Chapter 19

“No, Sensei, you can’t do that!”

“Oh, come on, Gaki-san, don’t I get some say in this?”

“But you don’t know what you’re doing!  I’m telling you this from experience!”

   “Please, Gaki-san?”

“No means no, so stop touching me!”  Risa took a step away from her teacher who had had her hand on her shoulders.  “I’m going to tell you now, Sensei: stainless steel is the best thing for kitchen utensils these days!”

Takahashi-sensei pouted as she muttered something incoherent under her breath.  Risa sighed as she just shook her head at the teacher’s immaturity.

“But I want the cute porcelain ones,” Ai complained, pointing at the white pot with pink flowers painted on it, set on the table.

“Fashion isn’t exactly a luxury that can be given while cooking,” Risa sighed, “It’s something provided after cooking.  And for a beginner like you, a stainless steel pot is the safest thing.”

“… Fine,” the teacher finally said, dropping her crossed arms.  “I guess they are a little cheaper too.  And I’m on a budget.”

“Exactly,” the bean smiled.  “Now let’s get this checked out and move onto the next store.  Did you get everything you need?”

“Well, the stainless steel pot comes with the other utensils that I needed as a set, and I got the other stuff…. So I think I’m set,” Ai said, tapping her finger to her chin.

“Okay, let’s pay before the cashier line gets longer,” Risa said before she dashed to the register.

Ai followed lazily behind and stood next to her student silently as her companion did all the talking.  All she did was take out her credit card, swipe, and put it back in.  After the items were checked out, Risa grabbed a hold of the large plastic bag and marched out of the store.  Ai quickly followed behind and reached for the load, but the bean shook her head and stepped aside.

“It’s okay, Sensei, I’ll carry it,” she said.

“Are you sure, Gaki-san?” the older woman asked worriedly.  “You’re doing me a lot of favors today, I feel kind of bad…”

“Don’t feel bad; I’m the one who volunteered,” Risa said firmly.  She didn’t really want to hear her teacher refer to herself as “bad” again.  Such a simple word from Takahashi-sensei’s lips seemed to make it carry a whole different meaning.

“You really are like a parent, Gaki-san,” Ai laughed.  “An annoying nagging mother that teenagers groan about.  I think our roles are switched in terms of age right now.”

“It’s because of my mom,” Risa mumbled.  “She’s always responsible and stuff so I guess I just kind of picked it up from her.  Plus, with Eri as my best friend, someone needs to be the responsible one.”

“Your mother sounds very kind,” the teacher chuckled.  “And I know what you mean about Kamei.  But I think you’re just overly mature, Gaki-san.  Be a kid and live it up for once.”

“Don’t teachers usually tell their students to play after graduating and study while you can?” Risa asked, raising an eyebrow.

“With you, I think I should just say everything opposite of what I usually say to my students,” Takahashi-sensei grinned.  “Don’t study too hard Gaki-san; you need to take care of your health first.”

“Thanks for the concern, Takahashi-sensei,” Risa said, smiling a little.  “But I study because I like it.  So you don’t need to worry about me.”

“No child likes studying, not even you, Gaki-san,” Ai accused, narrowing her eyes.  “You’re lying to me.”

“Why would I do that?” Risa said, raising her eyebrows.

“You tell me,” the teacher grinned.  “Maybe that’s your secret that I need to dig into.  But for now, we better hurry up and get going.  I have one more place I need to go to and it looks like it’s going to rain soon.”

The two women swiftly made their way to the nearest grocery shop and got a cart.  The teacher made her way through the aisle with her student pushing the cart right behind her because, of course, Risa had insisted.  The older woman basically picked off every kind of canned food there was in the racks, starting from instant meatballs and soup to canned fruits and beans.  This made Risa smile to herself; the teacher really didn’t know how to cook, did she?  But it wasn’t very healthy to live on instant food all the time…

But surprisingly, Takahashi-sensei made her way to the vegetable and fruit section next.  She walked around for a while, and picked off a couple greens from the cool racks.  The bean raised an eyebrow.

“I thought you didn’t know how to cook, Sensei,” she said.

“I don’t,” Ai admitted.  “But eating that bento of yours today made me feel a little embarrassed, to be honest.  I feel like I should still try.  I look at some books and experiment or something.”

She turned around and flashed a shy smile at the student.  Risa blushed quickly and looked away just as fast.

“D-don’t burn down the kitchen or anything…” she muttered, trying to hide the effect of the teacher’s smile on her.

“I won’t,” Ai laughed.  She picked off a couple more greens before making her way back to the aisles to look for more ingredients.  She picked off a couple things again and continued on to the cash register where Risa closely followed behind.

“What exactly are you trying to make, Sensei?” the bean asked while placing the items on the assembly line.

“I feel up to monjayaki today, I think,” Ai said, turning a little red.  “It seems simple enough, so I think I can manage.”

