"Nee nee nee !" Sayumi voiced out the moment she stepped into the office of CIL. She had successfully attracted the attention of both Eri and Miki, who both had arrived early to the office earlier in the day.

"What?" Miki asked uninterestedly as she continued her speed on the keyboard. "Anyway, you are quite daring. Just because our supervisor is currently suspended, that doesn’t gives you the excuse to report in near to noon." Miki continued.

"I was collecting intelligence!" Sayumi argued back.

"Whatever." Miki brushed off. "So what made you being so excited when coming in here, Shige-san?"

"I have grabbed hold of the reason for Takahashi Ai's suspension!" Sayumi replied, successfully getting Miki's attention. Miki stopped her typing and looked curiously at Sayumi. On the other hand, Eri, who was the standing in supervisor, showed no interest in Sayumi's statement.

"What's the reason?" Miki questioned.

"This is definitely the biggest news of the universe. I bet none of you could guessed the reason." Sayumi pulled off as she crossed her arms.

"Cut the dragging! Just say!" Miki reprimanded impatiently.

"Apparently . . . The Takahashi Ai is a mother of a child. She was being filed against abandonment of premature infant and deliberate attempt murder. And she had pleaded guilty on the charged made on her." Sayumi complied.

"EH?!" Miki exclaimed as she pushed herself away from her desk and towards where Sayumi was - by Eri's desk. "Are you sure? She definitely don't look like someone who will break the law, given her strict rules and regulations on our way of working." Miki continued.

"I'm pretty sure about that. That's what I heard from the team 4 leader. The trial was ran yesterday." Sayumi affirmed. She then turned slightly to face the working Eri. She was satisfied with the reaction that Miki gave, but not what Eri had gave her. Even after what Sayumi had announced, Eri remained unaffected, with her eyes still fixed on the computer and fingers on the keyboard. "You are not surprise, Eririn?" Sayumi asked in a low voice.

"I knew it right from the start." Eri stated, with her fingers not leaving the keyboard.

"You knew it right from the start? How?" Both Miki and Sayumi asked surprisingly in unison. "Why didn't you tell us then?" Sayumi added on as she leaned closer to Eri.

"It's not my story to tell. That's why I did not say anything about it." Eri replied. She stopped her fingers for a short while and took a deep breath. 'I don't think Gaki-san will want anyone else to know about it. And especially after the mishap that had happened to Haru-chan . . . And Takahashi-san . . . She didn't seemed to me to be such person as well . . . I wonder . . . How is she taking it . . . ' Eri thought silently in her mind as she sighed deeply. Shaking her head lightly to brush away the depressing thoughts, Eri, once again, picked up her speed on the keyboard, continuing her way through the report she was working on.

Sayumi looked queerly at Eri, knowing the fact that Eri was hiding some stuffs. But she had decided to brush that aside. "And that's not the only thing I'd heard from Team 4."

"Hmmm?" That caught Eri's attention. Eri pulled her hand away from the keyboard and rest in on the table. "Was it regarding the verdict?"

Sayumi shook her head in response. "Even though Takahashi Ai had pleaded guilty, the trial is scheduled for second hearing due to the intervention of your best friend." Sayumi continued as she nodded slightly towards Eri at the mention of Risa.

"Gaki-san?" Eri and Miki questioned in unison. 'Why would Gaki-san intervened? Wasn't she the one who had insisted in the filing of the document?' Eri thought in confusion.

"Apparently. . . Takahashi Ai was involved in a rape crime 8 years ago . . . and the police had allowed the culprit to escape from judicial hearing due to insufficient evidence and . . . " Sayumi paused for a while before continuing "Possible bribery . . . FID had officially taken over the case now. Gaki-san is currently in-charge of this case."

"WHAT?!" Eri exclaimed as she shot up from her seat.

"What happened, Kame-chan?" Why the sudden reaction? You weren't reacting this way when you first heard the news. Haven't you knew this right from the start?" Miki commented.

"Nothing. . . " Eri shook her head returned back to her original position. 'If that was the case . . . Counting the months. . . Haru-chan . . . could be the product of the rape crime . . . which means . . . But . . .  How . . . Everything is so messed up. . .  If that's the case . . . . the most innocent victim in everything . . . it would be Takahashi-san, isn't that so? And now. . . Did I made the wrong move by following on to Gaki-san selfish request to file the document. . .but . . . What should I do now?'

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ai sat motionlessly on the couch of her living room with her newly attained stuffed toy on her lap and her arms encircling round the soft texture. She was staring blankly at the space before her, with her mind bringing her back to the incident the day before.

"You hated me don't you? Let us maintained as this relationship. . . .It's enough. . . .I don't need you to sympathise with me . . ."

"I - It wasn't out of sympathy . . .  I -"

Ai interrupted Risa once again before Risa could finish her words. "Say no more . . . What I want . . .is for this . . .THIS . . . to end . . . Don't drag on them . . .You are not helping me . . . " Ai continued, with a softer and gentler voice. Not waiting for any responses from Risa, Ai turned away from Risa and began to travel towards her own vehicle.

