Good Evening!! Today was "Ripopo"s last Team A performance. Ripopo, 8.9 months was really short period but thank you very much for all you have done!!! Ripopo is strange girl, having a very unique personality and because there is no type of girl like her in AKB, it was interesting  and fun. The time i spent with her is valuable!

Mayuyu’s Growth Realization,  Suddenly Was Able to Swim! “Konnichiwa Crawl”



The new song “Sayonara Crawl” is recorded as the 12th consecutive million seller. During the first week of release, it has sold 1,763,000 copies, the highest in history. The numbers are going to grow as the ballot counting for senbatsu sousenkyo on 6/8 is coming. Watanabe Mayu is one of the centers in this song that has 4 centers. “So long!” which was released on February, was the first time she became center, and from then the remarkable Mayuyu who has grown is now…!?

-When Watanabe Mayu-san sang “Sayonara Crawl”, could you already swim?

Me…? Since long ago I couldn’t swim at all. But, recently, I had a photo shoot in a pool for my photo book, and I suddenly knew how to swim.

-Something like that happened?

It happened (laughs)

-You suddenly were able to swim?

Yes. During that time, while the staff were helping me, I unexpectedly was able to swim when I did various things.

-Even though you couldn’t swim ever since you were a kid….?

I really didn’t know how to use my body to swim, and around elementary school and high school I could swim by kicking my feet, but after all I couldn’t do crawl (swimming) and butterfly strokes and so I just lived my student life that way.

-What did you swim during that photo shoot?

It’s crawl! (laughs)

-A person who couldn’t swim suddenly did a crawl!?

Yes, I did. My breathing still isn’t good, but I swam.

-How was swimming?

It felt good. It was my first crawl since I was born so it was really fun.

-Even so, why were you suddenly able to swim?

U~m. What is it….I originally am really bad at sports, but when I did it, I unexpectedly was able to, and so far I never naturally just did it and surprisingly when I did, I can do anything!? Was what I felt (laughs)

-When you joined AKB, it was good that you danced?

Ah, that’s right. There’s also that.

-The new song has 4 centers Oshima Yuko-san. Itano Tomomi-san and Shimazaki Haruka-san, right?

I also only knew of the quadruple center thing recently, but….(bitter smile). In the middle, there’s me and Paruru and to our left and right were Tomochin-san and Yuko-chan, who try their best to defend the middle.

-The two of you in the middle are the 19 year old combo right!?

Yes (laughs)

-You’re the same age as Paruru, but she’s your kouhai. Do you feel her growth?

The time we do activities together as a senbatsu member has increased, and day by day we do them while feeling like we’re growing.

-Do you become motivated when a person your age is next to you?

That’s right. Up until now there weren’t any senbatsu member my age, so it’s reassuring.

-I felt Watanabe-san’s self-awareness as center during the performance in Nippon Budoukan the other day.

(Embarrassingly) No, no….

-During that performance, did you once again feel the weight of being center?

Budoukan was the first concert since I centered “So long!”. Now, I understand the significance and pressure of standing in the middle of AKB, so I want to firmly try my best.

-Until the end, you remained on the stage to greet the fans, your appearance expressed the center’s awareness.

-Was that because of the center’s sense of responsibility?

There wasn’t a sense of “being remained”. In order to express my feelings of gratitude to all the fans that came, I really wanted to say “thank you” while facing each and everyone of them. In Budoukan there are guests 360 degrees around the stage, so when I was slowly turning around while saying my thanks, I became the last one.

-During that time, there wasn’t anyone else on stage, and it really only became Watanabe-san alone.

As always, I was absorbed by the fans and became the last one (to leave).

-In the Budoukan performance, it was announced that there would be a 5 big dome tour, which is a new target, right?

Last year during the Tokyo Dome performance, Maeda-san graduated. In the 5 big dome tour, it’s like we’re going back to Tokyo Dome since Maeda-san has graduated, like we’re going to be standing on that same stage. It’s been a year since then, we climbed over many things, and the “AKB now” has had changes that in order to be shown, each and one of the members have to challenge ourselves with all our might.

-It’s a big target, isn’t it?

It’s a really important concert. Right now, can we do it without problems? Those types of uneasiness are huge right now, but I want it to be successful by cooperating with the members.

-You want to show the AKB that has grown more than last year’s Tokyo Dome?

I want to show that. The sister group members have increased again, and there are new girls who are in concurrent positions, and so to be fit for the tour, we need team work and the members’ bonds with each other to be deeper.

-What do you think about the upcoming senbatsu sousenkyo?

I said “next year I want to be #1” during my speech l ast year. It has been a year, and I’ve put in a lot of effort regarding various things, I’d be happy if that comes into fruition.

-After the sousenkyo ends, what do you want to do?

I wonder….(After thinking for a while) I’ll sleep! First of all I want to sleep peacefully in my house.

-Is it okay if you don’t practice the crawl?

It’s been a while since that. I’ll practice when midsummer comes (laughs)

Sata asks if Mariko-sama has picked an oshimen, and she replies she hasn’t but if she were to pick one it’d be Kojipa. Sata and Kiyoto ask why and she replies “I always wonder if she’s motivated to do anything.” and she want to check. But Kojipa says she chose Mayuyu.

Speaking of these new Team Surprise uniforms, they are incredible. Seeing it sorta reminded of the U.S.S Vengeance from the new Star Trek movie. The whole black color scheme gives off an aura of rareness and uniqueness to the uniform.