“Ah!  Monjayaki daisuki desu!” Risa exclaimed with a big smile.  “I’m really good at making it too, but I make it in a special way.  I’ll make some for you next time, Sensei.”

“I’d really like that,” Ai laughed, thinking about how innocent her student was in the end, even though she always acts mature.

After checking out all the groceries, the teacher and the student walked out of the store with their hands full of plastic bags.  But something stopped them before they even stepped outside.

“How did it start raining so hard already?” Ai remarked, yelling a little to be heard over the heavy pour of rain.

“I didn’t know the weather was going to be this bad…” Risa mumbled.  She knew her way around downtown pretty well, but she had never gone grocery shopping here.  So she wasn’t exactly sure how to get to the bus stop from her current location.

“I guess we went a little too into town,” Ai sighed.  “I’m sorry, Gaki-san.  I wonder if you can find your way back… You certainly can’t walk home in this weather; you should take the bus or the subway.  Do you know which route?”

“Don’t worry about me, Sensei, I can take care of myself.”  Was it route seventeen or seventy?  Or maybe it was thirty… Well, I’m in trouble.

“No, I think the weather is just too bad right now,” Ai said, shaking her head.  “I can’t send you home like this.  My house is a little nearer then yours, so you can stop by for a while.”

Did she just invite me to her home? Risa thought, her eyes widening.  Well, she’s a teacher; she worries about her students all the time.  I guess it doesn’t really have a special meaning or anything.  Not like I want there to be a special meaning.  But it’s true that I can’t really get home from here…

“It’s not that far, but the rain is heavy so we’ll have to run,” the teacher said, looking up into the dark sky.  “Just run behind me, okay, Gaki-san?”

   “Okay,” Risa answered.

   “Ready… now!”

Right on cue, the two women ran into the rain and down the street while clutching on to the plastic bags in their hands.  After a couple minutes, they entered an apartment complex and ran straight into the first building.  Ai pressed the elevator button to go up as Risa breathed heavily beside her.  They staggered into the elevator together and finally took a breath, but only after pressing the button for the tenth floor.

“Deep breaths, Gaki-san,” the teacher wheezed.

“You’re not the one to be speaking, Sensei,” Risa huffed back.

   “Touché,” the teacher chuckled.

With the clear “ding” or the elevator, the two women reached the front door of the teacher’s home.  Ai used a key to open the door and quickly walked in.  She dropped the groceries right by the front door after taking off her shoes.  She quickly ran into the house and went into a room while Risa started to observe her surroundings.  The apartment was pretty small, but big enough for one person.  The living room was stretched out to the left while the joint kitchen-dining room was located on the right.  Everything was pretty empty except for the basic furniture; there were no pictures or decorations yet.

Then, the teacher emerged from the room she had disappeared into with a towel slung over her arms.  She quickly unfolded it and placed it around the bean’s shoulders.

“You can drop the groceries,” she said.  “I got a bath running right now, so you can go in when it’s full enough.”

“I’m really okay, Sensei,” Risa said.  “I don’t need to take a bath.”

“You will not get sick on me, Gaki-san,” Takahahshi-sensei scolded while grinning.  “Besides, you still have school tomorrow.  I’ll dry your uniform while you take a bath, okay?  And then we can have dinner together.”

   “But I’m really—”

“No ‘buts’.  You.  Bathroom.  In.  Now.”

With that, the teacher dragged her student across the short hall and pushed her into the first room.  Risa stared at the closed door for a while before sighing.  If she walked out right now, Sensei was only going to push her right back in.  And she was getting kind of cold so a hot batch didn’t sound too bad.  And the last sentence about dinner from her teacher had kind of caught her attention.

Reaching a decision, the bean quickly stripped down and left her wet uniform in a pile by the door.  She then slowly sunk her body into the hot bath after turning the water off.  She sighed contently as stretched her sore muscles.  How long was she going to stay here?  Probably after the rain stops.  But her teacher had already invited her to dinner so she would probably leave after the monjayaki.  She was kind of worried about Sensei’s cooking though…

   “Gaki-san, I’m coming in.”

   “Wait, what?”

Risa covered the front of her body with her arms as her teacher walked right into the bathroom.  But her body was immersed in the water so it wasn’t visible anyway.  But Risa still felt conscious; she was naked while she and her teacher were in the same room!

“No need to feel shy, Gaki-san,” Ai chuckled.  “We’re both girls here.”

“Uh… girls,” Risa nodded.  “Um, right.  Yeah.  Totally.”  She’s right, so why am I feeling embarrassed?  I’ve seen Kameha naked bunch of times in onsens…

“I just came into get your uniform,” the older woman explained, picking up the pile of wet clothes from the tiled floor.  In its place, she put down a set of white wardrobe.  “These are my old clothes.  You can wear these when you come out.  Don’t stay in too long; you’ll get dizzy.”

“Okay,” Risa squeaked, her mouth dangerously close enough to the water to blow bubbles.

Ai smiled before walking out of the bathroom and closing the door behind her.  Risa’s tense body finally relaxed again as she sighed.

That teacher is going to be the death of me one day, she thought.  She could still feel her face burning.  She turned on some cold water and splashed some on her face.  It helped a little bit.

The bean stayed in for a couple more minutes before she stepped out of the tub.  She dried herself quickly and picked up the white clothing from the floor.  It was a pair of light gray sweats with a white button pajama shirt.  She put them on and breathed in the scent from the sleeves; it had the same natural scent that her teacher had.  She blushed a little.

I’m seriously becoming a pervert, Risa thought, sighing.

She ruffled her short hair with a towel to dry it before a loud noise interrupted her from outside.  It was the quick beeping of the fire alarm going off.  Risa gasped as she ran out of the bathroom and into the kitchen.  Ai was spraying mists of water at the stove, which was fuming with gray smoke now, with a fire extinguisher.  The beeping soon stopped and Ai coughed while waving the smoke away.

“Could you please open the window for me, Gaki-san?” she asked.

“What happened, Sensei?” the bean demanded while being obedient to her teacher.

“I, uh… I guess I didn’t control the fire as well as I thought I did?” she said, laughing nervously.

“No offense, Sensei,” Risa started slowly, “but I think it’ll be better if you don’t cook for a while.”

“None taken,” the older woman smiled weakly, “because I agree.”

“Look, how about I make dinner tonight?” Risa suggested.  “I’m here anyway, I might as well make myself useful.  I can make my special monjayaki.”

“I guess that’s the best way, huh?” Takahashi-sensei grinned.  “Do you mind if I watch?”

“Not at all.”  Yes, I do mind.  I can’t concentrate if you look at me!

With that, Risa went right to work.  She took out a large bowl and a spoon; she poured some flour and water into the bowl to start making the batter.  She added some chopped vegetables along the way and continued mixing.  She could feel her teacher watching her from behind by the table.  Not exactly a comfortable position.

“So… Sensei…” the bean said slowly, “um… what happened to my uniform?”

“Oh, it’s in the dryer right now,” the teacher reassured.  “You don’t need to worry about anything, Gaki-san.”

“Okay,” Risa mumbled.  She felt way too nervous with her teacher watching her like that.  What was wrong with herself today?  She was usually a composed girl but today, she seemed to fall apart left and right.  And all she did was just spend the day with her teacher…

Trying to get rid of the awkward feeling, Risa started to chop some more vegetables furiously.  But somewhere along the way, she missed a beat of her knife work, nicking her finger in the process.

“ITAI!” she yelled out, dropping the knife.

“Gaki-san, are you okay?” Ai said in a panic, rushing to the younger girl.

“I- I’m fine, Sensei,” Risa reassured.  I knew I was getting too nervous…

“You should be more careful!” the older woman scolded.  She looked at the inured finger that was bleeding now from the cut made near the fingertips.  “You can’t leave it like that.”

Without warning, Ai brought Risa’s finger to her mouth and licked the wound clean by sucking on it.  Risa blushed furiously but her teacher didn’t notice; she was too busy trying to remember where she put the first aid kit.  The bean’s face only turned redder and redder as she felt each swish of Ai’s tongue, running across her finger.  Eventually, the teacher backed away and dropped the student’s hand.

“I’ll go find some band-aid,” she announced, disappearing into her bedroom.  She was back in less than a minute with a band-aid stuck to her hand.  She peeled it off and wrapped it around Risa’s injured finger; all the while, the bean stared down at her feet in an attempt to hide her burning face.

“There, that should do it,” Ai sighed contently.  “You are not cooking anymore, young lady.”

“Well, who’s going to cook then?” Risa asked, still focusing her stare on the floor.

“I will,” Ai answered.  “But you’re going to help me.”

The teacher went to the counter and took a hold of the knife and started to slowly chop away at the vegetables.

“Am I doing it right?” she asked.

“Yeah,” Risa nodded, standing behind her teacher.  “But don’t dice it too much.”

So with their slow and tiring yet continuing teamwork, the teacher and the student was able to make the monjayaki dinner together.  Risa had instructed Takahashi-sensei with her own recipe of just pouring the juices over the batter on the frying pan instead of making a well.  She also told her to add broken pieces of senbe, cheese, and rice cakes..

“Are you sure this is right?” Ai asked, raising an eyebrow.  “I didn’t know you make monjayaki this way…”

“Trust me, Sensei,” the bean reassured.  “It tastes way better like this.  Niigaki style is truly the best!”

“Okay, I’m leaving this up to you, then,” the teacher said, smiling.  “I hope the taste will live up to the effort.”

It took a little longer than it had to, what with Risa’s constant orders and Ai’s inability to follow them, but soon enough, the monjayaki dinner was finished.  Takahashi-sensei placed the frying pan in the middle of the table and started to scourge for some plates and utensils.  Risa just helped herself to a seat, realizing there was nothing more she could do.  Ai soon came back with two pairs of chopsticks and two plates.

“Sorry, I didn’t buy spatulas yet,” the teacher apologized.

“It’s okay.  With Niigaki monjayaki, it’s way better to eat it with chopsticks,” Risa reassured, grinning.

“Well then, let’s taste this Niigaki monjayaki and see what’s so special about it,” Ai laughed.

With her chopsticks, the older woman helped herself to some of the sizzling monjayaki on the frying pan.  She blew on it a couple times before taking the food into her mouth.  Risa watched intently as Ai chewed a couple times and swallowed.

“Dou desu ka?” the bean asked in a low voice.  “How is it?”

   “O…”

   “O…?”

   “Hon…”

   “Ho… un?”

“Hon~tou ni oishii!” Ai exclaimed.  “It tastes delicious!  I never knew you could make monjayaki like this!  Yabai, chou oishii!”

“Maa, Sensei!  You scared me there for a second!” Risa whined, letting out a deep sigh of relief.

“Gomen, gomen!” the teacher laughed.  “But it does taste amazing.  You’re a very talented girl, Gaki-san.”

“Well, you did all the work, Sensei,” Risa mumbled, scratching her head.  “All I did was talk.”

“We did a good job, then,” Ai smiled.  “Now let’s eat our dinner before it gets cold!”

So the two women dug into the delicious Niigaki-style monjayaki and finished it together in the matter of minutes.  By the time they were through with the dishes, it was already nearing nine o’clock.

“It’s getting pretty late, Sensei,” Risa said, looking out the veranda into the dark night.  “I think I should get home soon.”

“But it’s still raining pretty hard,” Ai said.  “I don’t feel right sending you home in this weather, Gaki-san.  It’s not safe.”

“But what other choice do I have?”

“… If you find my apartment accommodating enough, you’re welcome to stay the night,” Ai offered, smiling kindly.  “I can call your mother up for you too.”

She can’t be serious, Risa thought, her eyes widening.  Oh wait a minute, she really isn’t serious.  This doesn’t mean anything to her; it’s just her being worried for me as a teacher.  Not like I want it to mean anything so it’s cool that it doesn’t mean anything because she really doesn’t mean anything even though I thought it meant something— Okay, now I’m just confusing myself; hold it together, Risa!

“I don’t think you’re mother would be too angry, would she?” Ai asked, interrupting the little bean’s chain of thoughts.  “I’m sure she wouldn’t want you out in this weather at this time either.”

“No, she probably wouldn’t mind…” the student mumbled.  “Um, may I use the phone?”

   “Sure, help yourself.”

The bean swept past her teacher in the living room and towards the phone on the small table near the sofa.  She dialed her home and waited until a familiar voice picked up.

   “Moshi-moshi?”

   “Mama?”

“Risa, is that you?” the voice on the other line yelled.  “Where are you right now?  It’s not like you to stay out so late.”

“I’m sorry,” the bean apologized.  “I was helping my homeroom teacher with a couple things after school.  Then it started raining really hard so I’m at her house right now.”

“Is this the new teacher that you were talking about before?”

   “Yeah, that’s her.”

“I thought you didn’t like her?” Risa’s mother said, a smile in her voice.

“She…” Risa lowered her voice into a whisper and covered her mouth with her hands.  “She’s not that bad.”

At this point, Ai was already by the bean’s side, grinning.  She motioned for the phone and Risa obliged.

“Hello, Mrs. Niigaki?” the teacher spoke eloquently.  “I’m Takahashi Ai, Niigaki’s homeroom teacher.  Yes, I just moved in so your daughter was helping me find my way around town.  I’m very grateful to her.  I apologize for worrying you… Yes, your daughter made an excellent dinner for the both of us… Yes, you don’t have to worry about anything, Mrs. Niigaki, I’ll make sure she gets up bright and early for school tomorrow… Yes, thank you, I apologize for all the inconvenience… She’s no problem at all, please don’t worry… Yes, have a good night.”

Ai hung up the phone and turned to face her student, who was staring intently at her face.

“Your mother seems kind,” the older woman commented.  “She trusts you a lot.”

“I’m an independent type,” Risa shrugged.

“But you’re not as mature as I thought you are, Gaki-san,” Ai grinned narrowing her eyes.  “Your mother says to do whatever I need to do to get you up in the morning, even roll you off the bed, because you ignore whatever alarm that goes off in the house.”

“I’m a heavy sleeper,” the bean muttered.

“Right,” Ai laughed.  “Well, I’m guess I’m going to start being the responsible adult here.  I’ll go bring out a futon for you; it’s better to sleep in the living room or you’ll be cramped in my bedroom.  Meanwhile, I want you to finish whatever homework you have.”

“Do I get an excuse for history homework?” Risa asked hopefully.

“Gaki-san, do I ever give an exception to homework?” Ai smiled innocently.  “Remember: it’s a zero if you miss homework, and no make-ups.”

“Sometimes, I think you’re a little too tough, even for me,” Risa muttered.”

