WWE News: WWE pulls video of Undertaker caught on fire, Updates on TMZ covering the story, Photo slideshow

By James Caldwell, Torch assistant editor

Handheld video surfaced this morning of The Undertaker momentarily being caught on fire during his ring entrance at last night's WWE Elimination Chamber PPV, but WWE quickly had the video removed from YouTube.

The video shot from above and to the right of the entrance stage showed Taker standing in the middle of the stage when a flame shot up directly where he was standing. Taker then ran from the platform down the entranceramp and discarded his hat and coat.

TMZ picked up the story and posted an item this morning with a headline: "The Undertaker Survives Fireball to The Face."

Torch reader Chris Flynn submitted photos of The Undertaker incident last night. The photos are a little grainy, but you can see the flames engulfing Taker below...

Umaga News: Cause of death determined for Eddie Fatu (Umaga)

By James Caldwell, Torch assistant editor

Nearly three months after the death of former WWE wrestler Eddie Fatu (Umaga), the Harris County medical examiner in Houston has determined that Fatu's cause of death was "acute toxicity due to combined effects of hydrocodone, carisoprodol, and diazepam," reports wrestling author Irv Muchnick.

More specifically, it was a lethal combination of painkillers (hydrocodone), muscle relaxers (carisoprodol), and anti-anxiety medication (diazepam).

It's worth noting the medical examiner labeled Fatu's death "acute toxicity," which implies a deadly mix of drugs within a short period of time, usually 24 hours. The examiner did not link his death back to any "chronic" drug use prior to his death on December 4, but that could have been an indirect factor.

Benoit News: Supreme Court makes a ruling in Nancy Benoit Family vs. Hustler Magazine lawsuit

By James Caldwell, Torch assistant editor

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled today that the family of Nancy Benoit can proceed with a lawsuit against Hustler Magazine for using old nude photos in a story following the Benoit Family Tragedy in June 2007. The tragedy left Nancy, Chris, and their son, Daniel, dead from Chris's double murder-suicide.

The court turned down Hustler's appeal today to block the Toffoloni family from proceeding with a lawsuit.

Nancy Benoit's family filed a federal lawsuit against Hustler's corporate-backers seeking a remedy after they tried to capitalize on the murders by printing nude photos that Nancy had previously asked to be destroyed.

A political blog initially reported on the story this morning. Fox Sports has since picked up the story this afternoon.

Other News: Angelo Poffo, father of Randy Savage, reportedly dies at age 84

By James Caldwell, Torch assistant editor

Wrestling legend Angelo Poffo, the father of Randy Savage and "The Genius" Lanny Poffo, reportedly died this morning at age 84.

"It is with heavy heart we announce the loss of wrestling legend Angelo Poffo who passed away peacefully in his sleep this morning age 84," reports Lanny Poffo's webmaster, Steve Wilton.

Poffo was living at his home in Florida, where Randy and Lanny checked on him regularly. He recently began having trouble breathing.

Angelo Poffo's last national TV run was on WCW TV in the 1990s when he became involved in the memorable Randy Savage vs. Diamond Dallas Page feud.

Lanny posted a poem on his father's life on his official website.

WWE/TNA News: Chris Jericho critical of RVD angle on last night's TNA Impact

By James Caldwell, Torch assistant editor

WWE World Hvt. champion Chris Jericho was critical of how TNA booked Rob Van Dam's TNA debut on last night's Impact in a comment posted on Twitter this morning.

"The beat down of RVD 20 seconds into his debut in TNA was mind boggling," Jericho said. "I don't understand how so many talented people can be so clueless."

Recapping what happened on Impact, Sting was booked against a mystery opponent, which turned into RVD. RVD then beat Sting in a matter of seconds, but Sting delivered an extended post-match beat down until Hulk Hogan made the save.

correct me if I'm wrong, but Randy Savage's father was embroiled in the Savage-Flair feud back then, not the Savage-Page feud.

