Chapter 63 “Is it time yet?” Junjun asked quietly, stretching her neck to look over Aika’s shoulder.
“Just a little bit left,” Aika mumbled, concentrating on the timer in her cell phone.
“… Now is it time yet?” Linlin slowly questioned, looking over Aika’s other shoulder to get a glimpse of the cell phone.
“Just a little… more…” Aika said, narrowing her eyes.
“… Now?” the pandas asked together.
“Oh, will you two rest easy?!” Aika yelled, looking away from her phone to glare at her two fellow yankiis on either side of her. “I said just a bit—” The girl stopped short of her words and grinned widely as her cell phone resonated a beeping sound. “It’s time.”
“YATTA!”
The three girls turned around together to face their breakfast on the counter. Wasting no time, they ripped off the paper opening of the cup ramen in unison and grabbed their chopsticks. After rubbing the two wooden pieces together to shave off the splinters, the three girls clapped their hands together.
“Itadakimasu!”
All talking ended as the sound of slurping and satisfied sighs from the warm noodles hitting their stomachs took over their little cornered area in the convenience store. Some people walking on the streets outside spotted the three yankii girls through the glass in the store, and either scowled or just cocked their heads. The gang didn’t really care, and couldn’t blame the civilians either; after all, they all looked like pieces of rags. None of them really bothered to dress up that much on Sunday mornings when they didn’t even have school. A simple t-shirt and sweatpants did fine along with a messy ponytail to pull back their ratty bed-heads (except for Aika, whose hair was so short that she had to manage with bobby pins clipped in various angles). Match that get-up together with eating cup ramen at a convenience store counter where there weren’t even any chairs, and you got multiple accusations of being a hobo or a runaway teenager.
But the three delinquents didn’t eat cup ramen because they didn’t have the money to eat anything else. Sure, they were tight on budget most of the time, but it was just pure enjoyment and a tradition to them to eat ramen together every Sunday morning. It was sort of a gang-bonding time. Ocassionally, the other girls joined them as well but they were usually busy hanging out with each other… that is, their girlfriends.
“Come to think of it,” Junjun spoke with a half-full mouth, “Chisato isn’t here today. Hasn’t she joined us quite often lately in the ramen fest?”
“I got a text from Airi saying that Chissa and Mai got back together,” Linlin coughed out, choking a bit on a noodle. “Apparantly, Miya overheard them talking and everything’s fine.”
“Big surprise there,” Aika said sarcastically, gently tapping her girlfriend’s back repeatedly to help her regain her breath. “Chissa and Maimai always fight, but they always reconcile anyway.”
“Well, I guess Chisato is rejoining the little couple ranks with the rest of them,” Junjun grinned. “I can already hear Captain lecturing them again about the importance of committed relationships.”
“Yeah, tell her to properly reign in her own girlfriend first,” Aika grunted, swishing her chopsticks in the ramen. “Somebody told me they saw Maimi at the club again, attracting quite a number of girls and boys alike.”
“Oh, they’ll be fine,” Linlin shrugged, taking a big drink straight from her ramen bowl. “Maimi is always like that but she and Captain never broke up before.”
“Yeah, but there was that time when Captain locked Maimi out of their apartment before, remember?” Aika said, fully engaging herself in the gossip now. “That went on for a couple days. She didn’t pick up the phone or answer emails or anything. Maimi begged on her knees.”
“But Saki eventually took her back in again,” Junjun chuckled. “I guess she couldn’t bear to stay away from Maimi too long either. A shame, I thought, it was kind of fun watching Maimi lose her cool like that… especially since she really deserved it that time.”
“What did she do again?” Linlin asked, raising an eyebrow. “Was it because of that time she met that other girl at a party and—”
“Shh! Linlin!” Aika hushed, putting a finger to her lips. “That’s taboo in the gang now, remember?”
“Oh… right…” the younger panda nodded slowly.
“Well, enough about that,” Junjun laughed, enjoying this moment with her two best girls. “Finish your ramen. We’re heading back to my place to freshen up after this and then heading over to Usa-chan’s.”
“Eh? We’re not going to Tanaka-senpai’s?” Aika inquired.
“Why would we go to Reina’s?”
“Well… we just thought… you know…” Linlin said slowly. “She did text you about her father coming to Tokyo today… right?”
“Yeah.”
“Shouldn’t we be there… you know, to support her?” Aika asked worriedly.
“Actually, I don’t think that’s such a good idea,” Junjun sighed. “Look, we’re still yankiis, you know. Just nothing but stupid teenagers ruining their lives… at least the way Reina’s dad looks at us. We’re not really helping out in any way by being there to greet the president.”