“I’m being fair, not tough,” the teacher grinned.  “You better get started if you want to go to bed early tonight.”

And so, the two women went on with their own business.  Risa found a comfortable position to curl up in on the couch and started to do her homework as fast as she could.  Ai went hunting for the futon that was still packed away in a box along with other blankets and pillows.  She dragged them out to the living room and spread them out neatly across the floor.  Risa looked up and watched her teacher setting up her bed for the night.  She thought for a moment before speaking up.

   “Sensei?”

   “Hm?”

“Do you still think you’re a bad person?”

“… Are we going to start with that talk again?”  Ai got on her feet and looked up with a sad smile.  “You really are very curious, Gaki-san.”

“I can’t help it,” Risa said, “especially when you’re not even giving me the slightest clue.”

“I guess I can’t blame you,” Ai sighed.  “Do I really seem that mysterious?”

“Let’s see; I know nothing about you except your occupation and your age.  You call yourself a bad person and I don’t know why.  You moved up here all alone without any family.  And, you put up an innocent face in front of the entire class yet almost everybody is getting an F.”

“… I am kind of secretive, aren’t I?” the teacher chuckled.

“But you won’t be as soon as you tell me something,” Risa said.

“… When I look at you, Gaki-san,” Ai started, “I somehow feel… happier.  When I look at all the students in Haro Kotogakko, it fills me with such joy, I can’t quite describe it.  I didn’t know what it was at first, but I think I know now: it’s hope.  Whenever I look at you or any other teenagers who still has a bright future cut out for them, it makes me feel incredibly hopeful.  But it’s a hard world out there, Gaki-san.  That’s why I’m very tough on you and all my students so you can learn that not everything in life is sweet like candy.  When things get hard, you need to get stronger.”

“What happened to you?” Risa asked quietly.

“… I made a very big mistake,” the older woman said in a low voice, “and it cost me my most important person at the time.  You see… I wasn’t exactly a good student like you, Gaki-san.  I didn’t have any other family besides my grandmother, so I often went down the wrong path and hung out with the wrong group of friends.  My ignorance eventually caused my grandmother to pass away alone, with no one by her side.  I regretted it a lot.”

She stopped for a while and turned her gaze to the floor, as though she was looking back into the past.  Risa patiently waited; she knew her teacher wasn’t giving her the full story, but this was good enough.  Finally, Ai coughed a couple times before starting again.

“So you see, Gaki-san,” she smiled, “some mistakes are irreversible, and it can weigh down on your shoulders for the rest of your life.  I don’t want anybody else to go through that, and I’m sure my grandmother wouldn’t have wanted that either.  That’s why I became a teacher.”

“… Believe it or not, Sensei,” Risa slowly started, “but now I think you’re a really good person; not bad at all.”

   “Why would you say that?”

“Because, you became a teacher to help others,” Risa smiled warmly.  “You devoted the rest of your life so nobody else makes the same mistake as you.  You’re a good person, Sensei.  I think I gained some new respect for you right now.”

Ai stared at her smiling student in awe; this girl had just heard her confession, yet she still thought she was good.  Sure, it wasn’t the whole story, but Risa wasn’t stupid; she must’ve figured to what extent of “bad” Ai had gone to in the past to miss her grandmother’s death.  But her eyes still carried no judgment; only compassion and warmth.

“… Thank you, Gaki-san,” Ai smiled.  “You really are a kind girl.”

“It has nothing to do with being kind or not,” the bean said, scratching her head.  “I’m just saying what’s on my mind.”

“Right,” Ai laughed.  Risa always seemed mature, but she really was still just a kid in the end.  “Are you finished with your homework?”

   “Almost.”

“Alright then, let’s get to bed quickly.”

**  **  **

Like her mother had mentioned, Risa was quite the heavy sleeper and almost nothing could wake her up in the morning.  The bean herself knew that.  That’s why she was shocked to find herself being awoken by a very faint noise from her teacher’s bedroom in the middle of the night.

What is this noise? Risa thought, sitting up from her futon.  It sounds like… crying…?

The teenager slowly got to her feet and listened closely.  There really was a different sound mixed in with the rain.  She quietly tip-toed across the living room and slipped into the bedroom; she didn’t think too much into it before taking action.  All that was on her mind was worry for her teacher.

The quiet sobbing was more audible now; Risa could make out a figure curled up in bed sideways.  She walked to the edge and kneeled by the bedside.  Ai was really crying; tears were trickling down her face towards the bed, dampening the pillow.  The bean unconsciously reached out and put her hand on the older woman’s cheek.

   “Sensei…?” she whispered.

Suddenly, the young girl’s hand was grabbed by her teacher.  Risa gasped, thinking that the sleeping woman had awoken, but she was wrong.

   “Obaa-chan…” Ai sobbed.  “I’m sorry, please forgive me… I’ll be good now, I promise… I’m so sorry…”

Risa stared at her teacher’s face for a while; her expression was twisted in pain, even though she was still sleeping.  Was she having nightmares like this every night?

Sighing, the bean tried to carefully pull her hand out of Ai’s grasp, but the hold only grew tighter.

“Please don’t leave me, Obaa-chan…” the older woman mumbled on, still crying.  “It’s my fault, I’m sorry… please don’t leave yet… wait for me…”

“I won’t leave you,” Risa answered unconsciously.  So please don’t be in pain anymore...

Before her right mind could convince her otherwise, the bean quietly slipped under the covers with her teacher.  Ai was still clutching onto her hand tightly, but Risa didn’t mind.  All that mattered was that the sleeping woman would stop having the nightmare so she won’t have to cry anymore.  And as soon as Risa put her arm around her, Ai’s voice hitched once and the sobbing stopped, continuing instead in soft breathing.

Please don’t cry anymore, Sensei, Risa thought.  I’ll help you carry the burden, so don’t be so hard on yourself.  I know you’re a good person.

The back and forth competition between Ai and Risa really makes them a great couple but I guess its going past the student and teacher relationship :nervous

Yay! I was so happy when I noticed you updated! :mon squee: My dad probably thinks I'm crazy for making weird happy noises.. :mon sweat:

Haha! I love how Ai-chan acted so cute and childish over the pot.

And like I thought, the rain and the "come to my house" scene would ensue. :glasses:

Love the part when Ai-chan came into the bathroom during Gaki's bath. :mon crazyinlove:

Awww~ When Ai-chan was sucking on Gaki's finger~ :mon lovelaff:

Poor Ai-chan having nightmares about her Obaasan. :(

Well, so far, Gaki had already fallen for her sensei... Ai-chan haven't fallen yet so... :mon misch:

I wonder what their reactions would be when they wake up in the morning. :mon wakey:

I love long chapters so...hehe... Can't wait for next update! :twothumbs

Finally!!!

I've been waiting for this, but it was worth it.  :twothumbs

Holy... :on bleed: :imdead:

“Do I get an excuse for history homework?” Risa asked hopefully.

“Gaki-san, do I ever give an exception to homework?” Ai smiled innocently.  “Remember: it’s a zero if you miss homework, and no make-ups.”

“Sometimes, I think you’re a little too tough, even for me,” Risa muttered.”

“I’m being fair, not tough,” the teacher grinned.  “You better get started if you want to go to bed early tonight.”

:on lol:

The older woman basically picked off every kind of canned food there was in the racks, starting from instant meatballs and soup to canned fruits and beans.  This made Risa smile to herself; the teacher really didn’t know how to cook, did she?

But surprisingly, Takahashi-sensei made her way to the vegetable and fruit section next.  She walked around for a while, and picked off a couple greens from the cool racks.

“I don’t,” Ai admitted.  “But eating that bento of yours today made me feel a little embarrassed, to be honest.  I feel like I should still try.  I look at some books and experiment or something.”
....or not?

Quote
“D-don’t burn down the kitchen or anything…” she muttered, trying to hide the effect of the teacher’s smile on her.
oh come on...she is the Takahashi Ai...she will positive burn it down...

“How did it start raining so hard already?” Ai remarked, yelling a little to be heard over the heavy pour of rain.
Because aou are the Ame-Onna :D :D :D

Did she just invite me to her home? Risa thought, her eyes widening.  Well, she’s a teacher; she worries about her students all the time.  I guess it doesn’t really have a special meaning or anything.  Not like I want there to be a special meaning.  But it’s true that I can’t really get home from here…
XD XD XD XD

“Deep breaths, Gaki-san,” the teacher wheezed.

“You’re not the one to be speaking, Sensei,” Risa huffed back.

   “Touché,” the teacher chuckled.

The apartment was pretty small, but big enough for one person.  The living room was stretched out to the left while the joint kitchen-dining room was located on the right.  Everything was pretty empty except for the basic furniture; there were no pictures or decorations yet.

I’ve seen Kameha naked bunch of times in onsens
Easy you like aichan :) :) :)

“I, uh… I guess I didn’t control the fire as well as I thought I did?” she said, laughing nervously.
just what I expected :smhid

   “Yeah, that’s her.”

“I thought you didn’t like her?” Risa’s mother said, a smile in her voice.

“She…” Risa lowered her voice into a whisper and covered her mouth with her hands.  “She’s not that bad.”

At this point, Ai was already by the bean’s side, grinning.  She motioned for the phone and Risa obliged.
  :lol:Just too CUTE  :on gay: :on gay:

“But you’re not as mature as I thought you are, Gaki-san,” Ai grinned narrowing her eyes.  “Your mother says to do whatever I need to do to get you up in the morning, even roll you off the bed, because you ignore whatever alarm that goes off in the house.”

“I’m a heavy sleeper,” the bean muttered.

I'm working on the SayuJun chapter now.  I'm trying to get the story to go FAST so I don't hold this up for too long.  So if the plot line is moving too fast, please use your imagination and insert a couple days/weeks/months in between scenes  :nervous XD

Long, huh?