WWE News: Bret Hart talks in-depth on Vince McMahon, WWE return, Owen Hart during TV interview

By James Caldwell, Torch assistant editor

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart appeared on CTV's "Canada AM" show this morning promoting WrestleMania 26 and covering key subjects related to his return to WWE in a five-minute segment.

Hart was in-studio and shown not wearing a leg brace or using crutches to sell the storyline "car crash" leading to his WrestleMania match against Vince McMahon.

The over-riding story from what Hart said in the interview is that he came back to WWE because he did not want to be known as a bitter man holding grudges against the wrestling business or Vince McMahon forever. He also publicly absolved McMahon of any blame for his brother Owen Hart's death over ten years ago.

"I've clearly carried around a lot of bad feelings for Vince McMahon and the company for a long time. I think this whole - me coming back and playing this part and doing this thing with Vince McMahon at WrestleMania - is a way of clearing the table for everyone," Hart said.

"There's been so many bad things that happened; clearly my brother Owen's death was just a bad accident that you can't hold Vince McMahon directly accountable for that. It was someone else underneath that didn't know what he was doing. I guess my coming back was a way to forgive and forget in a good way and move on. I didn't know I would always be tagged as a guy who was always bitter or negative guy toward the wrestling business that kind of made me in a lot of ways. It's closure, maybe."

Hart added that he wanted to give back to the wrestling business and "make it okay" for wrestling fans in Canada to support the WWE product again. He said he felt it was time to put the past in the past and allow himself, Shawn Michaels, and Vince McMahon to have their burdens lifted from what happened at Survivor Series 1997.

"Now all these years later, it's like 'are you going to cry about it forever and just keep making a big deal about something that happened a long time ago in a wrestling match?' I know it's all very serious to me and it still is. But, at the same time, I felt that after 12 years, for one, I was getting a little bored back in Calgary just sitting around doing nothing all the time. I thought maybe it's a good time now after all these years to take something negative and turn it into a positive to do something good for wrestling fans to make them more at ease with what happened with me and my brother Owen," Hart said.

"I think a lot of people still feel a deep pain and deep hurt for what happened with my brother Owen. There's some of the younger generation Harts coming up in WWE, so I think it's a good way to show there's not the bad blood there used to be as far as making the wrestling as good as it used to be."

With people still concerned about his health after suffering a stroke in 2002, Hart closed by saying he doesn't expect to do anything physically he's not capable of working with McMahon at WrestleMania.

"Everyone watching shouldn't be too afraid of anything that's going to happen to me," he said. "I'm very careful of what I'm going to do and I'm going to take care of myself at WrestleMania."

WWE News: Bret Hart goes deep, in-depth on his WWE return - "They didn't come to me; I came to them"

By James Caldwell, Torch assistant editor

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart covered in-depth a number of questions, concerns, and skepticism on his WWE return, specifically working with Vince McMahon again, in an interview with Michael Landsberg on TSN's "Off the Record" in Canada today.

The top story coming out of Hart's interview was Hart saying he approached WWE to make his return, as he felt the time was right to "turn a negative into a positive" after sitting on bitter feelings toward WWE for 12 years.

"I feel that when I initially approached them about it - I mean they didn't come to me; I came to them - I basically talked about trying to turn a negative into a positive and making it a better ending than the one I had at the end," Hart said. "The truth is, I thought it would be fun. I thought I needed a little adventure. I had some time where I found I was doing nothing, so I thought, 'why not?' I kept taking the 'why nots' against the 'why's' and in the end, I couldn't come up with enough reasons why not."

Hart was asked if there were additional motivations for returning, either financially or because he couldn't walk away from the wrestling business like many of his peers.

"I didn't go back because I had to have it or needed it. I don't have the schedule that the wrestlers have and just to have a bit part on the show," Hart said. "Hopefully I'll make some money, but it was never really about the money. Even when I talked to him (Vince McMahon), we didn't bicker about what I was going to be paid. It was more what they would do with me and how we could make it fun. It was a big negative thinking about it for 13 years and being angry about what happened, and trying to take something negative and turn it into a positive."