"Wait! Listen to me, Takahashi Ai!" Risa screamed after the retreating figure. However, Ai made no effort to answer to that call. Instead, she unlocked her vehicle and climbed into the driver's seat, closing the door straight after that, shutting any attempted communication made by Risa.

'I just want this to be over. . . .I don't want to think about it anymore . . . '

- ding dong -

The clear ringing of the doorbell brought Ai back to the real time. She hugged Daisy closed to herself, stood up from the couch and began to glide across the room to the front door. Not bothering to check through the peek hole, Ai pulled opened the apartment door with her free hand. At the sight of her visitor, Ai had the urge to slam the door close straight on the visitor's face. But she did not do that. In the end, she did not had the heart to do the act.

"Sorry for interrupting." Came the familiar voice.

"What are you doing over here? How did you even managed to get my address?" Ai asked restlessly as she stood at by the door, blocking the doorway for entry.

"Can I come in?" Risa asked nervously as she readjust the sling strap on her shoulder. " I would like to give you some stuffs." Risa paused for a long moment before continuing, " And I have a few questions for you. Just a few questions. Nothing more." Risa explained briefly as sincerity filled her eyes.

Ai's heart wavered at the sincerity. As much as she had wanted to get Risa out of her sight - as the sight of Risa reminded her of Haru, she could not bring her heart to reject her, especially Risa had mentioned that she was here to pass her some stuffs. Ai scooted slightly behind the door, allowing entry for Risa into the simple apartment.

"Thank you. . . " Risa said under breath, took off her shoes, entered the house by the side and straight into the living room. Ai shut the door and followed behind Risa, placing Daisy duck on the dining chair when she passed by the dining room. Risa stood awkwardly in the middle of the living room, unsure if she was allowed to sit down.

"Take a seat. It's unlike you to be so polite. Please be the Gaki that I knew. I liked it that way." Ai breezed emotionlessly as she returned back to the place where she had sat previously.

Risa stood motionlessly at the same place. 'Why did she went back to the cold mask she had created for herself?' Risa thought sadly in her mind. 'There's no way I can see her in the same way I saw her previously. . . not after all these had happened. . . Kame, you were right. . . there were something more about than just a cold face she had carried around her atmosphere.  . .' Risa turned around and caught Ai staring at her.

"What do you have to pass to me?" Ai asked tediously as she crossed her legs.

Risa moved towards the other end of the couch and sat down, leaving a big empty space between the two of them. Placing the sling bag on her lap, Risa unzipped the bag and took out a small white parcel shaped cloth with a pink ribbon tied on it and placed it on the empty space. "I - had kept some of the bone ashes . . . and I thought . . . You might want to keep some parts of it. . . " Risa gulped down a mouthful of saliva as pain grew in her chest. "And this . . " Risa took out a photo album and placed it beside the parcel.

Ai kept her eyes on the items placed by her side. The demure that she was faking was fading slowly. Ai turned away and began to focus on her fingers instead.

"I won't believe if you were to tell me that you won't want them . . . Not after I had witness so much from you. So please . . . " Risa continued through her trembling lips. "Don't say that you do not want them."

Ai nodded her head, almost unnoticeable. "Is that what you are for? If you are done, I think you may want to leave . . ."

"Can - can I hear your story? Your story. . . I really want to help you. . . no matter what you say. . . no matter how much you are going to reject the idea, I'm still going to do it. . . " Risa added on immediately upon hearing Ai's request for her to leave. "I don't want to be always guessing about what may happened . . . "

Ai remained silent as she crossed her arms.

"Please?" Risa asked again. However, Ai chose to ignore Risa. She had not replied anything to Risa. "I have read through the case description. Do you mind me asking you some questions?" Risa turned the wheel, but still, failed to get Ai to respond to her. "Did anyone knew that you were present at the bar that night and had left early? According to the alibis reports, they had claimed that you were not even on location that night." Risa asked as she took out her notebook and pen. Ai looked away from Risa's curious stares and at the Daisy Duck at the dining area. " Or did anyone saw you leaving the bar with Tanaka Juncho?" Risa asked again. Risa waited awhile for responses from Ai. However, there was none. " Takahashi Ai, remaining silent won't help you in any way!"Risa cried in desperation.

"Are you done?" Ai finally spoke up. "You said you just had a few questions to ask. That's quite a number you had asked. I didn't say I would answer them. Would you like to leave now, Gaki?" Ai continued as she turned back and glanced at Risa with her old cold eyes.

Risa stood up and went towards the door reluctantly, with her fist clenched tightly by her side. "Why? Why don't you allow anyone to help you?"

Ai remained still at where she was. "Because there's no reason to. . . After all these years. . . Justice still does not exist at all. . . Not at all . . ."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Kamei-san, can you please come into my office?" The phone intercom sounded.

"Hai!" Eri got out of the office and into the Chief room. "What is it that you had for me, Chief?"

"I guessed you had heard from the rumours that are going around regarding Takahashi-san, don't you?"

"A little. Sayu was talking about them in the office this morning as well." Eri replied as she settled herself on the chair before the chief.

"Well. . . It's not rumours. . . they are all true facts. Now that Takahashi-san had pleaded guilty during the first hearing, high chances is that she would not be allowed to work in the CIL any more, given the fact that she had broke the criminal law previously."