Somehow I can totally see this happening

Wow what a chapter of pure TakaGaki fluff  (Not that I'm complaining) I wonder quite what is going through Ai's head, so far we have really only seen the thoughts of Gaki on thier relationship, I wonder how Ai fees about the two of them together, although of course not really knowing what Ai thinks is intresting and adds mystery, she is in some ways definatly flirtatious with Gaki but it it intentional? or is Ai just like that? Plus now we perhaps have a nme of some sorts to put to Ai's mistake in the past Obaa-chan... hmm what does Ai's grandmother(or someone filling that role anyway) have to do with Ai's mistake, of course it might not have anything to do with Ai's past but just a bad memory....

Shige/Jun next  :w00t: you sure do now how to make me forgive you for not posting in a while don't you!  :D

Chapter 20

“And now, now, now… What you’ve all been waiting for, or, or…”

“Hey, cut the fake echo, Linlin.”

“Aw, but the echo is what makes the announcement cool!”

   “I said cut it.”

“It’s okay, Linlin, I like your special effects.”

“Yay!  See, Jun-senpai, Aika says she likes my special effects!”

Linlin jumped up and down and hugged her smiling girlfriend as Junjun just rolled her eyes and laughed at the silliness of her lackeys.  Sayumi just raised an eyebrow, taken aback by the bright energy of the younger girls; were they really delinquents?

“Will you just say what you need to say, and not so loudly?” Junjun grinned.  “Nobody else in the street cares anyway.”

The four girls were standing in front of Café Buono.  Everybody was still in their school uniform, except for Junjun: she had taken the liberty of wearing bagging sweatpants underneath her skirts, and had rolled one side up to her knees.  They had gathered together right after school to settle the bet between the panda and the bunny.  They were smack in the middle of a bustling town: a perfect location to carry out their battle.

“Oh, fine,” Linlin groaned.  “And now, the much anticipated match between Morning Gakuen’s yankii queen Junjun and the new transfer student, Michishige Sayumi!”

“The rules are simple,” Aika said.  “This is Operation get-that-number!  Whoever gets the cell phone number of a random person in the streets wins the match!  If Jun-senpai wins, her wish will be granted by Shige-san for a day.  If Shige-san wins, her wish will be granted by Jun-senpai for a lifetime.”

“Are both players ready?” Linlin asked.

“Whenever Usa-chan is,” Junjun grinned, winking at the black-haired girl.

“Whatever,” the bunny muttered.  I have to win this if I want to be rid of this annoying person!

“Okay, then!” Linlin said.  “Let the game begin!”

“You can go first, Usa-chan,” Junjun offered.  “Do whatever you need to do to get someone’s number.  But not against their will.”

“I should be saying that to you,” Sayumi shot back coldly.

“Ouch, that hurt,” the tall panda sighed.  “But I kind of like it when you’re angry.”

The bunny groaned as she took a couple steps away from the yankii group.  She looked around in search of a boy that she could get the number of, preferably a cute one.  But the truth was that she was incredibly nervous about this match.  People have told her she’s cute and she believed her looks were above average.  But she also knew she didn’t have many friends because she didn’t really have a way with words… kind words.  Her parents had always told her she needed to be more confident.  But how?

Finally, Sayumi spotted two teenage boys, wearing a different school uniform, walking towards the café.  She took out her cell phone and clutched it to her chest, trying to gather up as much courage as she could.  When they were close enough, she stepped forward to block their way.

“Ano!” she squeaked, looking up at the male students.  “Um, excuse me…”

“Um, yes?” the boy glasses said, raising an eyebrow.  The other boy whispered into his friend’s ear but Sayumi could still hear: “She’s kind of cute…”

“Ano…” Sayumi started again, looking down now.  “Um… would it be possible to… uh… um… ex… um… change phone numbers with me?!”  Baka, baka, baka!

“Uh… change phone numbers with you?” the second boy said, making a confused expression.

   “YES!”  No!

“Uh… we, um… have to go…” the glasses boy said.

Before Sayumi could stop them, the two boys quickly walked around her.  The bunny could faintly hear the boy with glasses whisper to his friend: “Doesn’t matter if a girl is a cutie and a freak!”

The black-haired girl’s hands slid down to her sides.  It really was impossible for her to talk straight in front of people.  All that could come out of her mouth were insults or just plain stupidity that made people think she was crazy.  No wonder she couldn’t make any friends.

“Aw, Usa-chan, you failed,” a voice behind her said.  A hand rested upon her shoulder.  “That’s okay.  I think those guys were douchebags anyway.”

“Don’t touch me,” Sayumi growled, whipping around.  “Well, it’s your turn now.  Go!”

“With pleasure,” the tall panda smirked.

   “Go senpai!” Aika cheered.

   “Ganbatte!” Linlin chimed in.

