Chelsea 0 - 0 Manchester Utd (Chelsea win 1-0 at extra time)

:( Well, that's football I guess. In what was an otherwise entirely forgettable game, Chelsea win at at the last minutes with a bit of brilliance from Drogba. I think this game highlighted the fact that both teams were actually running on empty after fighting on all fronts. Can you imagine what it would be like if both were in the Champions League on Wed? Ah well. It's now officially the end of the season for us and I couldn't be more pleased with the team.

Unlucky on that one...though as you probably know I'm not exactly disappointed. No fan of Chelsea but they are the team I'd rather have won, still I can't exactly feel happy about it either. I actually gave up on the match in the second half and only saw about 10 minutes of it as it wasn't exactly the most inspiring match to watch. I don't think there would have been too many complaints whichever way the match had gone as from what I saw it was fairly even.

Bayern Munich have agreed to sell Owen Hargreaves to Manchester United.

Club president Franz Beckenbauer told German TV: "Owen is leaving. That was the player's wish. It's a good match and it's also a good deal financially."

Beckenbauer said the transfer fee was "around" £17m - which would be a record for a Bundesliga player.

Finally! There's that rumour done and dusted! We'll have to wait and see just what formation Ferguson will adopt. At the minute I think a 4-3-3 may work best, but we know Fergie likes the 4-5-1 (look how well that worked out yesterday). Of course, if we get a new striker, the formation may change yet again, and certain players could be left out. This signing suggests Owen could be the long-term replacement for Scholes.

I could be proven wrong, but I reckon that's a poor buy on Man Utd's part. Hargreaves has certainly been both hero and zero in his England career but I believe even when he was the hero he wasn't that fantastic, yes he was our best player, but that didn't take much. What I have seen of him at Bayern (though admitedly is quite little) didn't exactly wow me either. I could be wrong, but personally I'd be gutted if Liverpool bought him at all, nevermind for £17million.

^ Now it's not fair to judge English players based on their national performance! :P Everyone knows they play much better for their respective clubs than in internationals. Look at Rooney. Hasn't scored for England since 2004 (I think), yet he's one of our top goalscorers this season.

Hargreaves will make United a lot more difficult to beat.

This season United have struggled against the big teams. It could be due to the fact that they have been largely anonymous in midfield. Against the smaller sides it is possible to have the game plan of all out attack. Against the bigger sides you have defensive duties which are not adequately met by Fletcher, Carrick and Scholes. With Hargreaves it will be possible to stop the likes of AC and Arsenal from playing.

People have said what a waste of money Carrick was as well. One season, one Premiership winners medal? Seems like a pretty good average for me. With Hargreaves beside/behind him, guarding the back 4, and with that awkward first season under his belt, Carrick will really shine now, relax and play to his strengths.

I think Hargreaves will be a leading star in EPL

Hargreaves was England's best player by far in the 2006 world cup (and playing a fair bit of right back). 17 mil is a bit steep, but the good thing is that he seems as though he geniunely wants to play for us (And not get stolen by Chelsea). I'm expecting Giggs to play a much lesser role next year and I have my doubts on whether Scholes will return next year (no evidence, just a feeling I have), he's the type to try to go out in his terms rather than being pushed out when his boy can't cope anymore.

Another point is that for Munich, he've actually line-up on the left wing a few times and looked very capable out there (thought he game I saw was when he was against Becks, so...), I really don't think he'll be that much worse than Gerrald playing on the right wing if he is deployed there (Gerrald is a super player - that's wasted on the right and wasted for England because of Fat Lampard). If fat Lampard is valued at 20 mil +, then 17 mil is decent enough.

As Tuffty had mentioned, it'll be interesting to see what kind of formation we put out next season. The 4-2-3-1 formation worked wonders for us in the premiership, especially when Rooney is played as one of the attacking midfielders/supporting strikers rather than as the out-and-out striker (I thought he's much more effective when Saha or Smith is the starting line-up). We used more of a 4-5-1 against Milan and in the FA cup final partly because we didn't trust Brown or O'Shea and need a runner in Fletcher to help them out - but to me, our players stuggled in the 4-5-1. I guess it would depend on who we get as our new forward (we better get one!) And I hope we get a more traditional no.9 type like Huntaleer rather than a Tevez type for balance. That way, it would free Rooney and allowing him to do his work deeper and receive the ball on the flanks and get behind the defender.

An interesting transfer gossip target is Viduka, while he's 31 and lumbering, he's very good with his back to goal and is great in releasing the runners from midfield. In the world cup, Australia played 3-4-2-1 or a 4-2-3-1 and while he didn't score, he created a lot of opportunities for his attacking midfielders, so he might be very handy against the Europeans teams that plays a much slower tempo. And he's on a free transfer so he'll be good insurance on the bench and he did chip in with 19 goals in all comps last year. I would be really happy if we get Darren Bent or Huntalaar and have him as insurance (presuming someone will take Saha off our books).

