――Since the beginning of this year, you’ve been increasingly busy with solo activities.
Do you have a different feeling from when you’re working as AKB48?

【Watanabe】The members are there when it’s AKB48, so it’s like, ‘We’re going to cooperate
and do one thing!’ but for solo stuff, I have to do it on my own so that increases the pressure.
I guess that part is quite different.

――This time, you’re debuting as a voice actress in an anime movie!

【Watanabe】Yes. I  had my doubts, but I was able to enjoy doing the voice over! I was nervous
though because there were professional voice actors around me.

――You worked together with voice actors you look up to, like Hanazawa Kana-san and Ono
Daisuke-san.

【Watanabe】Yes! They’re in my favorite anime, and I also look up to them as a person, so
I was really happy. I wasn’t able to meet them when we were doing the voice over, but it was
like a dream being able to work with them on the same project!!

――I read the movie’s script, and there are a lot of scenes that make your heart ache.

【Watanabe】There is indeed this bitter sweet impression of youth that makes your heart
ache. I felt it too. My heart was aching even while I was playing Natsuki-chan.

――Was there any advice from the director when you were doing the voice over?

【Watanabe】Not particularly. Oh, but I was told to ‘Act without over doing it,” so I made sure
it’d be natural.

――Do you have anything in common with Natsuki-chan?

【Watanabe】Maybe how I’m a little tsundere (laughs). But Natsuki-chan is athletic. I’m jealous
because sports aren’t really my thing.

――I thought the scene where Natsuki-chan fights with the student council was a highlight.
Natsuki-chan has a really good line.

【Watanabe】I agree! Natsuki’s line in that scene might be the theme of this movie in a way. But
this feeling of calling out to them was difficult to convey in the voice over process. And for me, the
scene where Natsuki-chan tells Kenji how she feels was memorable. It’s an important scene for
Natsuki-chan too.

――Before playing Natsuki-chan and after, was there any difference in how much you were invested in her?

【Watanabe】It was different. At first, I had an impression that she was a bright and full of energy,
but as I was doing the voice over, I came realize her inner feminine elements. At first glance, her
best friend Kahori looks girlier, but I felt like it was actually Natsuki-chan who is girlier. The relationship
between Natsuki-chan and Kenji is not being able to convey their feelings properly, and when you
first see it, it’s hectic. On the other hand, Kahori and Kyogoku’s has a smart feel and I think that’s
cool. But Natsuki-chan and Kenji grew up together, and I think it’s probably a situation that anyone
would yearn for.

――What do you do when you tell somebody how you feel?

【Watanabe】I don’t think I could. I might be bad at conveying, like Natsuki-chan (laughs).

――The theme song you sing, ‘Sayonara no Hashi’ is really heart breaking too and it seeps into your
heart. The part in the chorus where it goes, ‘I liked you’ was cry worthy.

【Watanabe】It’s a nostalgic, Showa-type of song. The lyrics are really close to how Natsuki-chan
feels in her one-sided love towards Kenji. So when I was recording, I thought of Natsuki-chan while I sang.

――The main characters are in 8th grade, but are there any feelings you can relate to from when
you were in middle school?

【Watanabe】I joined AKB48 when I was in 8th grade, the same age as Natsuki-chan and them.
The lessons were hard, but I think putting your all into something you love doing is probably the
same. Everyone was once a middle schooler, not the mention current middle school students, so
I think if you watch this movie, you’ll be able to have a bitter sweet experience together with
Natsuki-chan and them. I hope everyone can really get into this wonderful world and enjoy it.

Q：これまで何本かの作品で声優として出演はされていますが、ついに劇場版アニメーションでの主演ですね。プレッシャーは？
Q: until now you have already had some works as a voice actress where it was allowed you to act-playing (how to say in english? LOL) but finally you have been able to be the main character of animated movie adaptation. Is there pressure for you?

正直、不安はありました。アニメは大好きですし、声優さんのお仕事にも憧れてもいたので、自分にできるのかなって。でも、だからこそチャレンジしてみたい、と。声優さんの仕事もずっとやってみたかったことなので、こういう大きな作品に主演させていただけることに驚き、プレッシャーにも感じながら、このチャンスをいただいたことをすごく光栄に思いました。
M: honestly, there was insecurity. I love Anime and I also admire the job of a voice actress, so I also asked to myself if I could do it. But, it’s right for this reason it seems like a challege, I think. Because I always wanted to try the job of a voice actress, being been allowed to can be the main character for such a huge work/production it really surprised me, there’s also the feeling of pressure, but I really felt honored to got such a chance.

