway, pics (click for fullsize):

FLiP. cool girl rock band from Okinawa. hellacute. Sachiko on guitar (jacket), Yuuko on guitar (white shirt), Sayaka on bass, Yuumi on drums.

Omodaka. Dude is fucking amazing. his set was genius and awe inspiring. chip tune artist, mixes it with traditional Japanese elements and awesome visuals. His laptop was running bass and drums, he had a Gameboy color and a PSP running melody and rhythm, played main melody on a DS Lite running music software (note the tiny keyboard he plays with the stylus), and added effects with a Chaos Synth Pad (me and boykun got to play the chaos pad during his last song!), also the videos were being projected from his laptop to a flatscreen he had taped to chair. it was great to see him work, actually performing and shit and not just standing at a couple of computers. fucking awesome set.

SA (Samurai Attack). super high energy punk band. got the crowd going good, just plain old rock and roll. the guitar player NAOKI (blonde spikes) was really cool and funny, he would pose for pictures and shit while he was playing.

detroit7. one of my favorite bands. Nabana is a sexy fucken beast, lots of pics of her. I was kinda staring down her shirt as she was setting up her pedals since she was only like 8 inches in front of me... ...........she's so fucken sexy. anyway, first like 6 pics are from when they were setting up/warming up

I forgot to take pics of sparta locals...

Dude, Japanese bands play there pretty darn often.

Besides the obvious SXSW fest I believe in the past year polysics, boris, melt-banana, and maybe mono have played there.

^ lol I think more Japanese bands have played in austin than CA, and we're like the closest state to them!

But anyways, was a fun night, though I spent most of it in the back. Didn't really feel like going into the pit. I did make my way to the front for some of detroit 7 and Sparta Locals.

FLiP is really a good band considering how young they are. The drummer is super cute, she was in the back watching SA after Omodaka, and she's super tiny. Wanted to get their jacket, but it was 150 bucks... Probably the band I was looking forward to checking out the most. Think I missed their first song though.

Favorite band of the night was detroit 7, but Sparta Locals and SA were great too. The SA crowd was definitely my favorite of the night though. Omodaka had an awesome set, but not really my thing musically.

The most common place for japanese bands to turn up in the U.S. is new york city.  The number of bands that just roll into town for a day or two is surprising to me.

I went to see them in Seattle when Japan Nite came to town. Had a blast. The opening act was local (Portland) band The Slants. I had to be at work at 6 in the am I only got to listen to SA's first song.
Life is one time.
