For those not in the know, Shou Nishino and Ai Sayama both do this weekly internet radio show thing where they talk rather honestly about sex, their AV lifestyle, and of course, the Muscats. A viewer called in this week asking a question which I thought would be interesting to share here:

His question was during last weekend's Muscats concert, the members for the unit songs were decided by lottery (both Shou-chan and Ai-chan did Go Go Purukawa), so he was wondering what unit song they would like to appear in? Both Ai-chan and Shou-chan answered that they wanted to try Ebisu Rotary sisters (the unit consisting of Rio and Yuma, Rina Rukawa and Saemi Shinohara got chosen to do Ebisu Rotary at the concert). Ai-chan said she was the back dancer for Ebisu Rotary sisters' "ma yo naka no 2ji Ebisu" at Yaon out door concert last year, so she said she knows the dance well. Shou-chan said since she is part of Purukawa and had done Herakuresu several times during their mini concert trip, so she would really like to try Ebisu Rotary sisters as well. Shou-chan said she was suppose to be a back dancer for Ebisu Rotary sisters at Yaon as well, but she broke her foot and could not perform (Risa Kasumi served as her replacement). They then asked Kazu-san what unit he would like to see Shou-chan and Ai-chan appear in? and he said he wanted to see Purugon, so he was happy that Ai-chan got to do Purukawa. Ai-chan then said that she couldn't quite fit into Purusae's costume, so she left the zipper at the back unzipped and she had to put tape at the back to prevent the costume from falling down. She said the other members made fun of her during second session of concert (note, the concert was divided into two sessions with about half of the members at each session, both Shou-chan and Ai-chan appeared in the first session), she said it is not nice to say bad things behind people's back. Shou-chan said that Hana Haruna also could not fit into her Purushou costume during second session of concert and they made fun of it by saying it is because Shou-chan has no boobs. Shou-chan said she actually watched the second session live, she was standing at the very back of the live house along with Kaho Kasumi, Rina Rukawa and Minori Hatsune. She said she yelled "shout up" when they made fun of her, but the members on stage didn't hear her, but the fans around Shou-chan got a good laugh out of it. She then said that even though people like to make fun of her boobs, she said she has D-cup (really?). She said that she and Natsumi Horiguchi (another girl from Prime Agency) are the exact opposite when it comes to their ideal breast size. Shou-chan said she loves big breast and Natsumi loves girl with no breast, so they often talk about hoping to be each other. Shou-chan then said that her cosplay friends told her that in the world of cosplay, B-cup would be considered big boobs, C-cup would be huge boobs and D-cup would be gundam

After reading that transcript, I got a little giddy when I read the last part about Shou mentioning her cosplay friends as she was a pretty popular cosplayer (she looked awesome in most of the costumes she wore).  The fact that Shou did some very nice cosplays kinda stirred some internet controversy since people found it hard to believe that an AV star could pull off some amazing cosplay.  I have to say that the point about bust size in cosplay is pretty much fact.  Some cosplays can look good on girls with only a B-cup or C-cup.  Speaking of bust size, I wouldn't doubt that Hana Haruna and Ai Sayama would have a difficult time getting into the Purukawa outfits since they were designed for the not-so-busty members.  Hell, the both of them could be their own sub-unit (probably along with Nanako Kodama) for those with a 90+ cm bust.

Which also raises another aspect of the Muscats that I think about. The fact that not only have a good number of the ladies filmed AV's where they watch the other getting screwed in front of them (e.g. Rio/Yuma, Aino/Jessica) but that an even more select few have filmed full on ladylovin scenes with each other (Asami/Shou or Kaho/Minori). It's like every idol fans fantasy and yet for these girls it's part of the job description

A somewhat scandalous position of the hand there.  I think with a few "substances", Sola and Jessica could go from down to party to DTF (as they say in Jersey).  I have to say that a job where getting paid for doing something you'd see in a club after chicks get hammered couldn't be any more perfect.

I've also done some thinking myself.  I was trying to think of the Western equivalent of AV and gravure.  Well probably as far as AV goes, porn is porn no matter where you are.  This probably sounds like a whole nother topic but I just wanted to put that out there.

A Western Ebisu Muscats? Hmmmm. I would say girls like Stoya or Evelyn Lin could definately even have a shot at being in the real Ebisu Muscats, they're that cute. But other than some famous names (Sasha Grey, Asa Akira) I can't think of anyone else. And from what I see, the majority of Western pornstars are just ridiculously shot up with plastic surgery that they're just not appealing at all.