Q：渡辺さんのアニメに対する愛情は広く知られていますが、渡辺さんにとってアニメの魅力とは？
Q: Watanabe-san’s love towards Anime is widely known, but what’s the appeal/charm of Anime for Watanabe-san?

誰もが一度は子どもの頃に観てきていると思うんですよ、アニメって。すごくワクワクしながら。わたしの場合は、その延長線上でずっと好きなんです。ジャンル関係なく、何でも観ます。わたしにとってアニメは、今でもワクワクする気持ちを忘れないようにさせてくれるもの。小さい頃の気持ちを思い出させてくれる。この作品もまさにそういう作品です。甘酸っぱい恋模様も織り込んだ青春ものとしても楽しめるし、超能力といったSF的なエッセンスもある。いろんな要素が詰まっていて楽しい作品になっていると思います。それとアニメではキャラクターも大事。絵もかわいらしい。ナツキちゃんもすごくかわいいですよね。登場人物それぞれが魅力的であればあるほど、作品に引きつけられますから。
M: I think everyone in them childhood have seen an Anime once. While being so excited. In my case, about this argument I always have been loving them. Regardless of the genre, I watch everything. The thing which takes me about Anime, is that they don’t make me forget about the feeling of how to feel excited/nervous. They can remind you the feelings of when you was a child. And this work/production as well is exactly that kind of work/production. Ejoying the bittersweet love pattern which is incortporated as well, and I also said that there are “supernatural powers” as also a SF essence. Many elements are enchained and I think it’s a very enjoyable work/production. And then the characters in the anime are also very great. The design/illustration is so pretty. Natsuki-chan is very, very cute as well. Each character is really fashinating, and that’s why then you’re attracted to the work/production.





Q：本作はまさにそういう作品。演じられたナツキという女の子は、活発でいなから、すごく繊細な乙女心を持ったヒロインでした。
Q: this work is exactly that kind of work/production. The girl you play, called Natsuki, isn’t just an energetic/active girl, but she is a heroine with a very delicate girl’s mind/heart.

普段はどこにでもいるようなすごく元気な女の子なんですけど、物語が進むにつれてさまざまな思いが見えてくる。でも、ちゃんとその思いを伝えるべきときはちゃんと伝えられる強さを持っている。そういうところがカッコイイというか、すごく魅力的で。ちょっとツンデレなところもあったり。周りを明るくしてくれるような存在なので、わたしもこうなれたらいいなって思いました。運動神経が良いところもうらやましかったですね（笑）。
M: though she usually is a very energetic girl, as the plot develops you will see all her various thoughts and feeling. But, when that thoughts/feelings should be communicated then she convey/release her strenght. That’s what is attractive speaking about it, such a cool thing. She becomes also a little bit tsundere. Because she’s brightly/she’s surrounded by lights (?), I thoght it can be good if I could be like that as well. Being athletic it’s also a good thing, and I was envious of her (LOL).

Q：アニメの主人公として、すごく魅力的な存在ですよね。そんなナツキを演じる上で、大事にしたことは何ですか？
Q: being the main character of an Anime it’s also a charming precence. What’s the thing you have had to take care to, playing on a character as Natsuki?

ナツキが持っている繊細な部分ですね。ケンジくんという幼なじみのことをひそかに思っているナツキ。友人のカホリとの間で板挟みになって、その恋に揺れるナツキ。謎の転校生である京極くんの謎を知って悩むナツキ。いろんなナツキちゃんをちゃんと見せられるように気を付けました。わたし自身はそういう体験はしたことがないですけど、つらい思いしているんだなって演じていて、すごく胸が苦しくなりましたね。
M: Natsuki is getting the delicate part of herself. That chilhood friend of her, called Kenji-kun, she’s keeping a secret about him. She’s in a dilemma between Kahori’s friend and herself, she sway to that love. There’s also the mystery of the transferred student, Kyogoku-kun. In order to can understand his mystery, it makes Natsuki worried. I order to can be able to show to everyone various Natsuki-chan, I took care/I have been careful about the feelings. Thought my personal experience there’s never been, I have played embittered feelings as well, and my chest now really hurts.





