Chapter 9
The Chase 2Once again, Risa was at the pavilion. She had deliberately got up earlier this time round, hoping to catch the Princess on her
daily walk again. Of course, she did not miss out that important piece of information.
And sure enough, the Princess came by but seems to be searching around for something. Gorgeous it may be with the morning sunlight on her, Risa decided to put up a protective barrier just right above to shield snow white from the heat and the damaging elements of the sun, only allowing the slightly dimmed filtered light to shine on her. It was not long before Ai noted the different and finally, those emeralds found her bluish purple orbs. The rewarding smile Risa got from her made all the waiting worth while.
“Have you seen Reina?” the princess asked casually.
Risa pouted. “I was
just about to ask if Ai-chan had seen Eri too”
Ai just giggled at how easy the girl would switch from a perfect gentleman into a spoiled brat just within seconds.
Then, there it was again. Rustling sounds from that same bunch of bushes. As the two eyed each other knowingly, they waited.
As Ai expected, this time, the white fur ball was after the black cotton ball instead.
Her kitten was so disorientated that she unconsciously had opened the link between them and was seeking help from her in despair unknowingly. The raven girl got this tingling feeling while on her way here but could not really convey what it really was since her kitten was actually bombarding her with nothing but desperate meowing subconsciously hence she was unable to get her exact position.
She was searching frantically for her at first but when she got into the garden ground and felt the air for her kitten’s presence. Almost immediately, she picked up her kitten’s purplish aura and was being pursued by nothing but a stunning slivery one. Knowing that it could be nothing serious, the raven girl carried on with the rest of the search in leisure and just constantly sends out her positioning to the kitten.
The black kitten ran straight up to her master, while transforming to her semi-human self and hid timidly behind her while the pup chose to hop onto Risa’s lap before changing.
Her kitten was shook up so bad that whatever she was trying to tell her came out in nothing but a babbling mess.
“Reina…slow down. You’re okay now. What’s wrong?” Ai hugged the trembling kitten tightly, stroking her back to calm her down.
“That bitch! She killed Aika! I saw it with my own eyes! Look at the blood dripping from her mouth! I knew she was up to no good at all…acting innocent and all…trying to get close to me!” Reina was sobbing uncontrollably and was depending solely on her master to hold her up.
Risa, unaffected by those senseless screaming, just gently wiped those red stains off the side of her pup’s mouth. Eri eyed her sadly and was about to say something but she cuts her off with a finger to her lip. Eri who is even incapable of harming a little fly had murdered something? She did not even need her pup to explain anything. Kissing her pup on the forehead, she smiled to reassure the pup.
“You are up to no good too!” Reina sneered at Risa
“Reina?” came a husky voice that broke the commotions.
Upon hearing that voice, the kitten turned her head swiftly towards it.
“AIKA! I thought you were…dead?” the kitten looked confusingly at her
With an equally confusing look, Aika replied “I was? I only remembered falling from the tree and…AH!” running toward Eri, she hugged the girl.
“Eri here stopped the bleeding and healed my leg.” Releasing Eri, Aika finished the rest of the sentence.
And that was it. Case closed.
“Reina…” Ai loosens her hold on the kitten to pull back enough to look her in the eye. She was not upset with the feline. She knew how harsh the feline can be to others but her kitten is actually nothing but a big meanie with a super jello heart. You just need to get pass the meanie part first though.
“I’m sorry, Ai-chan” Reina looked down as she apologized
“Nana...” Ai uses the pet name to get her kitten’s attention
“Not me…” she then tilts her head towards the two occupants in the pavilion.
Reina turned her head to the mentioned two and then back to her master with a pleading look. Ai just chose to smile encouragingly at her kitten. When it comes to Ai, there is really nothing much Reina can do about it. She just knew where all her soft spots are and uses it to coax her into anything. With that, Reina just entrusted her fate to her master as she circled her arms around Ai’s neck and buried her face in the crook of her neck.
Ai grinned as she shook her head slightly. Even though she had already resolved her kitten’s willfulness, she is still not going down without the last struggle. This is her kitten…her Reina. With that, she scoped Reina up, carrying her bridal style to the pavilion.
Up until now, three sets of eyes had been just enjoying the interesting little show.
Sitting across Risa, Ai pets the top of Reina’s head. “We’re ready whenever you are”
Still unable to face them, Reina murmured something desperately into Ai’s neck and tightens her hold on her.
“Hmm… Yes Reina…I know…I love you too.” Ai replied while kissing her kitten’s head lovingly and raised an eyebrow when she saw Risa pouted again.
With the final squeeze, Reina finally turns her head sharply to the other two and stood up.
“I’m…S…sorry!!” after managing to choked the apology out, she ran away like there is no tomorrow.
“What’s wrong with her?” Aika finally speaks up. She was lost, anyway…was she even found to begin with?
“It’s nothing… Go to Koharu-chan…She is probably wondering where you have been to by now.”
“Oh right! I’ll see you then your Highness.” And she left, looking for her master.
“Sorry… I might have spoilt Reina too much” Ai finally sighed.
“No worries…I understand how that feels” Risa replied as she stroke her pup’s hair. Eri currently had her face buried in the crook of her neck.
“You feeling okay?” the brunette girl scratches her pup on the back of her neck, under the collar.
Pulling back, her pup nodded sadly. Eri did not know why but even the words from her master could not lift her heavy heart.
