I woke up just a little while ago, and came to this thread.  Man, I've got some serious mixed emotions right now.  I'll wait till later (after I've collected my thoughts) to post more on the election, but I will say this:  I really, really want to give Tomochin a great big hug right now.  :cry:

Maeda Atsuko reclaims #1 in AKB48′s 3rd Senbatsu Election

AKB48 held its 3rd Senbatsu election on Thursday, determining the participating members for AKB48′s 22nd single. This year, the #1 spot was recaptured by Maeda Atsuko, after being narrowly defeated by Oshima Yuko last year.

As expected, this year’s election dwarfed last year’s, with a total vote count of more than 1 million votes. The top 40 members received a combined 1.08 million votes, compared to 354,000 for last year’s top 40. Maeda beat Oshima by a margin of approximately 17,000 votes – 139,892 to 122,843. In 2010, Oshima surpassed Maeda by less than 600 votes – 31,448 to 30,851.

Kashiwagi Yuki took #3, up five spots from last year. Sashihara Rino climbed 10 spots to #9. Umeda Ayaka and Takayanagi Akane also took big leaps in the rankings, though they fell just short of the cut between the Senbatsu members and the under girls.

150 members were eligible for this year’s election, making it highly competitive. Like the last time, the top 12 are appointed as the “Media Senbatsu” (for promoting the new single) and the top 21 will participate on the single’s title track. #22 through #40 are the “under girls,” who will be included on the single’s various B-sides.

The single does not yet have a title, but it is scheduled for release on August 24, 2011.

The complete election rankings are listed below with vote counts. Ranking changes from last year are in parentheses.

Noooooooooooo Yuuuuuukooooooooo!! ;    n ;
Hmmmn we'll get 'em next time! And Mariko... >___> we'll get you more votes.

I'm glad Rena made media senbatsu and I'm pretty happy that she beat Jurina and took her spot! XD I think for me that's about the only thing particularly positive about the results! :lol:;;

^Let's just hope she wasn't referring to media senbatsu...

...or that HoriPro is so butt-hurt by Itano's drop that they decide to give her another PB instead  :nervous

I would be really grateful if someone could tell me what Acchan said, please.
I just went to tears now only by seeing Acchan's face, I can't see my Oshi crying without crying too T__T
I'm so proud of her 1st place. I don't care about her position, winning or not she'll always be first in my heart...  :heart:

I'm really glad for Akicha and Rena's results. They've won their own battle, at least...  :wub:

Gekikara Rena ROCKS!! :rockon:

Takamina and Takayanagi are indeed really kickass leader in their own speech...  :rofl:

Btw, since Rena is 10th and Sae is 11th, guess we'll see a lot of SaeRena these following days  :twisted:

What can I say? I'm happy for everyone.

I'm happy Sayaka made it to senbatsu but at the same time I don't like the fact she's doomed to not appear on the PV not TV shows. So... It's like a bittersweet feeling.

I thought Sau would rank higher so I'm kind of disappointed because I failed my prediction, but I'm still glad she made it to media :heart:

My babies are the best :inlove:

And pls, AKB wotas, more Takamina love next year, pls. :smhid

Some of the suprising jumps:
- When on earth did Yukirin get so many fans. I honestly thought either 'Super-active Tomochin' or 'All your fanbase are belong to Mayuyu' was going to be 3rd in the end. Compared to Yuki really not doing much different from the year before, except maybe French Kiss. Guess she really does have a lot of ninja fans. On the bright side, still waiting for 2009 #1 PB girl to get her 2nd PB here~ :hand:
- A wota is beating all the idols. :bow:
- Kenkyusei jumping in like crazy. Yeah, Team 4 {hehehe}. Heck, I still think of Yui as a Kenkyusei. Good job Ariyoshi. :thumbsup Wish Yui dropped a few spots and joined Undergirls :twisted:
- And did Churi grow wings or something? :w00t:
