Chapter 21 “And this was also the year that the Shoguns gained power,” Takahashi-sensei lectured, writing the notes on the board. “You can find this information in chapter 7, so make sure to study it. The first Shogun was— Kamei-san, that’s strike one for being late— Minamoto no Yoritomo, who ruled from 1192 to 1199.”
The entire class shifted towards the back as everyone craned their necks to spot Eri, who had attempted to come into the room silently while crouching to hide herself. Couple students snickered as Eri straightened her back and laughed nervously.
“Sumimasen, Sensei,” the turtle apologized.
“Please take your seat and don’t interrupt the class, Kamei-san,” Takahashi-sensei said, still writing on the board.
“How did she even see me without turning around?” Eri mumbled under her breath as she took her seat next to the bean.
“Strike two for talking, Kamei-san,” Takahashi-sensei chirped, causing Eri to clasp her hands over her mouth. The teacher turned around and smiled. “Word of advice: try not to get a third strike.”
“Hai…” Eri mumbled, sinking into her chair. She quickly took out her notebook and pencil as Takahashi-sensei continued on with her lecture. The turtle turned to look at her friend next to her; Risa was trying to mouth something
“Why are you late?” she asked.
Eri looked up at her teacher, who seemed preoccupied with writing notes on the board. But she wasn’t taking any more chances. The turtle ripped out a page of her notebook and started to write down her answer. Then, watching for the right chance, she slipped the paper to the bean.
I was walking Reina to school.
I tried to confess to her again, but I failed T^T
Risa shook her head while rolling her eyes. She folded the paper and quickly wrote down a reply before passing the note back.
Aho Kame.
You have to tell her someday!
Just blurt it out before it gets too late!
Eri made a face at her friend and mouthed silently: “I know that!” She sighed and picked up her pencil to start writing the long lecture on the board. But suddenly, her eyes lit up as she remembered something. Eri quickly wrote down something on the note page before tossing it on Risa’s desk.
By the way, what happened last night?
I called your house but your mom said
you were sleeping over at Takahashi-sensei’s? Is it true?
The bean’s cheeks slowly turned pink as she read the note. She looked up at the teacher who was still concentrating on teaching the course material. Risa chewed on her lips for a while before slowly writing down a reply.
I was helping her shop for kitchen utensils.
It started to rain so we went over to her house.
And then it started to pour so I got stuck there.
Eri narrowed her eyes and smirked as she read her friend’s note. She turned to look at the bean but Risa was now furiously writing down the lecture on the board, trying to keep her mind off of something. The turtle scribbled down a couple words and threw the note back onto her friend’s desk.
Something definitely happened, I can tell!
Give me all the dirty details!
Risa frowned as she felt her face heat up even more. She mouthed to her friend: “Nothing happened!” But Eri only mouthed back: “Uso!” The bean rolled her eyes and thought for a moment. Something certainly had happened: she had slept on the same bed as her teacher. When she had woken up that morning… oh boy.
^^^
Risa opened her eyes to the sunlight seeping through the blinds. Her eyes whirled around for a while, trying to figure out where she was. Then she remembered she had slept over at Takahashi-sensei’s house. And that she was crying so she just slipped into bed with her… What was she thinking?
Sighing, Risa tried to move but found herself completely bound. She raised an eyebrow as she looked down at herself and flipped open the blankets.
Her teacher’s arms were constricting her waist tightly, preventing her from moving. Ai had her face buried in the bean’s chest, which made Risa blush a little. Oh, what an awkward position to be in…
“Um… Sensei?” Risa whispered softly. She cleared her throat and tried again. “Sensei…?”
At that moment, Ai mumbled something incoherent to herself and tightened her hold on her student even more, practically cutting off her blood circulation. Risa gasped, trying to get some oxygen down her throat.
“Sensei!” Risa wheezed, trying to pry her teacher off of her. “Sensei, I can’t… breath! … Sen—WOAH!”
With a loud yell, the bean toppled off the bed and hit her head on the carpeted floor, but freeing herself from the constricting arms in the process. Ai jerked awake and gasped. She looked down from her bed and raised an eyebrow.
“Gaki-san?” she said in a confused tone. “What are you doing down there?”
“… I’m never sleeping over again, Sensei,” Risa grumbled. She was in a pretty awkward position: her legs were still tangled in the blankets but her entire body was wedged in between the bed and the wall causing her neck to bend in a pretty uncomfortable way.
“Wait, were you sleeping in bed with me last night?” Ai asked, still unsure of what was going on. “Did you have a nightmare?”
“I didn’t have a nightmare, you did!” Risa whined, trying to get herself up but failing.
“… Oh. OH. Oh gosh… I’m so sorry about that, Gaki-san,” Ai said, figuring out what must’ve happened. “I guess it’s just the new atmosphere and all… it’s not hard to fall asleep but it’s hard to stay asleep.”
“It’s okay, I understand,” Risa mumbled, remembering the way her teacher had cried during the night.
“But I had a pretty sound sleep this time,” Ai said smiling. “I guess it’s because you were there, Gaki-san. Thank you.”
“No problem… but I’m not doing it again,” Risa groaned. “And, uh… a little help here please?”
Ai laughed as she got off the bed and helped her student pop herself out of the wedge. She smiled again and whispered, “Thank you”. Risa only blushed and looked down.
^^^ The bean sighed as she looked at her turtle friend. Eri was mouthing something furiously while miming a pencil in action. Risa rolled her eyes and started to scribble down on the note.
I took a shower, we had dinner together, and we talked.
Then we went to bed.
She was really nice about letting me stay, I’m grateful.
Eri sighed, frustrated. She mouthed at her friend: “Boring!” Risa bit down on her lips and started to think for a while. Then, she snatched the note from desk and started to write again.
For one thing, I don’t think I hate her anymore.
In fact, I may even like her.
But not like-like. Just like.
Eri smirked as she read the note. She didn’t even wait another second to write down a reply.
Who knows? Maybe you like girls too.
I think you like-like her.
Risa blushed a little as she read this. Eri kept her smile, though she was kind of surprised. She had expected her bean friend to roll her eyes and just scoff at her teasing, but she had taken it seriously! Maybe she really did like the teacher…
Actually, in all honesty… you may be right.
The turtle gasped softly and looked up at her friend, who was furiously taking notes again. Eri grinned to herself and quickly wrote down a reply.
I knew it, you are so in love with Takahashi-sensei.
But hey, who knows? Maybe she like-likes you too.
As the turtle attempted to pass the note to the bean again, someone snatched it from her hands. The two friends looked up at their teacher, who was waving the note page in her hand.
“Passing notes in class, Kamei-san and Niigaki-san?” Takahashi-sensei smiled. “That’s strike one for you, Iinchou, and strike three for you, Kamei-san. Please write a 500 word essay about why disrupting class is not a good idea; have it on my desk by the end of the day.”
“Hai…” the turtle answered weakly, slumping her shoulders.
Risa started to mutter something under her breath; she hated having any imperfection on her record, even if it was just a slight blemish.
The history teacher walked back up to the front of the class room. But instead of throwing away the note that was passed back and forth, she tossed it on her desk and continued on with her lesson. Eri started to have a minor panic attack while Risa’s cheeks blushed a furious red. If Takahashi-sensei read that… what would she do?
They could only pray that the teacher would never see that note.

Ahh~ this was fun to write

Next up is TakaGaki~
I tried to squeeze in a TanaKame but it didn't flow well with the current plotline that I have (I currently have the next 7 chapters planned out)

But don't worry, something interesting will happen soon