“I’m going after Reina”
“Hmmm…Okay…Don’t get yourself hurt. You know how to get me when you need me.” Risa eyed her pup worryingly before agreeing. With that, the pup ran off in the direction where the kitten took off to.
The pair that was left behind watched the pup swiftly cut through the vast greenery and was soon out of their line of vision.
Turning their attention back into the pavilion, both coincidentally sighed in unison. Eying each other with a raised eyebrow, a grin slowly forms simultaneously and finally, both synchronically falls into a fit of laughter.
It felt good to finally loosen the tension. The morning had just started but it felt as if it was hit by a whirlwind of events.
“Her aura is really beautiful. The Sliver Glow of Cura isn’t it?” After letting a deep breath out, Ai commented.
“So mine is not?” Risa pouted and wiped the tear out of her eyes as if she was crying sadly.
“You know that is not what I have meant and you can’t really compare them this way.” Ai replied with an as a matter of fact tone and knows that the girl knew it.
“But definitely the most passionate yet mysterious Crimson Blaze of Fira” the raven continued and finish off with a smile.
“So…I’m hot?” Risa wriggled her eyebrow as she speaks
“You’re incorrigible.” the girl rolled her eyes
“You know… you might be doing that
just a too much for a Princess~” the younger girl emphasized the word with a slightly higher pitch.
“And
just. who might be the cause of it?” Ai chose to pause a short while at that word instead.
“Anyway, you have yet to answer me. Don’t change the topic!”
“Over my dead body”
“Hmmmm…Sooo……I’ll be hot if I’m over your dead body?”
“WHATEVER” the girl sighed as she waved her hands frustratingly in the air once. The other just giggled at the cute reaction she had gotten from the girl.
With that, they fall into their usual silent again but this time with one grinning and the other frowning and looking away but Risa could faintly detect the corner of those lips were actually tilting slightly upwards.
After a short while, sighing again, Ai taps her own lap lightly before standing up to leave.
Risa just sat there stupidly, watching as the Princess walked further and further away, her grin, falling bit by bit.
“You coming or not?” Ai turned back with a smirked and a raised eyebrow at the girl’s dejected look.
She did not need to be told twice. Risa immediately jogs over and joined the Princess by the side.
“What’s up with you and rain?”
“Shouldn’t I be the one asking you that?” Risa mused
This time, it was Ai who was putting up the show. It was nothing fancifully like what brunette girl had, nevertheless, Risa was still grinning like a love-struck girl. Ai simply just had a barrier around the both of them.
“Sorry, nothing special”
“Your presence itself is more than enough.”
With that, Ai sweetly laced her fingers through Risa’s.
Together, they walked silently, listening to the light tapping of the rain on their, what Risa is currently naming it,
Ai barrier.
Ai was pretty amazed that the younger girl was able to lead the way to the waterfall in this maze of greenery effortlessly only after being brought once. It once again shows how delicate the brunette was.
Sitting under the same tree again, the raven girl leans back comfortably and rested her hands on those that were gently wrapped around her waist from the back. Together, they just gazed at the water that was gushing down from the clifftop.
The rain was really pouring heavily and the wind was picking up at a rapid rate. Even though well protected by the barrier, Ai could still mildly feels the cold passing through a little and gave an involuntary shiver. After living in the Ice Palace for all her life, she was still unable to get use to the low temperature here. Right away, she felt the arms around her tighten and held her closer to its owner body, instantly warming up hers a little. She smiled at how sweetly the girl was.
Not long after, she realized that the body holding onto her was actually burning at a considerably higher temperature than normal. Immediately, she turned around and placed a hand on the burning forehead while eyeing the girl worryingly.
“You are hot!” the older girl exclaimed concernedly
“Finally you admitted it.” the younger girl nonchalantly replied with a smirk as she removed the hand from her forehead and held it gently in hers.
“THAT IS NOT WHAT I MEANT~ You are having a high fever! Let get back.” The girl attempted to stand up but with a light tug, she landed right back on the brunette’s lap, facing her. Then, she felt a warm hand circled around her waist and the other around her neck, pulling her close again. Slightly taken aback, Ai was about to question the girl when she felt the sudden temperature change from the girl again. The temperature was now slightly below normal but was slowly creeping up to a higher temperature than earlier on before dropping back to normal again.
It was then that she finally realized that Risa had deliberately altered her body temperature to accommodate hers. How stupid of her to have not thought of that. Of course the girl was able to do so. She is the master of fire and heat.
Realizing how silly she might have seen to the girl, she just buried her blushing face softly into the girl’s shoulder.
“Thanks anyway…” the brunette say softly by her red pointed ear with a warm smile.
Again, the temperature starts to creep up and remains at a comfortable warmth. Mused by the fact that younger girl had gone to such length just to make her feel at ease, Ai snuggled contently into her new warm pack.
They were falling to yet another serene silent when a soft and sincere voice was whispered by the Princess’s pointed ears again.
“
My Love has the most angelic White Light of Purity I have ever seen.”
Even though the Princess did not reply her verbally, Risa could feel a smile forming on her neck as the pointed ear reddens again. Unable to resist, Risa gave a light peck to the flushing ear, causing the girl to shiver a little but definitely not due to the cold this time. Knowingly, the brunette lowered her temperature to allow the raven girl to cool down a little before rising back up once again.
Together with their eyes closed, they take in the pleasant natural orchestra playing around them in warmth.