“I guess you’re right…” Linlin mumbled. “But Tanaka-senpai—”
“—will be fine,” Junjun finished quickly. “She has someone else to support her anyway. In fact, Kame-chan is probably at her place right now.”
“How do you know?” Aika asked.
“Sharp intuition,” Junjun grinned, tapping her forehead, “and logic. I called Kame-chan’s house last night a couple times and she never picked up. So the question of the day is… where has our turtle been all night?”
“… No wonder Jun-senpai is the smartest student in the school,” Linlin smiled. “That’s pretty clever.”
“So, are you relieved now, Aika?” the older panda winked.
“… Yeah, I guess so,” the short-haired girl sighed.
“Okay then,” Junjun grinned. She gulped down the rest of her ramen soup and tossed the bowl in the trash. “Onwards to my place!”
** ** **
The door creaked open as a petit, cat-like girl wearing nothing but a camisole and her pink underwear slipped into the bedroom. She silently glided over to the large window and opened the thick curtains, leaving only the thin, lacey layer to let the sunlight seep through ever so slightly. The girl turned around to face her bed, in which a familiar figure was tangled up in the blankets. The sleeping girl stirred a little and rolled onto her back—an action that would’ve revealed her entire bare body if it wasn’t for the thin white sheet wrapped around her. She licked her lips a little before uttering her lover’s name, allowing the girl by the window to blush with joy.
Smiling, the petit girl slowly walked over to the bed and sat on the edge of the mattress, reaching out to gently tuck her lover’s hair behind her ears. She remembered how short it was when they had first met—short enough to make her believe she was a boy. But now, the silky light brown hair was growing beyond the girl’s shoulders, increasing her feminine charms. She was becoming more beautiful every day, and her lover had noticed. Carefully, the small girl climbed on top of her sleeping girlfriend to plant a gentle kiss on her lips without putting any other weight on her body.
“Rise and shine, sleeping beauty,” she whispered, kissing her lover’s ear. “Here’s your true love’s kiss so wake up…”
She kissed the familiar soft lips again over and over, seeming to have no effect on the sleeping girl whatsoever. Suddenly, she felt her back hit the bed in a flash as a slight weight pressed against her body. The kiss she had initiated got more intense as her lover kissed her back with much passion, quietly moaning. The petit girl pushed her attacker back as she exhaled sharply in disbelief.
“You tricked me!” she laughed.
“I did no such thing,” the short-haired girl grinned playfully. “I merely kept my eyes closed and you made the wrong assumption that I was sleeping, Reina.”
The turtle quickly locked her lips with her girlfriend’s before she could argue back. Reina silently gave in as she giggled into the kiss. They made out for a while, their tongues battling for dominance over another intensely. Reina wrapped her arms around Eri’s neck and pulled her down to make her lose balance and just simply fall on top of her. The kiss broke and Eri laughed as got on her elbows again and stroked her lover’s cheek, sighing blissfully.
“You’re not wearing any pants,” she commented, smiling cheekily.
“You’re not wearing any clothes,” Reina pointed out, smirking.
“Touché,” Eri chuckled, noting the bedsheet covering her nakedness.
“Mm… I like it, though,” the kitten murmured, pulling her girlfriend’s face in to meet her lips again.
The two lovers rolled over again to bring the kitten on the top. Their kiss continued on even more fervently than before, eliciting quiet moans from the both of them. Reina finally pulled slightly away, breathing hard.
“We should really get up now,” she sighed. “I made breakfast.”
“You’re enough for me,” Eri grinned, “although I wouldn’t mind continuing this in the kitchen.” She lifted up her head in an attempt to kiss her lover again but Reina pushed her lip down with her finger.
“Get dressed,” Reina chuckled, giving a quick peck on Eri’s forehead. “Anything in my closet is yours.”
The two girls finally got themselves off the bed and headed to the dresser. Reina put on a skirt and a large t-shirt over her camisole as Eri quickly put on some undergarments. She then picked out a blouse and a pair of jeans to wear for the day. As she checked her appearance in the large life-size mirror on the wall, Reina came up from behind and hugged her.
“Am I shaking?” she asked.
“… No,” Eri answered, putting her hands over Reina’s. “Should you be?”
“No,” the kitten smiled, “I thought I would be, what with it being only a couple hours before Papa arrives… but I’m not scared anymore. Right now, you feel closer to me than ever.”
“Well, considering you’re plastered to my back right now…” Eri joked, grinning.
“Not like that, baka,” Reina pouted. “You know what I mean.”
“Yeah, I know,” Eri beamed, “and I feel the same way.” She turned around to place her hands on her girlfriend, gentle yet firm. “Everything’s going to be okay, Reina. I promise.”
“I know it will be,” Reina nodded, smiling, “and I’m ready.”
