JAPANESE SWORDS TO BE BANNED
« Reply #1 on: January 12, 2006, 05:06:15 AM »
Although samurai swords are a trademark for Japanese culture, but if they are being use in this way, I think they should be banned. But they should also enforce more laws on weapon carrying and etc to make sure leser crimes will occur.

Although it is hard to do so, but hopefully we will see some progress going on. Not just in Japan, but around the world.

Banning is going a bit too far, IMO.  What they should do is have really stiff penalties (no warnings, just penalties) for anyone caught brandishing one as a weapon.  Or they could try doing a sword-registry (like gun-registry), though I doubt that would be that effective.

If you want them to stop carrying swords, legalize firearms :D.

Interesting. I guess they haven't banned swords here yet. Although there hasn't been any sword kills either. Stilettos, daggers and bayonets are banned and you can't carry any kind of knife in public places, if you don't need it in your work.

There's tons sold here as 'collector's items'.

Again, they're not all that worrisome considering the number of legal ways we have to kill someone already.

EDIT: Legal lethal items. Actually killing someone with them remains a no-no.

You can sell them in Canada easily...atleast in Ontario.  My friend bought a pair of Sais.  The only thing is they can't be sharp, they must be blunt.  If you sell them sharp, that's illegal.

I think it's mostly Taiwanese at fault because they think it's "cool" to use a Japanese sword in gang fights. I personally perfer a machete
