Assassin's Creed 3 will be Ubisoft's "most ambitious" video game ever, the company has claimed as it released the first trailer for the game.

The game has been in development for three years - since the conclusion of Assassin's Creed 2, in other words, while spin-offs Brotherhood and Revelations were being released.

It also boasts twice the production capacity of any Ubisoft to date.

Development is being headed by Ubisoft Montreal, in collaboration with six (count 'em) other Ubisoft studios.

It features a new engine, Ubisoft-AnvilNext, for improved visuals, character models and AI, allowing for battlefields full of fighters.

The new title is set in American Revolutionary times and features a protagonist named Ratohnaké:ton, or Connor, who is of Native American and English heritage.

"Assassin's Creed 3 features the franchise's most expansive setting so far, along with an exciting new hero and exponentially more gameplay," said Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot.

"Whether you're a longtime fan of Assassin's Creed or if you're new to the franchise, you're going to be blown away by the scale and marvel of Assassin's Creed 3."

I am very excited.

SO I'm playing AC1 for the first time ever, and while good, is it supposed to be this dull in parts? lol.

The first time I had to ride a horse it took what felt like a real time hour slowing down all the time for these endless amounts of guards along the way, along with one part that was guard after guard after guard D:

I mean if you can "fast forward memory to a more recent segment" when I just have to walk up a hill, why is the majority of my memory of me riding a horse for hours XD

I just flat out quit this second time I was riding it, it'd had taken me about half an hour to get to this place with lots of guards, more slowing down and more boredom, but then, even though I was blending, they still started chasing me anyway! and the only way to go was BACK THE WAY I CAME D: guards standing next to hay bales so I couldn't hide there, on and on and on, the more I ran away, the more time it would take me to get back there. >:|

AC1 did feel kinda dull so I never got to finish it (I had borrowed it for a short time from my brother).  You should play Brotherhood and Revelations (and maybe AC2 as well) if you're looking for something more action-oriented.

AC1 is worth playing or at least seeing for the story but the actual game is repetitive and fairly dull. A shame cause a game in the Crusades should be awesome. Stick with it though, AC2 and each game thereafter does it so much better.

Maybe I've been blind to it this whole time but it's pretty cool how they worked the Assassin's Creed logo into the tomahawk.

This thread's title on this day  Wanna see something else funny?

But back to serious business now, this preview here for AC3 sounds amazing. Few tidbits I've learned which sound the most impressive, is that there are two major cities in Boston and New York with lots of wilderness between them, apparently even larger in size than Rome was in Brotherhood. And perhaps more impressive, AC3 now allows up to 2000 characters on screen at once. Sounds like major scaled battles are an inevitability

2000 characters on one screen?  The system requirements are gonna be pretty high I think.  I guess the "Den Defense" will be expanded out to an all-out war *coughME3cough*.  Similar to what CliffyB said about Gears of War, "Save Your Money.  Assassin's Creed 3.  Great game."

^ The creative lead for AC3 has come out and openly said that the Tower Defence stuff from Revelations won't appear in this game. Just as well really, it wasn't a good implementation and might be ok if expanded out into it's own iOS game or something but I'm certainly not going to complain that they've left it out for AC3.

As I type this, I've just completed Revelations. I enjoyed it, but it was definately the weakest in the main series thus far. It's a harsh thing to say considering it's still a great game, but I definately felt the fatigue coming off AC2 and Brotherhood. Very little had changed and anything that was new here was only a miniscule adjustment in comparison. Also it just had the same problems (kinda dumb AI) and ones that were more prominent (screen tearing in cutscenes like a mofo, even loading up a map take a load screen to do) than in any other game. I think it ended poorly, it's actually just as well I read the novel beforehand because I would really be asking questions on what happened to Ezio afterwards.

But like I said, still a great game and it definately had it's moments. For some reason, the tagging the fragments complaint I issued earlier suddenly wasn't an issue after a certain point in the game. Really weird. I did like the way it handled the fragments when you reached past 50 or so, it just automatically adds the rest onto your map. It actually made me, for the first time, go out and collect them all. Granted it removes the challenge element of going out and finding them, and there is no reward to do so unless you want the achievement but still, least now I can say I can! Multiplayer is still as fun as ever too.

All in all, I may have felt the annual iteration fatigue with Revelations, but I still enjoyed it. And I simply cannot wait for AC3.

Arrivederci Ezio Auditore.

That trailer's so good. The ending, holy crap!

Not getting a great reception over here in the UK though, what with all it's Redcoat killings and American flag waving. But it's a trailer! Besides, how do they think Germans or Russians feel when they're the bad guys in any video game too, bet that doesn't make them angry
