May have saved a man's life tonight.
« on: January 15, 2006, 06:27:14 PM »
I was in a bar with some friends tonight.

I was drinking, playing pool, and having a really great time.

Around 12am an old, has been drug dealer (50ish), and he got in a fight with a young drunk...

the drunk punched him in the mouth and he fell straight back onto the pavement...

He hit his head and immediately blood poured out of his skull.

I, without hesitation, ran to the guy and grabbed his head and wrapped my scarf around his head to slow down the bleeding

I stayed holding the man's bleeding head with a towel the bartender threw at me from inside as his eyes were open and he was breathing as if every breath was his last.

I sat there talking to the, seemingly, dying man asking him to "stay with me", "do your know where you are?", "can you hear me????"

I held him upright in the sleet and snow hitting me in the face as about 30 people looked on. I screamed! "HELP ! CALL 911"

only one guy moved JUST to call and stand over us like some sort of authority while telling me to "make sure his head is up!"

I didn't care if the guy's neck was broken and I moved it just as long as I could stop the bleeding...

that's how much blood dripped from his skull.

His blood ran down my wrist as FINALLY one of the bartenders ran out to help me hold cloth to his head.

Eventually the man came to and asked me where he was and if he got hit...

He then told me how old he was (fifty something I couldn't make out the 2nd number)

...and that he doesn't want to go back inside the bar because he looked shameful.

but he was in and out of consciousness and EVENTUALLY the police and EMS came to help him out and find out what had happened.

I was too shaken up to do anything but describe every detail to the police that i saw as articulately as I could. The police thanked me and the EMTs told me that I possibly saved the guy by stopping the bleeding.

and I GOT DRUNK with about 8 friends after that that told me I did the proper thing.

And that's GREAT...

BUT Honestly, it really kicked my ass... in that I stayed there for about 5 solid minutes in a wicked violent snow storm thinking a human being was going to die in my arms.

ughhh...  :(

Oh damn. That's not a story you hear everyday. Sucks that no one helped you though, wtf was up with that? Apathy is at a rather high number these days, I think..

Some of the people were probably in shock about what was happening too and couldn't budge, but it's awesome that you did that!! If you weren't there, I wonder if anyone WOULD take authority of the situation.

I have to say, congradulations on taking action the way that you did.  By the sound of it, if you weren't there to do it, no one else would have done anything and the guy would have probably bled to death.  Good on you for keeping your wits about you ushi!

ushi, you did something excellent that not much others can do.
Think about it, if you weren't the one to help him, probably no one else will do and he would of died due to excessive blood loss.

Great job, I admire you!!!