Right now, I'm not too optimistic about getting Etoo or Torres, if we do, it would be at an ridiculous price anyway. Even if we sell Heinze, I think we're fine with our backs, I really look forward to see whether Evans or Simpson can break into our first team. I'm very high on Evans, I think he's a much better player than O'Shea and Brown right now. And we still have to figure out what to do with Pique, who's doing really well in Spain (and I suspect he would want to stay there).

I'll also like to see Foster taking over from Van Der Sar, Foster is clearly a talented keeper, if Van Der Sar is willing to take a more backseat role and help develop him, than he might be pushing for Robinson's spot in a few years. Rossi is another loanee who has done really well at Parma, if we keep him, maybe we can develop him into a scholes-like player as I see a lot of similarities between them - smiliar statue/built, great technically, good vision and passing, and remember Scholes starting out as a forward before becoming a star midfielder.

Giggs and Scholes have clearly struggled in the last 3-4 weeks of the campaign, so I hope they play a far smaller role next year. I definitely think it would be a much tighter contest next year in the premiership and I think we actually have a lot of talent youngsters on our payroll and hopefully we'll see them develop and erasing the likes of Richardson from our first team sheet all together - (Robson has a job! Maybe he'll bid for Richardson because he likes him so much - we can always hope.)

^ Some very interesting points you've raised there. I forgot all about Evans and Simpson until you mentioned them. From what I saw in international matches, Evans does a good job for us in N.Ireland. I'd like to see him play more often. Rossi is someone who I'd also like to see back. Doing a fairly good job at Parma from what I hear. We also have Dong Fangzhou if the worst comes to the worst, but we've hardly seen enough of him in any given match to know what his strengths and weaknesses are. It would be sad to see Heinze go, I do really like him, but I suppose he might not have been the same since his knee injury.

I was wondering if we would need Kuszczak now with Foster and Van Der Sar, but rumours have it, that we could put him on loan to...take a guess....that's right, SUNDERLAND!

In other news, the rumours of us being linked to Steve Sidwell can now come to an end. He's committed career suicide, but gotten rich quick by joining Chelski.

So Champions League Final is tonight, the last football match before the almost agonising drought of the summer. So who will be the winner? I hear Benitez will be looking at his notes from Istanbul for help. If they're along the lines of 'Give the ball to Gerrard and pray', I'll be worried about how enjoyable this match may be for the neutrals. I do hope Milan win. The media is going on about how great it would be for an English club to win it, and would show how the Premiership is the best league in the world, but I don't share that opinion. Regardless of who would be playing against the Scousers, I'd be cheering them on. :D

it'd be nice to see Milan winning it since they played very well throughout the whole CL tourney. Of course i'm happy if Gerrard leads Pool to victory as i'm a fan of him.

With what Tuffty and ew has summarised Man U's next season probable squad, i really like the look of it. It's such a nice balance between youth and experience. I do also agree that Rossi should come back, primarily because he needs the experience in playing in a physical league like EPL. I hope to see him shine in 1-2 years time when he gets used to EPL.

Foster is 110% coming home after his phenomenal season sans the overhead robinsons's goal XD and a blunder against west ham. He will keep VDS on his toes and take over when VDS needs rest or gets injured.

However i don't see how heargreaves could fit into the team right now. I ain't seeing it but SAF seems to so i'll stick with his decision as he seldom fails us, the fans ;D

Milan were a much better side when they played against us. Pool were the superior side but they rarely threatened. Too cautious perhaps? Ah well, that's football. The team that plays the best football doesn't necessarily win it. I bet Fergie must be drinking merrily tonight.

I'm not too much of a Platini supporter, but I did like it when Milan had to recieve the trophy up the stairs. It's vintage, and I agree with him in that recieving the trophy in the middle of the pitch is kind of, showbiz-esque and a little bit Americanised.

Well, I'm glad that Liverpool lost simply because they put out that ridiculous six-defenders formation in the first half. While it effectively rubbed out Kaka's influence in the first half, you almost rely sole on four players to get your goals. Gerrald played out of his skin tonight, as did Pennant, but there just isn't even bodies in the attacking third to mount clear scoring chances. They had a few half chances from outside the penalty area but that's really about it. And it was quite clear that Kuyt and Pennant were pretty much spent from all the work they put in during the first half.

Milan didn't play well at all and I have no doubts that Liverpool would have a better chance of winning if they had a second striker, or freed up Alonso more in the first half as Maldini had one of his worst games.

I thought Pool played very well in the 1st half (that's all i managed to watch)

Milan's possession i'm sure was less than 30%, Gatusso getting booked, Kaka not getting past the midfield. And then it had to happen, Pippo came and disturb the party ;D The deflected free kick was like a slap that came out of nowhere.

Anyway congrats to Milan for winning the CL, congrats to Maldini as well.

^ Could be a mistake on our part. We may yet sign him, but depending on his performance, he'll certainly be worth more than £8mil

In other news, Steve McClown has put David Beckham back into the England squad