The Western equivalent of gravure, to me at least, comes from British glamour models. Now there's a group I'd like to see! Rosie Jones, Lacey Banghard, Lucy Pinder, Rhian Sugden, Danica Thrall, Sabine J, Sophie Howard, Holly Peers, India Reynolds....one thing's for sure, they would also find it hard to fit into the Purukawa costumes!

Heh, I never really had thought about it in that way but it does sound pretty interesting.  I remember doing a Google search on Jeremy Lin and somehow one of the top results was about Evelyn Lin.  Unfortunately, the idea probably might not fly since it'd be hard to imagine (or maybe hard to take seriously) that some of these ladies have other talents besides what they do in front of cameras.

- Rina Rukawa is the central figure for the new song right?

Shou: until now, we have never had a central figure concept for our songs, all we had was members in different rows like first row or second row. When I found out that Rina-chan was the main focus of the new song, I wasn't surprised at all. After watching the PV, I felt like we have found a brand new Muscats and that Muscats have so much more potential and possibilities. Rina-chan is so cute and she deserves to be the central figure.

- would you like to become central figure one day?

Shou: no no, I am not suited for the central role, if we go back to be in rows, I would feel more comfortable at the edge (flank) of first row

- how do you feel about the new costume?

Shou: everyone was given a big ribbon to put on their hair, but I felt embarrassed to wear it during poster shooting, so I did not wear it. However, after looking at the pictures after the poster shoot, I thought it is really cute to have the ribbon on, so I wore it for the actual PV.

- what do you think of the new PV?

Shou: I think it fits the Muscats image and that it is well done. It is not just cute, but also fun at the same time, it is like we just can't stop fooling around. Actually there was a scene where we were allowed to do whatever we want, it was really fun during the PV shoot.

- what is your goal for the new CD

Shou: I want to make our fans proud, so I would hope the song can reach #7 on Oricon's weekly chart surpassing that of Banana Mango High School. Banana Mango High School was like a dream come true for all the members and it showed us the possibilities we had.

- last time, when Honey Trap failed to reach #7 on Oricon chart, there was a punishment game at a ghost house right?

Shou: yeah, it was really tough, it was so scary (tears), I also felt really bad for the members that were forced to ride the roller coaster. However, it was fun for all Muscats' members to go film away from the studio, it will become good memories (laugh)

- tell us the highlight of the new song?

Shou: there are more solo lines from different members, so it will be fun to hear solo from members that rarely sings

- btw, do you have any "oya fukou" episode? (oya fukou means to disobey parent)

Shou: when I was young, I wanted my mother to lose weight, so I secretly ate or threw away some of my mother's hidden sweets. Mother, I am sorry

Saemi: I was really nervous because I am not used to it, but the set and costume were really cute and I really liked the ribbon we wore on our hair, I was really happy about the PV shoot.

- what was your impression on the polka dot costume this time?

Saemi: there are blue, red and black, really colorful, they are all so cute

- your last song Honey Trap did not reach the goal of #7 on the Oricon chart, what is your goal for this song?

Saemi: Honey Trap came in #13, so my goal is for Oya Fukou Baby to reach top 10 of Oricon chart. I don't want to set the bar too high, so it would be tough to reach, so I picked one that we can possibly reach.

- last time when Honey Trap failed to reach the goal, you guys had to go through a punishment game and some members were forced to ride the roller coaster right?

Saemi: I can't ride any kind of roller coaster even the small ones since I am acrophobic.

- please tell us the highlight of the new song?

Saemi: the gap between the seriousness at the beginning of the song to the fun loving part later on

- can you tell us a "oya fukou" episode?

Saemi: when my mother asked me to go do shopping for her, I went and bought the things I want not what she told me to buy, does this count?

- it count for sure, tell us more about it?

Saemi: my mother asked me to go buy some curry cubes, but I argued with her that I think stew is better. Then I said "okay, I will go buy it for you", but I went and bought stew cubes instead. When I got home, my mother was like "why did you buy this!".

Today is the long anticipated release day of Oya Fukou Baby, so we are pleased to have the first ever central figure for Ebisu Muscats, Rina Rukawa. We asked her about the new song and what it is like to be the central figure.

- can you tell us what it is like to be the central figure?

Rina: when I found out that I would be the main focus point, I was so nervous, but I tried not to think too much about it and just try to enjoy it as much as I can. If you think too much then you would be like "what should I do as centre?" or "I must do something special", then it would put extra pressure on yourself, so I thought to myself "I would just treat it the same way as before just like any other song and just enjoy it" and I was able to enjoy it.

- even though you said you want to treat it the same way as before, but what was it like to be up front and centre?