"But that's . . . "

"I had called Takahashi-san this afternoon and told her about this. She had too accepted this fact. In fact, she had told me that you are a good candidate for the new chief supervisor position. I'm glad to inform you that . . .Kamei-san, you are promoted."

'Why did Takahashi-san do that? She knew I was the one who ran the test for Gaki-san, that I am the one who filed the document. . . Why?' Eri sat at the seat, awestruck. "Is . . . Takahashi-san coming back?"

"She would be back tomorrow to collect the rest of her personal belongings."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Kame. . . " Came a distressed voice over the phone receiver.

"Gaki-san? What happened? Why are you sounding so distress? Did you cry again?" Eri asked in concern.

"Why? What can I do to help her? I really want to help her! But why is she rejecting? Why? I don't understand why, Kame. Why?"

"Are you talking about Takahashi-san?"

"Have you heard about it? About her . . . " Risa trial off, being afraid to mention the four words - victim of rape crime.

"Yes." Came a short reply from Eri. "Let's do this together. . . We are the one who had caused this complication. .  . let us fix it back together . . "

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ai placed the very few stationary that were on her desk into the paper box before her as the security stood at the doorway, watching her packing her stuffs. It did not take Ai a long time to pack her belongings as there were not many present in the first place. "I'm done." Ai whispered softly to the security as she brought the box close to her chest. "I'm ready to leave. Do you need to check through them?"

"There isn't such need to."

Ai nodded her head in acknowledgement. She took one last glance around the room.

"Get out, GAKI!" Ai grunted again, slightly louder this time round.

"I know. . . I getting myself  out now, can't you see that?" Risa responded with a slight smirk on her face. "Maa, I still curious why had you decided to become a forensic scientist instead of the medical team. I will still come." Risa finished as she shut the door after her.

- - - - -

"What are you doing in my office again, Gaki?" Ai asked in irritation the moment she saw Risa sitting at the usual seat.

"Do I need to have a reason to be here?" Risa rebutted.

Ai rolled her eyes in exasperation. "Gosh. Would you please get out? Can't you see that I don't really like the idea of you being in my office."

"I can see that. But still, as much that I hate your guts, I still like the fact that my presence has the ability to irritate you." Risa finished, beaming a victory smile to Ai.

- - - - -

Risa stood up from the chair immediately and began to search for another way of escape. "Why should I be? I'm here for a mission. Konno-san is asking me to . . . " Before Risa could finish her sentence, she tripped. She had tripped onto the cabinet while trying to escape for Ai, resulting on her falling onto Ai. Worse still, with her lips landing on the wrong position. Before she knew it, she had felt the softness of another lips on her own.

'Why am I remembering all these moments?' Ai thought weirdly as the moments spent in the room came flooding in her mind. She shook her head lightly, brushing away the thoughts. She then followed behind the security guard and back into the main working area of CIL.

"Takahashi-san!" Eri called out in acknowledgement the moment Ai stood out of the individual office. "Are you free? Can I talked to you privately?"

Ai looked at the security guard, who had gave the nod which meant yes. "I guessed it should be alright.

"To the meeting room outside?" Eri suggested. Ai said nothing. Instead she just nodded her head.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I was wondering . . . Why did you made me the new chief supervisor. . . I mean I'm always absentminded and slow in my work . . . "

"You have the potential to. Both Michishige-san and Fujimoto-san trusted you fully and I liked your working ethics. That's the reason why . . ." Ai replied shortly.

"But . . . you knew that . . . I was the one who had . . .helped Gaki-san with the DNA report, don't you?"

"That's the kind of work ethic I'm talking about. Impartiality. . . That's what the criminal justice needs right now. . ."

"But - "

"There's no need for buts. It's a fact that I had did that. I am willing to receive the consequences for that."Ai insisted as she interrupted Eri.

Silence began to settle in the meeting room, with Ai and Eri looking at each other awkwardly. "Do you have other things to talk to me about?" Ai asked after long moments of staring and silence.

"Well . . . I  . . . "

"I do have . . .  Let me say it first then. . . " Ai interrupted again. "I'm sorry."

"EH?" Eri croaked in a high pitch.

Ai-chan's shell is finally breaking. Let Eri and Risa help you Aichan!!

Maybe she apologized for putting her in her position, because being the leader of a team can really be a burden... Having to take responsibility for mistakes other did and all...

Breaking them is a crime!

"EH?" Eri croaked in a high pitch. She sat up in attention. "Why-why is Takahashi-san saying sorry to me? You didn't do anything wrong to me . . . Instead. . . I felt that I should be the one saying sorry to you, Takahashi-san." Eri added on immediately as she held onto her own hands nervously.

"You don't have to be sorry, Kamei-san. . . this is what I should get . . ." Ai replied and paused for a long moment. She licked her dry lips nervously, contemplating whether should she continued what she had wanted to say initially. "I was sorry. . . because. . . she . . . she had caused the breakup between you and Gaki back then, wasn't that so?"

"Eh. . . " Eri sounded again, this time round in a softer tone. She turned slightly towards her right and glanced at the dividing door of the conference room, before turning back and look at Ai with a pair of teary eyes.

