A Utah woman used Google Maps' walking directions on her Blackberry and was given directions to walk onto a highway. She got hit and is now suing Google for damages.

Google may settle just to avoid litigation.  But then, they could draw it into a trial and make her run up a legal bill that breaks her.

What the fuck. I read about this earlier, and... yeah. Google maps even has a warning saying that walking directions are in Beta. But she just cleverly ignored that. NEED TO GET TO WHERE I'M GOING~~~ How dumb can you get? Aaaah.

This reminds me how in Australia ebc's folks were testing this navigator, they entered a street name and we ended up in the middle of nowhere to some closed street or sth. I don't think ebc was with us then though.

I think this news story could prove to remind us how over reliant on technology we've become. Technology is, and always has been, a blessing but before we go to that well too often, we also need to realize that it is not the answer to every problem, and it does not obviate the need for common business sense. Would we even be able to support ourselves should all technology be stripped from the world one day?

I don't believe it is illegal, though I'm hard pressed to remember seeing people on a highway here. It's just something you don't do, for safety reasons. Apparently this woman didn't get the memo

It's illegal to walk (and ride bicycles!) on highways here in Norway at least (same in Sweden and Denmark). And I guess this proves that it should be illegal elsewhere too? XDD;
