Her "honest" apology mentioned nothing about her actually quitting smoking. It just stated she was trying to be mature by smoking, but recognizes she is immature (she is). In general not something I feel is very convincing. Apologies are fair enough, but it won't cut it until she states smoking is actually bad for your health and environment, and not really helpful for a singer, and that she will quit it permanently. Because otherwise it's just carefully constructed messages with no substance. And I can't say it's a pretty image either, for an idol to be doing drugs.
A few blurbs from some random forum on smoking:
"...the closest I came to quitting, was I went 3 days, and by the 3rd day my migraine was so bad I broke down and bought a pack, the way I got that far was by sitting down and meditating for 5-10 minutes instead of taking a smoke break or smoking at home"
reply: "In your case, you shold welcome the migraine that comes as a sign that you are detoxing from the nicotine. The pain of a migraine now will be nothing compared to the cancer, emphysema, and so on you will experience later on."
"first off i would just say that giving up nicotine is WAY WAY harder than caffeine. i have met heroin addicts who have come off the heroin but can't get off the cigarettes. many of them. i have also heard a number of doctors agree that nicotine and heroin are comparable drugs in terms of addictive pull. of course the difference is that heroin involves a life of crime and the withdrawal is on another level, and with nicotine of course you can continue to be a good capitalist citizen and work etc, so heroin appears to be much worse, but in terms of psychological compulsion to use they are comparable. i once read about a man in hospital who had had both legs and arms amputated due to smoking related diseases and still he was using a metal clamp strapped to his shoulder to stick a cig in his mouth. so don't underestimate what you are doing."
"Tobacco and I are mortal enemies, as it basically killed my mother and maimed my father (oral cancer ain't pretty)."
"Tobacco is the second major cause of death in the world. It is currently responsible for the death of one in ten adults worldwide (about 5 million deaths each year). If current smoking patterns continue, it will cause some 10 million deaths each year by 2020. Half the people that smoke today -that is about 650 million people- will eventually be killed by tobacco." -- Quote from WHO (World Health Organization, branch of the UN).
In any case, I hope all of this will be a distant memory soon, but it has changed things, especially the image of Kago, who in my opinion is not the "cutesy aibon" anymore. That image is long gone burried in some foggy graveyard in a mountain somewhere... Now, Nakazawa should join Tsuji in W, and wear burikko clothing and they could re-do Robokiss with Nakazawa and Tsuji bouncing around. That would be a very good start.