"I saw a photo of you and Gaki hidden in a drawer. . . I guessed that . . . If. . . I hadn't did the action . . . 7 years ago. . . you and Gaki . . . would be still . . . together . . . isn't that so?" Ai had lost her normal emotionless voice and begin to stutter her way through her words. The pair of eyes that were staring at her increased the guiltiness she felt at that point of time. "I'm sorry . . ."

"It's not your fault. . ." Eri whispered softly.

"I can see that . . . you still hold something for her. . . Now that . . . She's gone. . . I guessed . . . "

"It's impossible . . . Really, Takahashi-san . . . it's not your fault. Yes, it's true that Haru-chan may had indirectly caused out breakup, but between Gaki-san and I, I guessed separation was necessary. I had moved on . . . I know . .  ." Eri heaved deeply as she spoke up. She directed her glance back to the dividing door. "After the separation, I realised, we are better much off as friend as compared to lovers. Perhaps that's my life. . . " Eri continued as she smile bitterly.

Silence began to fill in the room, with the two women in the room, looking away awkwardly from each other as the second hand of the clock continues its job. "Let's move away from this topic, shall we?" Eri braced the courage she needed and voiced out, breaking the silence that was prevalent in the room.

Ai nodded her head quietly in agreement as she tapped her fingers nervously on her lap.

"About you, Takahashi-san . . . I - I wish to know more about you, Takahashi-san. . . "Eri continued in hesitation. "You know. . . about . . . you and Haru-chan . . . "

"You had heard about it, didn't you?" Ai asked unexpectedly without answering to Eri's request. "I'm sure that Gaki will tell you . . . "

"I didn't heard that from Gaki-san . . . it was from Sayu . . . apparently . . . that had been circulating down the building right after the court trial . . . " Eri answered timidly. She gulped a mouthful of saliva down her throat nervously. "If - if we had knew . . . about that, Takahashi-san, we wouldn't had filed the document. I'm . . . I'm really remorseful about that . .  I'm . . . I'm really - "

"You don’t have to. What was done is done. .  . And I don't blame anyone for that. I had said that right from the start, didn't I ? You don't have to apologise, Kamei-san." Ai interrupted Eri before Eri could pronounce the word 'sorry'. That had too, completely silenced Eri.

'How should I put it . . . ' Eri cracked in her mind as she continued to waver under the stare before. 'You have to do it, Eri. You got to get her to share the story. . . That's the only we can help her. . . You can do it. Eri.' Eri urged her mind . "Ano . . . If you don't mind . . . I . . . I would like to hear . . . hear about your story, Takahashi-san." Eri picked herself up and she felt the words running up her vocal cord and up through her lips, with her eyes staring earnestly at the pair of escaping eyes opposite her.

"I - I don't wish to talk about it." Ai replied coldly as she looked away Eri's questioning stare.

"But - but it's always good to share . . . even though I may not be able to do much. . . but at least. . . you can get it off your heart. . . I mean . . .  it's . . . it's good for your mental health as well . . . I know you are a nice person right on the first day we met, Takahashi-san. . . You . . . you don't deserve to be suffering from this.  . . Just not alone . . ." Eri added on immediately, afraid the direct rejection of Ai's would lead to her departure from the conversation that was running at that current moment.

Ai looked intensively at Eri, contemplating on her decision whether she had agreed with what the former had suggested. She blinked her eyes as tears began to fill up her eyes, blurring her vision when past memories came flashing back in her mind. Her body trembled gently at the nightmare, the nightmare that had haunted her for 8 long years. "That bastard . . . he . . . he was my batch mate in medical school."Ai whispered under her breath. Ai closed her eyes as she continued. "It was the annual summer party before the end of the summer vacation. Aya and I usually stick together during such party as both of us didn't really like alcohol and partying. He. . . he gave me a glass of orange juice when I was at the corner of the bar, waiting for Aya to arrive at the venue. I drank it without suspicion. Who had knew . . . he . . . he had drugged the juice. In the end, Aya was sick. She couldn't come . . . I wanted to leave the bar. He brought me out. I started to feel weak in my legs, and eventually I lost control of my muscles contraction. That bastard. . . he brought me to an abandoned apartment and . . . " Ai looked up onto the ceiling, hoping that it would stop the overflowing tears in her eye to form and slide off her face. She sniffled once and looked straight down to the meeting table, causing the tears to jerk out of her eyes and onto the table.

Eri scrambled off her chair and towards the other end of the room where the tissue box was placed. She returned back to the seat with the tissue box and slide it gently before Ai.

Ai took in a deep breath after she sniffled a couple of times. She reached her trembling hands for the tissue box, pulled a piece of tissue paper, and returned as she wiped away the pool of 'water' before her. "The bastard, he . . . he managed to get himself away from the crime. . . through his family connections and reputations." Ai continued bitterly. "After the summer vacation, back in the medical school. . . He went around . . . went around and told his friends about the night. . . I was fuming in fire, humiliation, hatred. . . I bashed him up. . . broke his nose and was expelled from Keio because of him. .  . " Ai bit her lips, so vigorously that she began to taste her own blood in her mouth.

