Japanese high school students are less motivated than their peers in the United States, China and South Korea to improve their marks, develop relationships or do anything constructive in their daily lives, a survey showed.

Japan used to have the highest (or one of the highest) motivated students, especially in high school, and now even the US beats them!? shocking.

wow... never know about that... i keep thinking that those high school students work super hard coz they want to get good grades in order to get into good universities...

Kinda knew about this.

From almost all kinds of schools in Japan, even in universities, there's quite a huge pile of delinquents and people who don't give a fuck.

But hey, teenagers. It happens. Like with me. It happens.

I am actually not very surprised. Look at the growing number of hikikomori and young people who just want to work part-time in Japan. It may have to do with the disillusionment that it's not as simple as it used to be. You can get good grades all the way through and still end up without a (secure) job.