Rina: I guess it provides the best position for us to see all the fans clearly. Even though I am the central figure this time, but I think many other members will get to experience it in the future, so I must do my best so that the staff would not ditch the centre idea for next song (laugh)

- what do you think of the PV

Rina: everyone was so cute, I really liked the set and costume, I really enjoyed it. There was story along with lots of fun part in it, I think it is a real fun PV.

- what is your goal for the song? since you are the central figure, would you like to set the standard high?

Rina: hmm, let me think, I guess the lucky #5! (note, 5 is considered a lucky number in Japan where as 4 is considered unlucky because it sounds exactly the same as death), actually no, let's make it #3!

- last time when you guys failed to reach the goal that was set, there was a punishment game where you had to stay one night at a ghost house right?

Rina: the shooting was a lot of fun, I was able to get to know all the members better, but it was really scary though.

- you got to ride the roller coaster, was it fun (smirk)

Rina: it was not fun at all! (anger), I was so scared that I couldn't open my eyes, but the wind blowing on my face forced my eyes open (tears). I thought I was going to die the whole time, it was worst than the ghost house.

- then let's make the next punishment game roller coaster ride

Rina: I have had enough of it already!

- please tell us the highlight of the new song?

Rina: there are a lot of times during the song where there are chorus, so it would be fun for the fans to listen to the song many times, so they can join in on the singing during concerts, which will be really exciting.

- finally, as the title of the song suggests, do you have any "oya fukou" episodes

Rina: when I was a student, the lunch box that my mother makes for me is always filled with meat, so my lunch always look brown, which I really didn't like because it is not cute at all. Therefore, I always gave them away to my friends. Mother, I am sorry for not eating the lunch that you took time out to make for me.

Yeah, I think the only other cosplay AVs I've seen her in were a sentai movie produced by GIGA and another one where she dressed up in a handful of costumes, one of which was Haruhi Suzumiya.

Also, thanks for putting up these transcripts.  It really shows a more personal side for some of the members.  The "oya fukou" moments from the Purukawa trio were a nice read although they seem pretty innocent.

And to top off this post, I'll just follow-up on that last pic I posted.  I probably could be posting pics and stuff from the members' blogs but I don't really visit their blogs a whole lot.

^ Thank you for putting me in a Shou Nishino phase! Didn't know anything about this other side of her until now, it's awesome.

Here's a funny, Muscats related moment from Ai and Shou's radio show. To explain, a viewer calls into the show and it's a female high schooler who Shou is completely enamoured with from the very beginning because her voice is really cute. I believe Shou even compares it to Rin Sakuragi's voice on the scale of cuteness. After she and Ai fangirl over her voice for a while Shou asks the caller what her favourite Muscats song is, to which she replies it's Chocolate. So Shou gets an idea and makes a request for the caller to finish a line from the song on her cue. So Shou sings 'One, Two, Three...' and the caller responds with 'Tokimeite' just like in the song (also rather apt considering that Rin Sakuragi was the one to say this line in the song). After hearing it Shou goes..well.....completely moe over it You can jump to 4:30 to see that part, it's great The whole thing is worth watching, especially for an imprompt Kawaii Koushien battle between the three of them afterwards

it's great to see on this forum fans push forward the other Muscats that aren't given enough time on Onedari to show off their personality.  I've bumped into some of shou's cosplay pics but didn't know her history with it.  nice pics.

And yeah, I really don't dig Rina right about now. After all the interviews and Twitter retweets I read, I pieced together that her personality outside the camera isn't that inviting. Yeah she has the smile and the look cute enough to give me a heart attack, but looks mean nothing if it's all a facade. Besides, is Rina Rukawa her real name??

So I dig Saemi probably more than anybody. Her personality outside the camera isn't without problems but it's not as bad as what I read about Rina. All she needs is to find her inner self, especially when gravure and the Ebisu Muscats are giving her second thoughts. And you don't have to worry if she's cute or not because oh hell yes she's cute as a button

Well no, but then neither is most of the Muscats in fairness. Rio's certainly isn't, she's had 2 already. Nor is Acky's. I'm pretty sure Jessica's isn't real either. If your claim to fame is AV, chances are you're using a stage name.

Congratulations to Nanako for being one of the finalists to appear in Yakuza 5. Following on in Yuma and Rio's footsteps, she'll be promoting the game through television appearances as well as have her own digital representation in the game (though apparently, not as a hostess this time but as an actual character)

Some of the Muscats were in Akihabara on Sunday for the 20th anniversary of Young Animal magazine. Rio, Yuma Asami, Aino Kishi, Rina Rukawa, Minori Hatsune, Jessica Kizaki, Asami Ogawa, Ai Sayama, Haruka Ogura and Airi Nagasaku were there for an hour long concert for the fans and broadcast out to the internet.