Eri looked back at the dividing door once again. 'Did I did something wrong . . . by planning this plan . . . By doing this . . . Am I betraying the trust she had placed on me?'  Eri thought in her mind as direct her glance back to Ai before here, then onto the table top.

"I remembered seeing some brochures about forensic science in the United Kingdom. About how reliable forensic science was. With the reputation I had for my expel from Keio, it's impossible for me to get back into any local university. Forensic science. . . That was what I thought it could stop the corruption. The evidence don't lie. The dead don't lie. They are the best witness. That was what I thought. I applied for the course. I was accepted into it. I began to work part time, working 3 shifts every day, hoping that that would earn me enough money for the first payment of tuition fees and Visa application. And it did. Two nights before my flight to UK, I felt extraordinary pain in my abdomen." Ai's heart wavered when she reached the point. She tightened her bit on her both lips. "I never knew I was pregnant. I never knew I was. . . I " Ai brought her palm to her face as she leaned her forehead against her palm and ran her fingers in frustration through her hair. "She was borne that night. . . I - I didn't know what to do. . . I really don't know what to do. . . I -"

- knock knock-

Before Ai could finish what she had intended to, the gentle knocking on the door interrupted her. Soon after, Sayumi appeared behind the door. "Eririn, there's a case on sexual assault on the line. Chief is asking you to take the case. Yasuda-san is waiting for you at the car park at the moment. " Sayumi informed.

Before Eri could respond to Sayumi, the dividing door of the meeting slit open, revealing the figure who had been sitting in at the other room before the pair had came in.

"Gaki-san?" Sayumi called out questionably. Ai had her eyes wide opened and stared at the standing figure at the other side of the room. "Are you involved in this case as well, Gaki-san? If yes, Eririn can take your car, and Yasuda-san can proceed down to the hospital first." Sayumi asked in clueless.

"I'm currently off from new cases. All new cases will go to Mako-chan." Risa explained as she stared back at Ai.

"Give me 5 minutes, Sayu. I will be down by 5 minutes." Eri informed.

"Alright then." Sayumi responded and closed the door after her.

Ai directed her stare from Risa to Eri before standing up. "I'm leaving."

"Wait, Takahashi-san!" Eri stopped Ai immediately as she got up and over to Ai's side. "It's all my idea. I'm the one who had suggested to Gaki-san that this would make you speak up. We really want to help you, Takahashi-san."

Ai turned away from Eri's pleading stare.

Risa looked over to Eri. 'Was what she said true . . . about you . . . still holding . . . I always thought that you had moved on. . . I'm really selfish. I am really selfish. . . . and I can't even notice that. . . '

"Now that Gaki-san had knew more about the case, there is a chance that she may find new evidence against that guy. You still can have your justice, Takahashi-san." Eri added on.

"Say no more, Kamei-san. It's your first day as chief supervisor. You can do anything you like. But don't be late. Yasuda-san is waiting for you." Ai spoke her second sentence, causing Eri to back off slightly. The tone and calmness in her voice had changed in a 180 degree.

"I had understood." Eri whispered softly. "I will make my leave. . . " Eri trailed off as she walked slowly over to the door. She place her hand on the knob. Before she twisted the knob, she turned around and glanced at the two figures who were staring intensively at each other. 'I hope that all things will be well . . . and you, Gaki-san. . . that you would not take the conversation earlier on seriously. I had never wanted you to know what's inside of my heart now. . . I'm had not moved on. . . but I am trying my best to . . . don't feel guilty about it anymore. . . you are not the selfish one. . . our breakup, really, it was for the best. Seeing that you are striving up your ranks even just with a high school standards, I know . . .if we were still together, you wouldn't be. . . Haru-chan, was your motivation. She was your motivation . . . I am never . . . ' Eri blinked her eyes gently. Gripping onto the knob, she gave it a light twist and exited the room.

"Don't blame Kame. . . she didn't betray your trust. I am the one who had got her to do it." Risa cleared her throat and spoke for the first time after her presence was noticed.

Ai ignored Risa's advances. Instead, she picked up her box of belongings and tucked it into her embrace.

"Why are you leaving? Where are you going?" Risa blurted out suddenly as she grabbed onto Ai's forearm, stopping Ai from leaving the room. "I - I thought we could talk more . . . about the situation.

Ai flunked away Risa's hold. "I have nothing more to say. You got what you had wanted, didn't you? Aren't you satisfied with it?" Ai said curtly. She began to advance forward to the door and flunked it open. "Say nothing to Aya. I don't want her to know anything about this." Ai informed for the last time before she left the room.

"But - " Before Risa could finish what she wanted, Ai was already out of sight. "but . . . I had already . . . went to Matsuura-sensei about it. . . " Risa trailed off to the empty space. 'Had I messed up stuffs again?'

This chapter was pretty good to me. So don't say things don't fit. They do fabulously.

I kinda guessed someone was hiding behind the dividing door when Kame kept looking it's way. But I was still surpassed when you revealed who it was. Your writing is awesome like that. I might have gotten better grades if you were my English teacher xD

I'm surprised by the KameMame bit. 7 years is a long time =( Can't say I'm not happy with this development though as my inner turtle bean bag fan has been missing this pairing. But something tells me this is either gonna end with AiGaki or no one with anyone. Then again, you do have Miki, Sayumi and Aya in the story.

