Never used either but from what I've read for performance Eee 1000H's atom > the HP 2133's VIA processor. Plus the HP is preloaded with Vista which probably lowers performance big time.

They should, as long as the video and sub file are in the same folder and have the same filename (except for the AVI/SRT/ASS file endings).

If the subs don't show up, click on the VIDEO menu on VLC and make sure that the subtitle file is checked/selected.

Not really a problem but...

I still have my old wireless router which still works. Is it possible to use it like some kind of wireless bridge?

You can use it as as signal repeater though to extend your wireless signal.

mine doesn't have a manual.

And d-link site sucks, doesn't even load most of the time.

I don't think mine can do it anyways, even if it's possible with other ones.

Not really a problem but a question... does anyone know of a free video splitter/cutter thing that's better than 'Boilsoft video splitter' coz of I had enough it being temperamental.

I just use virtualdubmod. It's not the most user friendly thing but it works pretty well.

So... my Firefox frequently clogs up when I load up Facebook and/or MySpace. Is this due to:

1) Firefox (I already did that bloated cache "trick")

2) Inadequate system resources (e.g. not enough RAM), or

3) Both?

Another guy keeps telling me to wipe clean my hard drive and "start over." Which I would do except I'm too damn lazy to reinstall all eleventy-jillion programs and plug-ins.

When Firefox "freezes" it is usually caused by a plugin not functioning correctly. Try updating your plugins.

If you have Firefox 3, go to Tools > Add-ons > Plugins. There you can see which plugins are installed and what version they are. Plugins can also be disabled there.

If you think Flash is causing the problems, try something like Flashblock to block all Flash. In block mode it allows you to point and click to start the Flash applets you want to start.

Just a quick question. Do VHS have region codes? Can I play an American tape on my European VCR?

There are no region codes on VHS tapes. The only big compatibility issue is the TV system used: PAL (Europe) vs NTSC (America), and they are not compatible. Dual system VCRs exist, check your VCR manual.

Yeah, in the uk you can't play ntsc tapes on older vcr's, but more and more newer vcr's were able to play them so check the manual, or see if you know anyone who has an ntsc tape that you can test in your vcr.

^ Its not just the VCR that counts, if the VCR outputs NTSC (3.x or 4.x) when playing NTSC then your TV also needs to understand NTSC.
If the VCR outputs 50Hz NTSC ('modified PAL', NTSC is 60Hz) then your TV also needs to understand that.
So... its not 100% sure you can see it if your VCR can play it

Also there is a small (4%) difference in frames/s so there will be a difference in total length played between pure NTSC and PAL.

I knew about that but didn't think it worth mentioning since all tv's now are probably capable of displaying it - I have a vcr that plays ntsc and a tv (since broken) was was bought some time in the early 80's had no problem displaying the picture.