Hart also said he sensed from Vince McMahon some sadness on his part over what happened at Survivor Series 1997 and especially with Owen Hart's death in 1999. Hart said he almost felt like it was an opportunity to relieve McMahon of his burdens from the situation.

"I found myself all these years later saying, 'If I could go back on my own terms and have fun and almost make light of what happened. Clearly what happened with my brother Owen was an accident. I don't think anyone refutes that much anymore. I think WWE and Vince McMahon carried around a lot of heartache because I don't think anyone felt good about that," Hart said.

"I do think there's a bit of conscience aspect to all this. I think Vince, in his own little small way, felt bad about what happened to me. And then the Owen tragedy heaped on top of it and the family problems and all the stuff that's happened over the years, I've sensed in my own little way - which is why I did come forward - that Vince has been looking for a little peace."

Hart recalled McMahon reaching out to him previously, specifically when he was in the hospital in 2002 after suffering a stroke. Hart said he was torn on whether to slam the phone down or listen to what McMahon had to say.

"When I had my stroke, he called me in the hospital within two or three days. I was in a bad state. When the phone rang, I remember picking it up and it was Vince's voice. There was a part of me that wanted to slam the phone down and there was another part of me that said, 'Talk to him.' I think in those fragile moments - people think now, 'Why would you go back? - those are all part of the process of repairing a friendship," Hart said. "I think in a lot of ways, Vince has always tried to make it to me. I just sensed the time was right - it was an open wound that everyone was better off putting a big band-aid on."

As for their singles match at WrestleMania 26, Hart said he doesn't anticipate a similar screwjob. If it does happen, he said he'll just shake his head at WWE. Hart also described his physical limitations in the ring, while adding his head is the most important part of his body to protect in the ring.

"I think I've come back with an open mind. If something bad happened again, I would just have to shake my head and go, 'Well, you asked for it, I guess.' I don't know what the benefit would be for either one of us to take that route again," Hart said before describing the expected physical aspect of their match.

"I'm at risk to a certain degree. I have limitations on what I can do physically, but I've taken every kind of precaution that I can take physically. I can't get hurt. I have to be really careful with my head. My head's worth all the money in the world," Hart said. "People see me and they assume, 'Oh, he can do lots of stuff.' And I'm sure I could do lots of things that I used to do, but anyone with the illusion that the Bret Hart they're going to watch at WrestleMania this year is going to be the Bret Hart of yesterday is not going to be the same thing. But, I will say that anyone who watches me wrestle will be entertaining by it. I've gone into this knowing I can at least satisfy my fans."

WWE News: Official WrestleMania 26 line-up after this week's TV shows

By James Caldwell, Torch assistant editor

After this weekend's run of WWE TV shows, the official WrestleMania 26 line-up shapes up with seven near-complete matches and no official announcement of a C.M. Punk vs. Rey Mysterio match yet.

WWE took nine steps toward confirming Punk vs. Rey on last night's Smackdown, but an official tenth step has not been taken yet. WWE will also be adding one more wrestler to the Money in the Bank line-up, with Kofi Kingston seemingly the odds-on-favorite to be added to the match.

The official WrestleMania PPV line-up is as follows:

-- Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker
The Career vs. The Streak

-- WWE champion Batista vs. John Cena

-- World Hvt. champion Chris Jericho vs. Edge

-- Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon

-- Triple H vs. Sheamus

-- Unified tag champions Big Show & The Miz vs. R-Truth & John Morrison

-- Money in the Bank match: Raw's four of Christian, Jack Swagger, MVP, and Evan Bourne and Smackdown's five of Dolph Ziggler, IC champion Drew McIntyre, Matt Hardy, Kane, and Shelton Benjamin. One more slot to be filled before WrestleMania.

Still to be added

-- C.M. Punk vs. Rey Mysterio, Legacy, and Divas.