I just wish Ai wasn't so bloody stubborn. If only she didn't refuse the help that so many people were trying to give her. At least the people around her care enough to do so. Not everyone is so lucky.

I kinda wanna see Gaki take matters into her own hands and punish that bastard. But the chances of that happening doesn't seem high considering how straight laced she is. Unless something drastic occurs.

Oh man, my heart goes out to Ai and Eri at the moment. They deserve to be happy =(

I see someone mentioned she was contradicting. Well she's right about that =P

It certainly wasn't what I expected. XD Now that all is clear, maybe they can capture that bastard with evidence. Like setting a trap of some sort. Is Aya going to play a helping role since she's been told of Ai-chan's story? Just thought there were signs in the chapter.

I want some TakaGaki love! :inlove:

'What should I do now? And what can I do now?' Ai thought sadly in her mind as she stopped walking down the walkway and sighed deeply.  The familiar and comforting sound of the train ran past Ai, with a gush of wind running past her face. Ai closed her eyes. enjoying the soft touch of the wind to comfort her mind, just like how it did in the past. She made a pivot turn and headed towards the railing of the walkway, facing the late evening scenery of the Tokyo Bay. Ai rested her arm on the cool metal and had her eyes fixed on the sight before her. The sky was stained orange by the setting sun. The water glittered at the reflection of the setting sun. 'Eight years . . . Things had changed so much. . . the buildings are now climbing even higher than before. . .  The ones that were once there were no longer there.. . .Time . . . time that was lost . . . . '

Soft footsteps stopped beside the right side of Ai followed by a soft sigh. Ai glanced slightly to her right and say the face with the same features as her accompany nearly a decade ago.

"I was right that you will be here, Ai-chan." Aya spoke when Ai turned her glance away. "You had always loved to visit here when you are confused or stressed." Aya stretched her body lightly. "Ah~ It's so relaxing here, isn't that so?" Aya asked casually, hoping that that would get some response off Ai.

"Hmmm." Came the very soft reply from Ai.

A small smile crept onto Aya's face. 'At least she's responding to me. .  . ' Aya thought in her mind. Clearing her voice, Aya opened her mouth slightly. "How have you been for the past 8 years? I heard from Niigaki-san that you are now a forensic scientist." Aya asked with a smile.

"You had seen Gaki?" Ai questioned at the mention of Risa's name.

"Gaki?" Aya puzzled.

"Niigaki." Ai added on, explaining to Aya's puzzlement.

"Oh.  . ." Aya sounded in enlightenment. "Niigaki-san had came over to my office last night, saying that she had some questions for me. I never knew that Niigaki-san was a police. And never had I guessed that you are Niigaki-san colleague as a forensic science. I had always thought Ai-chan that would still continue with your medical study when you went missing  8 years ago."

"Jeez." Ai cursed under her breath. 'She had went to Aya already . . .which means that . . . high chances . . . Aya . . .  had knew about the incident, since Gaki had went over to Aya to question her about that night.' Ai analysed the situation in her mind.

"I had now understood . . . why you had refused to tell me anything, Ai-chan. Why are you so foolish? We are best friends, aren't we? We can share all the happiness, troubles and sadness. Why had you chose to embrace all these to yourself?" Aya asked softly as she scooted slightly closer to Ai, closing the gap between them.

"There wasn't a need to, Aya. It's better that only one of us suffer. It's not your fault that you had fell sick on that day. I don't want you to feel bad about it, Aya. " Ai whispered under her breath. Though soft, it did not remained unheard to Aya. Silence began to settle between the pair. It was not an awkward silence. It was a comfortable silence. The pair enjoyed the silence as the night falls in, where the bay they were facing at was illuminated by the bright lights of the street lamp and building neon lights. Ai closed her eyes, enjoying the soft breeze of wind that had just brushed past.

Aya took in a deep breath and broke the silence. "Are we still best friends?"

"What do you think?" Ai asked rhetorically, finding a hole to escape from Aya's question.

"I really thought I had lost a best friend. . . . " Aya trailed off as a cute and refreshing memory from their past days came flashing back into Aya's mind.

"Ai-chan! Save me!!" A panicked Aya shouted into the telephone.

"What happened??" Ai replied hastily as she turned her head from the left to the right, checking the traffic before crossing the congested street, towards the direction of Aya's apartment.

"Just come! I'm very scared!" Aya insisted panicky.

"I will right there at the moment!" Ai assured as she began to pick up her feet and sprinted forward. When she had finally reached Aya's apartment, she stopped before the door and panted heavily for extra oxygen to her brain and her aching muscles. "Aya, I'm here! Open the door!" Ai shouted over the door through her hoarse dry throat.

"The door is not locked!" Aya shouted from inside.

Ai opened the door cautiously and took protective steps as she advanced into the hallway. "Aya?" Ai called out softly, as she tried to check the location of her best friend.

"I'm here.  . ." Came a shaky voice that had echoed from the dining room.