Q：実際のアフレコは、共演者の方と一緒に？
Q: about the actual playing-work, with who do you co-starred? 

一人での収録でした。共演の皆さんはもう録（と）り終わっていたので、わたしが最後。ヘッドホンから流れてくる相手の声を聞きながら、それに合わせて。気持ちを合わせるのが難しかったですね。アフレコのときは映像も完成していなかったし。まだ色の付いていない線画ぐらいでしたから。でも、ナツキちゃんになりきって、ケンジくんやカホリ、京極くんと会話をしていることをイメージしました。ナツキちゃんが元気いっぱいキャラなので、時にはマイクに音を拾われないように気を付けながら、実際に体を動かしたりもしましたね（笑）。
M: it has been a recording alone. Because the people with who I co-star have already ended their recording-work, I was the last one. When I listened from the other end of the headphone where there were coming out the voice, then I could start to match (like to be on rhythm with the voice). The feeling I had about the matching is it was difficult. When I was playing-on that time, the footage/illostrations were also incomplete. Because the footage/illustrations were colored yet. But, I had the image for being able to become Natsuki-chan, and I had also the image of Kenji-kun and Kahori, and doing a conversation with Kyogoku-kun. Because Natsuki-chan is so an energetic character, while trying to let not to the microphone to catch the sound, I occasionally also moved my body together with her. (LOL)

Q：ナツキの繊細な心情を声だけで演じるのは難しかったのではないですか？
Q: acting/playing on Natsuki-chan’s delicate feelings only with the voice, it wasn’t difficult?

大変でした。でも、だからこそやりがいもありました。中村（亮介）監督からは、作り込まずに自然体で演じてほしいと言われたんです。だからわたしも自分の感情に素直に演じることを心掛けました。ほんとに喜怒哀楽、怒るシーンもあれば、泣くシーンもある。声だけで演じるということは、改めて大変だなって思いましたね。
M: it was very hard. But, for this reason there also were rewarding moments. The director Nakamura (Ryosuke) said me how to do it in a natural way while acting/playing on it. That’s why I also tried to be honest/obedient for my emotions in order to play it. They are very emotions, there’s also an angry-scene, and also a scene of crying! “Acting only with the voice, it has been again very hard”, I thought.





Q：今回は主題歌も担当されていますね
Q: this time you also take care of the theme song.

新しい経験でしたね。懐かしい雰囲気の歌謡曲って感じなんですけど、歌詞にケンジくんに片思いしているナツキの気持ちが反映されているようで、結構切ないです。
M: it was a new experience. Though it’s like a “popular song of nostalgic feeling”, in the lyrics are reflected Natsuki’s feelings about a one-sided-love towards Kenji-kun, so it’s quite painful.

Q：その曲のイメージ通り、実際の作品でのナツキもすごく感情豊かな女の子になっていたと思います。活発というところも、今までの渡辺さんにはないイメージなので新鮮でした。
Q: according to the song, I think Natsuki became a girl full of emotions as well, in the actual work. Also speaking about the “energetic thing”, ‘till now Watanabe-san hasn’t had an image because she was fresh.

そういう意味では今回の作品は新しい経験をさせてもらったと同時に、わたしのいろんな面が見せられたかな、と。ケンジくんとふざけ合ったりする和気あいあいとする普段の学校生活のシーンはほんとに楽しかったし。逆に今までやったことない難しいことにもチャレンジできたし。生徒会に反発するシーンは大変でした。ナツキちゃんが自分の意見を熱く語るんですけど、セリフが長いだけでなく、ちゃんと相手に訴えかけなければいけない。怒っているわけではなく、自分の気持ちをきちんと相手に届けることが大事で。そこはかなり悩みましたね。声だけで表現しなければならないので。でも、物語が魅力的なので楽しんで演じることができました。ごく普通の学園生活の中に謎めいた転校生がやって来る。そこからいろんな事件が起こって。まだアニメの絵ができていないのに、台本を読んでいるだけで引き込まれたぐらいですから。どこか懐かしくて不思議な気持ちを味わえる作品になっていると思うので、ぜひ多くの方に楽しんでほしいですね。
M: in this sense, for the work of this time I have been able to get a new experience, at the same time my various faces/aspects has been showed maybe. On the other hand I got a challenge for a difficult thing that I’ve never done until now. Natsuki-chan on her own opinions she exposes them with enthusiasm, but it’s not just for the dialogues, I also must to appeal to my parter(s) properly. It’s not just when they’re angry (the characters), because we have to send to the partner their own feelings properly/in a clear way. In that moments I was quite worried. Because it wa something it must have been expressed only with the voice. But because the story is so fashinating, I have been able to enjoy my acting/playing work. In the middle of the ordinary like of an ordinary school a mysteryous transfer student is coming. From this time various event will happen. I have been not able to drow a picture of the anime yet, I just have been able to read the script. Because to this work I’m tasting the mysteryous nostargic-feeling od somewhere, I would like that many people can enjoy this, please.





