Not on Oricon yet, but some sources state that the 1st day sales are:942,475
AKB48: “Everyday, Kachusha” almost sells 1 million in one day, Oshima Yuko leads electionAKB48’s 21st single, “Everyday, Kachusha,” is on its way to becoming the group’s biggest hit yet. Their previous single “Sakura no Ki ni Narou” sold 942,479 copies in its first week, but Oricon reports that “Everyday, Kachusha” has sold a staggering 942,475 copies on its first day alone.Record stores were prepared for the onslaught, as 1.45 million copies went out with the single’s first shipment, compared to 1.10 million copies for “Sakura no Ki ni Narou.”As long as the sales numbers for the rest of the week keep up, “Everyday, Kachusha” will likely set some new records. The first-week sales of “Sakura no Ki ni Narou” already ranks as the 6th highest in history, but AKB48 now has a chance to become 1st. As it stands, the top five are: Namonaki Uta – Mr.Children - 1,208,000 Addicted to You – Utada Hikaru - 1,068,000 Dango 3 Kyoudai – Hayami Kentaro, Shigemori Ayumi, Himawari Kids & Dango Gasshoudan – 1,026,000 Winter, again – GLAY - 956,000 LOVE PHANTOM – B'z - 951,000AKB48 are almost guaranteed to finish the week at #2 (and #1 for a female artist), but taking #1 will depend on their remaining momentum. Fortunately, they also happen to be in the middle of a concert revival series and their 3rd Senbatsu election (for their 22nd single), which means that sales will likely continue to be strong.
Day 1: #1 - 942,475
One reason why AKB48 and many other idol groups hit so well on the Oricon charts, is because many fans buy multiple copies of their CDs. I’ve never done that myself, but I have bought all 3-4 versions of a single a couple of times before. Now, this sometimes gets to such an extreme level that it’s, well, a little bit creepy.“Everyday, Kachuusha” sold 942,475 copies the first day, and 5500 were from just one person, for a total of 880,000 yen (~$10,800). I don’t know about you, but I’d say that’s quite a bit of money for what you get, and I think he might have to get a bigger apartment. That said, although buying multiple copies isn’t the only way to show how much of a wota you are, I think we’re safe to say that he’s a big one, although I can’t spot a single poster in his room…
I've got to wonder who he's voting for.