Ai continued her baby steps to the dining room, only to find Aya , with her boots on, squatting on the dining table, with her hands over her ears. "What are you doing up there?" Ai asked curiously. "What had happened?"

"I was doing a final check on my coordinate when a cockroach flew suddenly on my full length mirror. . ." Aya explained, causing a exasperated expression to flaw over Ai's face. "It's - it's over there. . . Can you help me to . . ." Aya continued as she pointed her finger towards the corner beside the TV console.

"You called me over from our meeting place just to kill that stupid cockroach for you?" Ai asked in unbelievably, with her jaws dropped. "What am I to you?" Ai asked playfully as she took a rolled newspaper and headed towards the TV console.

" . . .  and a cockroach slayer when you went completely missing 8 years ago" Aya continued. It was the same answer that Aya had given to Ai back then.

"You are my personal cockroach slayer . . . . " Aya trailed off, causing Ai to turn back and stared viciously at Aya . Sensing the deadly stare from Ai, Aya scrambled and continued with her sentence. "And my irreplaceable best friend in my heart. . ." Aya finished with a cheeky smile.

Ai chuckled at Aya's reply, smiling honestly for the first time in the past few years. The very same memory had too, returned to her. "You still remember that?"

"Of course I do. . . " Aya replied as the same smile crept at the corner of her lips. "I wonder. . . had I lost that cockroach slayer forever?" Aya looked gently at Ai as she waited patiently for Ai's answer.

"If you don't mind . . . I guessed not . . . " Ai chuckled again as her next sentence rang in her mind. "But I'm not sure whether am I be able to respond to your SOS the next time you call."

It was Aya who had burst into fits of laughter this time round. "To be truthful to you, I'm not that afraid of cockroach now . . . I guess the age had caused that. . . ." Aya confessed as she pressed her lips together, with tears trailing at the corner of her eyes. "Welcome back, bestie." Aya continued. She pulled Ai closer to herself. Being the taller one between them, Aya pressed Ai's face gently on her shoulder. "You will never face this alone . . .. not anymore. . . for that there's many out there . . . who had cared strongly for you straight from the bottom of their heart, my dear. . . "

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Risa sad awkwardly at the waiting area of the private clinic, where she waited patiently for her turn to visit the doctor she had in her mind. 'I wonder what are the reasons for these people to visit this doctor. . . ' Risa thought curiously in her mind. She pulled apart her backpack, checking the documents she would need for one last time before zipping up the bag again. 'He's surely one popular doctor. . . and I wonder why. . . for that he had did such beastly action, I don't think he would be a good doctor in any way. . . ' Risa continued in her mind.

The longer she sat alone at the waiting area, the more and wilder her mind ran, with the memories last afternoon being fresh and clear in her mind.

"Say nothing to Aya. I don't want her to know anything about this."

'What should I do now. . . I had already told Matsuura-sensei about the general gist of the incident. Would she push me further away now? Now that she had knew about how Kame and I had planned . . . Will she become more wary about Kame, or will the hatred she for me grow deeper? Will it be more difficult for us to grab her truth, and help her for this time round . . . Why is that. . . she's filling up my mind?' Risa thought weirdly in her mind. 'Why am I taking so emotionally about this case? Was it because it involves Haru-chan? Was it because of her? Or was it because it involves the reputation of the MPD and the real definition of justice. . . '

"Because there's no reason to. . . After all these years. . . Justice still does not exist at all. . . Not at all . . ."

'She had really held her faith on justice. . . . Yet the system had failed her once and once again. . . . Had she gave up on seeking the truth and justice for herself?' Risa wondered in her mind. 'No! I can't let that to happen . . .I can't . . . to say about suffering.  . . I guessed she's the one who had suffered the most in all these years. . .  Haru-chan . . . she knew nothing of as such. . . she knew nothing of such sufferings. She had me .  . she had someone to rely on. . . .But it's different for her.  .. it . . '

"Niigaki-san!" Before Risa could further allow her mind to take in her conscious, a familiar high pitched voice broke her chains of thoughts.

Risa looked up from her fingers, only to catch Reina settling comfortably in beside her. "Tanaka-san?"

"What are you doing over here?" Reina asked curiously.

"What else can I be doing in a clinic, Tanaka-san? I'm visiting a doctor." Risa replied gracefully, knowing that Reina was the younger sister of the 'doctor' she had in her mind.

"Stressed about work?" Reina guessed. "That's the reason for majority of the people here to visit a physiatrist. The kind of competition and the workplace, for the economy, for the family, often drives people up the wall, isn't that so?" Reina reasoned.

"I guessed so." Risa replied shortly with a smile. She was unsure of what she should say or respond. That explained the short replies she had been giving Reina. "What is Tanaka-san visiting this clinic for as well? For the same reason?" Risa returned the question, hoping that that would reduce the limelight Reina had on her. She did not want to reveal her purpose of visit to the younger girl before her. Not after knowing the fact that she was the younger sister of Tanaka Juncho.

Reina shook her head gently at the question. "My elder brother is the owner of this clinic. I'm here for him to check on the stitches and healing of the wounds. Even though he's a physiatrist, he had finished the MD degree. So I guessed, he should be experienced enough to do the checking as well. It's quite a hassle for me to return to the hospital just to have the wound checked." Reina explained.