WWE News: Shawn Michaels opens up more about being prepared to walk away from wrestling, comments on Ric Flair joining TNA

By James Caldwell, Torch assistant editor

WWE wrestler Shawn Michaels revealed much more about his mindset heading into WrestleMania 26 in an interview with Kevin Eck of the Baltimore Sun. Michaels also revealed his thoughts on Ric Flair joining TNA after Flair's retirement match with Michaels two years ago at WrestleMania and criticism of him doing the DX routine.

-- Michaels said Ric Flair called him before going to Australia for the Hulkamania Tour with Hulk Hogan to wrestle again and Michaels had no problem with it. He said he tried to be understanding when Flair called him about going to TNA on January 4 and ultimately wrestling again.

"He called me again when he was going to sign with TNA and asked the same thing. There’s nothing you can say. I certainly don’t have what it takes to look at somebody and say, 'Don’t go make a living.' I told him that, for me, nothing can take away that special moment. It will still always be to me that I had Ric Flair’s last match," Michaels said. "I tried to do the best job I could for him. I think it was a special moment. Anything after that [pauses]. I feel for him, but I’m certainly not angry or disappointed or anything. I would like to think that Ric probably would have liked that to have been his last match, too. The fact that it couldn’t be, I understand. Those are circumstances that I certainly can’t control."

Michaels also detailed his personal relationship with Flair: "I want what’s best for Ric, even if Ric might not always be aware of what that is, I still want that for him. Nothing will take away from that moment. It’s sill truly special. I still wear my watch every day, so it’s still something I’m really proud of."

-- Reading through Michaels's entire interview, it's obvious the tone from Michaels is that he's ready to walk away if that's the end result on Monday, he feels he's peaked as an in-ring performer in terms of "being able to top last year's WrestleMania," and he would much rather continue to find purpose and meaning at home with his faith & family rather than in the ring.

"I work on being a good husband and a good father after that, and then what’s left over from those things, I apply to my work. It’s not the end all be all anymore, but I still feel like I’ve done a good job at it and I’ve been faithful at it," Michaels said. "But everybody does understand that at 11:06 on Monday (when Raw goes off the air), I’m done. You can call all you want during the week, but I don’t take part in it and when I show up Monday, I will be there and I will do my job to the best of my ability, but then after that I’m done again."

-- One element that's been over-looked as far as why Michaels would walk away now is that he finally has closure and peace with Survivor Series 1997 with Bret Hart. Michaels and Hart's in-ring exchange on January 4 may have been the first sign Michaels could consider walking away at this year's WrestleMania.

"I remember way back when I first came to WWE and how we used to get along, and it was nice and it was pleasant. And to have that now is nice. I know for a lot of people it may seem strange, but for he and I it’s a nice place to be," Michaels said. "I look back on my return in 2002 and so many things have gone full circle, and to be where he and I are at now, it’s one of those things where you say, 'Man, second chances are really nice.' Everybody doesn’t always get them. You know me, I’m a little deep and a little goofy about that stuff, but it’s important. In a strange business and in a business that, heaven forbid, you show your heart, you’re going to be called a bunch of stuff and made fun of constantly, but for me, it was nice and it's a great place to be with him."

no spoilers:

WM was pretty boring again this year but I thought the three main events were pretty decent. Agreed that Jericho-Edge match should have been longer. Batista and Cena both are bad wrestlers but I thought they were as good as they'll ever be (which is still not that great). Though not as good as last year's match, the Taker-HBK match was another classic between the two.

I'm a complete and total Hitman fanboy, and I'll be the first to say that we shouldn't have been expecting a high caliber performance from him like from the good ol' days (especially considering the stroke he suffered)...but gawdayum that "match" between him and McMahon sucked.

^ I was hoping they would somehow get Earl Hebner back from TNA for this one match.

HBK's farewell was great on RAW tonight. It was great to hear that both Hart and Michaels have put the Montreal Screwjob in the past. Seems like they both sincerely, at the very least, respect each other now.