Junjun gave a quick wave to her followers and winked at her competitor.  She turned around and took a couple steps forward while searching through the crowd for her prey.  Finally, she set her eyes on a group of girls wearing blue school uniforms, chatting away.  Junjun smirked as she quickly intercepted the four students.

“Excuse me, ladies,” she greeted, smiling, “but I was wondering if you’re from the nearby Tamago Gakuen?”

“Yes, we are,” the girl with long black hair said.  “And you are…?”

“Wait a minute, aren’t you…?” one of the girls with short hair said, her eyes widening.  “Ayaka, isn’t this the girl you were talking about in school today?”

“Ah, you’re right, Kanon-chan!” the girl with a ponytail exclaimed.  “Junjun, the queen of Morning Gakuen!”

“The one girl that not even the teachers can touch!” the other short-haired girl squealed.  “Kakkoii!  Yuukarin, you know her!”

“Of course I know, Saki-chan, everybody knows,” the first girl who had spoken said.  She blushed a little.  “So, um, Junjun-san… what business do you have with us?”

“Well, I was just going to say your collar is a little wrinkled,” the panda said, smiling.  She reached out and straightened out Yuuka’s collar, causing her friends to gasp and giggle.

“Oh!  Um… uh… thank you very much…” the shy girl mumbled.

“No problem,” Junjun said.  “I know this is kind of rude, but will you girls please exchange phone numbers with me?  I’d love to keep in touch with all of you.  I don’t have any friends in Tamago Gakuen yet.”

“W-we’d love to!” the ponytail girl called Ayaka blurted out, half giggling and half shouting.  “It’d be an honor!”

And so, the panda easily won over the phone numbers of four girls.  They skipped away happily, giggling and gossiping to themselves.  Junjun strutted back to her kouhais, who were squealing with joy, and her competitor, who was scowling deeply.

“You never said they didn’t have to be of the opposite gender,” Sayumi growled.

“I never said they had to be of the opposite gender,” Junjun smirked.  “I thought we were clear on the rules, Usa-chan.”

Sayumi’s scowl deeper as she looked down at her feet.  She then bit down on her lips as she noticed a different emotion taking over her anger: it was sadness.  She was sad that she couldn’t win because she was such an antisocial wreck.  She was sad that this girl could be so confident while she could never find the right words.  She was sad that this person had so many friends and fans alike while she had no one.  But it had always been like that… so why did the pain hit now?

“We had a deal, right Usa-chan?” Junjun grinned.  “Tomorrow, for the whole entire day, you have to do whatever I tell you to do.  That’s my wish.”

“Fine!” Sayumi yelled, whipping her head up to stare straight into her opponent’s eyes.  “It’s only for one day!  I won’t let you beat me down any more than that!”

With that, the bunny quickly turned and ran away without looking back.  Aika and Linlin came up behind Junjun to flank her right and left again.

“Senpai, I think she’s really upset,” Aika said slowly.

“She’ll be fine,” Junjun sighed.  “It’s not like I’m going to ask her to die or anything.”

“Well, you already killed her dignity,” Linlin whistled.  “But she said she’s not going let you beat her down anymore.”

“Yeah, about that,” the tall panda said, scratching her head, “I don’t know where she got the idea that I was trying to beat her down.  The only reason I started this game was so that she would stop avoiding me so much.”

“Scared of not being loved by everybody in the world, Senpai?” Aika giggled.

“Not really,” Junjun chuckled.  “It’s just that girl.  Even if I’m not popular anymore, I feel like I don’t want that girl to hate me.  I want to see her smile.”

   “There’s a challenge,” Linlin grinned.

“It’s not even because it’s a challenge, which it is,” Junjun contradicted.  “There’s just… something.”

   “Love?” Aika guessed.

“No way,” Junjun laughed.  “You know I don’t do stuff like that.  It definitely can’t be… love…”

I totally just threw in S/mileage with Bijin Mama costumes XD

I feel like this SayuJun gave a lot to think about :P

Next is GakiKame chapter! I'm trying to keep my focus on TanaKame but it's hard what with my original fandom for Gakisan and my rising fandom for Junjun  :nervous

But I'm trying!  Definitely am!  :cool1:

Wow! Another chapter! :cow:

Aww...I kinda feel bad for Sayu because she doesn't have much confidence and she was taught to do just that. ;)

Jun doesn't even realize that she had fallen in love with Sayu? :shocked

So...I can't wait for the talk between GakiKame. Hopefully, there would be a flashback on what TakaGaki's morning was like..? :mon misch:

AN UPDATE!~~~ :gmon sing:

Quote
“And now, now, now… What you’ve all been waiting for, or, or…”

“Hey, cut the fake echo, Linlin.”

“Aw, but the echo is what makes the announcement cool!”

   “I said cut it.”
This made me laugh so hard. Linlin, you're awesome.

Poor Sayu :gmon tears:

:mon cigar:

She was sad that this person had so many friends and fans alike while she had no one.  But it had always been like that… so why did the pain hit now?
Aww poor Bunny