AKB48の中でも正統派アイドルとして知られる渡辺。「中学生の頃に淡い恋の体験は？」と尋ねると、「ないです！」ときっぱり返してくるあたりは、まさにプロのアイドル。なのに「ケンジくんと京極くん、どっちが好き？」と問うと、「京極くん。髪型が好き。ケンジくん、ごめんなさい！（笑）」と、アニメ好きの少女の顔を見せる。そんな渡辺の、アニメへの愛情が込められたこの映画をぜひ劇場で堪能してほしい。
She’s part of AKB48 but we know she’s like an orthodox idol, Watanabe. 「Around the time of Junior High School, were there some experiences of faint love?」we asked , 「no, there weren’t!」(← Of course! She has always being in love with Yuki….. I’m sorry! D:), she categorically replied, just a professional idol (← it’s not just that. She was already in love with Yuki, idiot!!!… omg, sorry for my intrusion!!! D:) And yet 「between Kenji-kun and Kyogu-kun, who do you like the most?」we asked, 「Kyogu-kun, I like his hairstyle. Kenji-kun, I’m sorry (LOL)」she replied showing the face of a girl-anime-lover. This Watanabe’s love for anime is what has been put in this work, please we would like you go to the theatre to enjoy it.

Just watched the Music Station. Mayu was great doing the fishing action whilst Miyuki was handshaking the presenter guy. Then it was so funny in UZA all the Mayuyu chants. Juuryoku Sympathy was amazing, its made my list of top performances of the year. I loved it so much

書くの遅くなってごめんなさい。
I’m sorry for this delay for writing.

11/2に、新チームAのウェイティング公演が無事に幕を開けました！
On November 2nd there was the debut for Team A’s Waiting theatre performance. It was a succesfully performance!

緊張や不安、色んな気持ちがありましたがメンバーみんなで力を合わせてステージを作り上げました。
Tension and anxiety, there were a lot of different feelings, but all together, working together, I completed the STAGE with all the other members.

とにかく楽しくて、最高の初日になりました！
However it was enjoyable, it became the best Shonichi!
やっぱり公演は楽しいなぁ、と改めて実感しました。
It made me realize again that, after all, theatre performance are very funny/enjoyable.


見に来てくださった皆様、ありがとうございました！
For everyone who came to see us, thank you very much!
皆さんの笑顔に出会えてしあわせです(^^)
It made me happy to met everyone’s smile(^^)

チームBからチームAへの異動が決まった時、最初は長年いたチームを離れるのは寂しいのでショックでし
が、今となってはこの異動があったから得た物がたくさんあります。
When it was decided the transfer from Team B to Team A, because I had to be separated by the Team I have been for so many years, I felt lonely and it was a shock for me, but at this time this decision is took and for this reason there are a lot of things we have to get.


新しい環境で、先輩や後輩、色んな方達から沢山の刺激を受けていきたいです。
Because there’s this new environment, seniors and juniors, I want to get many motivation/stimulus by everyone of them. 

現状に満足せずに、これからも、日々努力していきます！
I’m no longer satisfied with things as they are right now, from now on, I’ll do even more efforts/I’ll improve myself everyday!


新チームAが大好きです！
I love new Team A!

メンバーみんなで、たくさんの思い出を作りたいです(^^)今まであまり喋る機会が無かった子とも、仲良くなれますように♪
I want to create a lot of memories with all the members(^^)Until now there haven’t been so much opportunities to talk with youngers, in order to can get closer♪

Q - How did you two become close?

Watanabe -  Thanks to「Majisuka Gakuen 2」probably. Along the course of the drama a deep bond between Center (Matsui) and Nezumi (Watanabe) is created right?

Matsui - It’s really a deep bond… There is to wonder if they aren’t actually lovers! (laugh)
