Kutsuna Shiori speaks English at the press conference for ‘ALCATRAZ’

On April 24th, young actress Kutsuna Shiori attended the press conference of the foreign drama ‘ALCATRAZ’.

Kutsuna had been living in Australia until the age of 14, which made it easier for her to speak English with U.S. actor Jorge García at the event.

García was delighted and praised the actress, “Her incredibly fluent English resolved all the tension. Moreover, her Australian accent is very charming. If Kutsuna wanted to advance abroad, she’d definitely make it big.” She replied humbly, “I don’t have such a desire… I’m happy as long as there is at least one viewer who wants to see me.”

For García, it was the first time he visited Japan. “I brought an empty suitcase with me,” he revealed in high spirits. “I really want to go shopping after this. My first stop will be at a toy shop.” He also spoke a bit of Japanese when Kutsuna confessed that she likes his hairdo. “Arigatou,” he thanked her with an embarrassed grin.

Furthermore, Kutsuna promoted the drama, “I haven’t seen that many foreign dramas so far, but this drama looks to have a very fresh theme and the build up is really fast. Everything is so unpredictable.” About García’s role, she added, “He’s charming and showy, it made me really interested in the role.”

At the end of the event she said, “I became an actress around five years ago, and I will continue to work hard so that maybe we’ll be able to meet again somewhere one day.”

Former professional baseball player Kiyohara Kazuhiro also attended the event.

In Japan, ‘ALCATRAZ’ will begin airing on AXN on May 6th.

Shiori yesterday at the "Natto Queen fiscal year 2012 awards ceremony" where she was chosen to be 'Queen Natto' for Natto day which is on July 10th.

Shiori today at an event for the first promoting the "otogi ★ story" series, first movie is Princess Kaguya and the second is called Grateful Crane. Something about anime and live action being mixed together, it's a docomo project, Shiori is in the first one and Rei Kikukawa is in the second, not real confident about the translation,
