Happy Birthday DREAMCAST!!!!
« on: September 09, 2010, 06:43:48 PM »
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

 Our girl is 11 years old today!

For me, Dreamcast is not only an all time classic, but one of the ALL TIME best consoles ever made. and not only that, games are STILL being made for it!
There were Dreamcast podiums at the recent Gamescom in Germany!!!

Only SNES and Nintendo DS are equal or close to this beauty in my affections.
I can remember buying mine on release day in Woolworths :D I was the only person in the whole store that early, and they had a promotion on about "spend £10 and get a free ticket to some kids show" so I ended up with 25 or more kids tickets that I couldn't use, plus a free Chemical Brothers CD for some reason, and the girl had to sit there and hand write out all these tickets XD but it was worth the wait, and I played Sonic Adventure in awe and excitement :D
I'm looking forward to the Xbox Live release on the 15th of September so I can experience it again ^______^......even though I have 2 copies and sonic adventure 2 special edition right here XD

Also after today this is the official Dreamcast thread so post post post :D

And no, that's not everything I have for Dreamcast, just what I have out at the moment, and yes, it's covering my bed because I'm sleeping with her tonight
(okay maybe I'll just play SFIII...)

HAPPY BERFDAY DC!!!

Dreamcast is the best console ever made, and if you don't agree, then you know SHIT about gaming.

I wanted a DC from the second it was announced. I remember reading all about Sonic Adventure, Pen Pen Tricelon, some Godzilla shit, Shenmue in my game magazines. It looked so awesome..

I received my dreamcast shortly after Jet Set Radio came out. The first games I had were Crazy Taxi, JSR, NFL2K, that Spawn game, plus some others. It's been a long time (~8-9 years ). I wound up renting more games than buying, though (here's looking at you Shenmue, Power Stone 2). I never really got to flesh my collection of DC games out before it effectively died and the Xbox hit. Skies of Arcadia was one of my favorite games for it, and during that period of time.

I've gotten to play quite a few more games through emulator in recent times, and quite enjoy many of them. The DC controller is easily the best one ever made.

spoilers: i bought sonic shuffle, and it was one of the worst games i've ever played

it still is, my favorite console ever.

I remember mainly got the dreamcast for 1 game. Capcom vs. SNK... but it introduced me to more genres that I would love later on. Like,  If it weren't for Ikaruga, i wouldnt have been into shmups. If it were not for PSO, i wouldnt have liked any form of MMORPG, If it were not for Shutoku Battle and Sega Rally 2, i wouldn't be into driving/sim games, and if it weren't for Rez, i wouldn't be as awesome as i am today

But yeah, the DC made me a believer in a lot of things, that 3D games can be fun, that rotating my TV is the only way to play vertical shumps, that arcade sticks truly are superior than gamepads, it made me anal about display settings (Dreamcast VGA BOX anyone?), it also taught me how to troubleshoot consoles by myself, and learning things like soldering and actual pcb tweaking. It taught me that Console MMO's can work well (i spent a lot of time in PSO ver2). It taught me a lot of things about gaming, about what i really liked in video games, and about what i hated about them.

edit - seeing DOA2 and Guilty Gear X for the first time (around 1999/2000) pants dropped.

Dreamcast \m/

Dreamcast is my favourite console along with my old Mega Drive and I still play both regularly. Shenmue 1 and 2 as well as Skies of Arcadia are some of my favourite games of all time. Ecco the Dolphin in 3D pretty much blew my mind the first time I played it, Space Channel 5 is the only rhythm game I ever really seriously got into and Soul Calibur is still my favourite fighting series. I wish the idea of the VMU hadn't been left behind with the Dreamcast. I used to play with chao and Power Stone mini games in class. The Dreamcast also helped me get through a period of no PC and it pioneered the idea of DLC on consoles.

But never mind all that. Shenmue 3 where?

I remember getting the Dreamcast for Christmas. This was around the time the PS2, Xbox and GC were all out and I honestly hadn't heard much about it so it came as a surprise to me. I got a number of games with it including Jet Set Radio, Virtua Fighter 3tb, Sonic Adventure, Metropolis Street Racer and Shenmue. Needless to say, I loved every single one of them, I got so wrapped up in Shenmue for example that I'm pretty sure it pointed me towards Japanese culture and towards stuff like anime, film and J-Pop. I probably wouldn't be the same person I am today without it, hell I might not have even been here on this forum. I got a few other games for it afterwards like the imported version of Shenmue II, Skies of Arcadia, Resident Evil : Code Veronica, Crazy Taxi and Virtua Tennis. All fantastic. It's one hell of a console, a shame that the PS2 forced Sega's hand, although they were making games that just couldn't generate back any profit. If I remember correctly there was some statistic that if every DC owner in the world bought a copy of Shenmue, they still wouldn't make any profit off it.

But it was ambitious, the first to test the water of console online play, with a great catalog of games and my favourite controller. The whole thing is a gem! I'll raise a glass to you dear Dreamcast. Happy Birthday, and thanks for the memories!

I don't really have much of a hum.. relationship with the DC (I was too obsessed with my SNES to care about other consoles :P ), but happy, happy birthday! And wow, pika, that's some collection *_* awesome!

I remember on 9/9/99 my friend driving me around after school to all the stores looking for somewhere that had Dreamcast in stock. Then finally finding one and playing NFL2K, Power Stone and Sonic Adventure all day long.

My top 5 10 15 Dreamcast games

1. Shenmue
2. Toy Commander
3. Power Stone 1 & 2
4. MDK2
5. Jet Grind Radio
6. NFL2K, NBA2K, Virtua Tennis (Sega Sports games)
7. Re Volt
8. REZ
9. Unreal Tournament
10. Draconus: Cult of the Wyrm
11. PSO 1 & 2
12. Daytona USA (Dreamcast had the best selection of great innovative driving games. MSR, Test Drive Le Mans, Tokyo Xtreme Racer, F355 Challenge, Crazy Taxi 1&2, SF Rush 2042 but I just love the feel of Daytona Games and Re Volt)
14. Outtrigger
15. Sword of Berserk

-I have a confession. I only played the Sonic Adventure games for the Chao.

-Also, I never played Soul Calibur on Dreamcast even though it's one of my favorite series now. O_o

-I played through Half Life for the first time on Dreamcast. They finished the game but never released it, but it was leaked online along with Propeller Arena.

Man I want to play Shenmue 2 right now but both my Dreamcasts are done for... and none of the gamestops around me have the xbox version. *sigh*

I love this console. Sound amazing games and graphics far ahead of it's time.

Still play it regularly for my Skies of Arcadia fix. DEFINITELY my favourite game on that console.

Wow.

They need to put a direct import on the Wii Shopping Channel. That'd make me use my Wii
