The youtube account for the ‘Debt Repayment Idol project’ recently uploaded all of the past episodes of
Margarine Bank, including footage of Saemi’s audition. Skip to about 4:17
So awkward, as usual.
I also noticed that
OneMasu’s writers, Suzuki Koumuten and Sato Toshiaki, were sitting alongside Maccoi and Okubo at the judge’s table, so it looks like
OneMasu’s main creative staff are on board with this project. I guess that makes this the official follow-up to the Ebisu Muscats. They recently announced the members and the group’s name -
The Margarines. The composition of the group is pretty wacky - along with the normal young ‘idol’ types, there’s a girl from Germany, a 30-year-old who owes ¥100 million, an accomplished dancer who Okubo and co. are constantly calling fat and ugly (her nickname is ‘Suubuu’ - which is ‘busu’ (ugly) in reverse), and a 22-year old with two kids. You get the impression that the whole thing is just a huge joke - their manager is a dude in a luchador mask, after all. I actually feel kinda bad for anyone hoping for this to be a launchpad to a bigger showbiz career. Okubo even joked at the press conference that she expects three of of them to eventually go into AV

But we’ll see where this goes. The Muscats were assembled under a similarly jokey premise (Basically a parody of
Onyanko-club with porn stars and low-level gravure idols, but mainly porn stars) and they went on to be relatively successful. The Margarines have already got a single in the works as well as a concert date in December.

BTW, does anyone know of a place that’s posting new episodes of Mui's radio show? The most recent one I could find was the July show with Yuma and Saemi. It seems like people just stopped keeping track of it, which is a shame since the conversations are always really fun and lively.
