Ch. 16: Kaboom
The house was deathly silent when the lover’s entered after work one day; usually when they came in, the rest of the family was enjoying some show or another on the television in the living room, but not today. “Hmm, seems like only Papa is home.” Risa said cautiously, observing his shoes at the doorway.
They made their way into the apartment, Risa peeking through the kitchen doorway to find her father sitting at the table with a displeased look on his face, “Risa, I would like to speak to you. Now.” She pulled back to share a look with Reina, indicating silently that she should probably escape while she could.
Creeping into the kitchen, the bean stood nervously, awaiting her father’s next words. Without delay, he pulled a box from where it had been sitting next to his feet and slammed it on the table. Immediately, Risa’s face flamed, “Where did you get that?!”
“Your room. Would you care to explain how it got there?” The ‘it’ in question was a very large, pink strap on sex toy, complete with unopened box.
“I, it’s mine!” Risa shrieked, lunging forward to grab the object, “I bought it, so I kept it in my room! Why were you going through my stuff anyway?!”
“Because I’m your father!” He roared, standing up and banging his hands on the table, “And you have been completely unruly since-”
“Since when??! Since Reina came to stay with us?!” Risa screamed back, clutching her prize to her chest, “Just because I won’t submit to your every whim when it comes to her, you think that gives you the right to search my room?!”
“That girl is a bad influence over you! I want you to quit seeing her!” He commanded and Risa shook her head fiercely.
“Never. Besides, if anyone’s the bad influence, it’s me! She didn’t even know about this and she would probably blush when I suggest it. If Reina’s anything, she’s my savior, because she’s finally given me something worth fighting you over!” Risa voice lowered to a cold anger as she glared at her father. “I’m out of here and I’m taking Reina with me.”
Without another word, Risa turned and stormed from the kitchen, “Niigaki Risa, if you walk out of that door, you’ll be grounded for the next six months!” her father called out after her, but she didn’t even pause, just ran, Reina trailing behind her and snagging their shoes from the entranceway.
She ran all the way to the street before she stopped, panting slightly in exertion; Reina wasn’t far behind her, quite a bit more winded. It took her a moment of standing on the warm pavement for Risa to realize she was barefoot, having neglected to put her sandals on before she left, though she still clutched the troublesome box to her chest.
When she finally caught her breath, Reina bent down and laid the bean’s shoes at her feet, standing back up to stomp her own boots back on fully. Risa smiled gratefully and slipped her sandals on, taking the yankii’s hand in her own as they began to walk down the street. It didn’t take them long to make their way into a familiar park and to a well known picnic table. They sat side by side, still holding hands.
“I guess it’s time for me to move out, huh?” Reina stated the obvious as Risa gave her a guilty look, “No, it’s okay, I was kind of expecting it sooner or later. What was it you were fighting over anyway?”
The bean handed over the box, watching her lover’s eyes widen and her face turn pink, “I wanted it to be a surprise.” Risa sulked.
“I, uh, I’m definitely surprised.” Reina stuttered, “Is this my ‘bad influence?’” she inquired ironically.
“Oh, you heard that?” The bean said, lowering her head, “Look, I’m really sorry-” she started, only to be cut off when Reina waved her hand.
“Don’t apologize for someone else.” The yankii instructed, reaching into her pocket and pulling out a single key, “This is the key to my new apartment in Tokyo.”
“What? New apartment?” Risa took the gift gingerly.
“Yes, something Aika said to me a few months ago made me start looking and I finally bought this one three days ago. I was going to surprise you with it over dinner, maybe invite you over for a slumber party.” The yankii grinned weakly.
“Well, I’m definitely surprised.” Risa mimicked, “Let’s head there before we miss the last train. Is it furnished?”
“Uh, no. I wasn’t expecting to move out quite so soon, so we’ll have to get a futon or something to sleep on tonight.” Reina shrugged at her lover‘s look, “Yeah, I know, but just for tonight.”