"Ah . . .so that's the case. . . "

"So, how's Haru-chan? Is she recovering well?"

Risa was caught off-guard. She had not expected Reina to ask this question. 'She had not heard about it?'

Reina had sensed the changes in Risa's reactions. "Did something went wrong?" Reina gulped in fear.

Risa felt something wet dripping down from her eyes till her chin and onto her clenched fist on her lap. Bitting on her lower lips, Risa forced a smile on her face. "Haru-chan had passed on from cardiac failure 48 hours after the transplantation. Her frail body could not withstand the pressure of having 3 major surgery in a week." Risa forced the news out of her throat painfully as tears continued to pour off her eyes. 'I thought. . . .I had accepted the fact that she's gone forever. . . . but why? Just at the slight mention of her by someone else . . . had pulled so painfully at my heart. . . I can't breath . . . '

"I'm . . . sorry . . . " Reina whimpered softly. "I'd never knew. . . "

"You don't have to be sorry, Tanaka-san. It's not your fault. . . "Risa chipped in immediately, stopping the self-blaming Reina was about to bring to herself. "All of us had knew that . .  .no matter how much the technology advances, risks are still existent. None of us wanted this to happened. . ." Risa sniffled deeply.

"But . . . I  had failed to help her. . . "

"But at least . . . you have gave her a chance. You had showed her a chance for life again. It's not your fault, Tanaka-san." Risa insisted as she forced a smile back onto her face, hoping that that would lessen up the sadness Reina was feeling.

"Tanaka-sama, it's your turn." A nurse came beside to Reina and helped her up from the chair. Reina took a step forward before turning back to face Risa again. "I'm sorry for your loss, Niigaki-san."

Risa remained seated at where she was for the next half an hour, until her name was finally called. 'Finally. . . the moment of confrontation is here. . . ' Risa knocked against the door as an action of courtesy before the entry into the consultation room.

"Good afternoon, Niigaki-san." Came the polite greeting. "Have a seat, Niigaki-san."

'He sounded polite. . . What a wolf in a sheep dressing. . . ' Risa insulted in her mind. Risa closed herself to the desk and sat on the patient chair.

"I see. . . What is your reason for consultation? Are you feeling a little be tight up in the mind? Or? The paper had stated no reason for your consultation, Niigaki-san." Juncho spoke up.

"I'm not here for consultation, Tanaka-san." Risa blurted out curtly. 'Woah . . . I never knew I could speak in the same attitude like her . . . '

"Not her for consultation?" Juncho repeated.

Risa reached into her blazer and fished out her identification pass. "I am FID senior police inspector, Niigaki Risa. There are some questions about a sexual assault case 8 years ago that I would like to hear from you, Tanaka-san." Risa introduced herself and continued.

"Ah . . .that case . . .Wasn't it already close as there were evidence to proof my innocence?" Juncho asked as he feigned innocently.

"Well. . . there are new improvements to the case. Therefore, we are revisiting all the past witness to retake their statements, Tanaka-san." Risa explained. "So, Tanaka-san, can you briefly explain the situation 8 years ago?"

"Like I had said, it was the annual summer party for Keio Medical School students. We were all gathered at the bar down that street. I was present in the bar right when the party start until it had ended as I was one of the organisers. But I had not seen Takahashi-san that night. She wasn't present at the party at all. She's a weird person. She doesn't like alcohol and rejected the idea about partying and stuffs. There's no reason for her to be. All of us knew about it. Even her best friend knew about that as well. There are a couple of my colleagues now can be my alibis that I was at the venue all the while. There's no way, like Takahashi-san had claimed, that I had sexually assaulted her."

"So . . . if I would like to take a sample of DNA from you to prove your innocence, would you agree to do it, Tanaka-san?" Risa continued asking.

"I don't see a need for that, Niigaki-san. I am definitely innocent. Do you have a warrant for it? If not, I won't agree to give a sample of DNA to the police. And as how I see this case is going, I don't think I can further answer anymore of your questions until I had got my lawyer, Niigaki-san. I'm busy at this moment. I have queues of patient waiting out for their consultation with me, Niigaki-san. Please exit right now."

"Sure, Tanaka-san. I'm sure we will meet some day again." Risa challenged as she stood up from the chair and exited the consultation room. When she did, she returned back to the same seat she had sat in the waiting and began to observe her surroundings. 'She looks familiar to me . . . ' Risa realised as a lady brushed past her. 'The rape victim from district 16! She visits here ? Could it be? ' Risa realised a possible connection between the number of rape cases that were transferred to the FID. 'There are similarities to the couple of cases. . . The victims had all lost their conscious . . . which is same as . . . her as well. . . if all the victims visit this same physiatrist over here. . . it could mean that . . . '  Risa shot up from the seat as she pulled out her mobile phone from her pants pocket. She ran her fingers through the buttons and dialled a familiar number.

As soon as the ringing tone ceased and was replaced by the owner of the phone call  on the other, Risa began to march towards the exit. "Mako-chan! I had discovered something about the links between the few sexually assault cases transferred from other districts!" Risa shouted into the receiver as she pulled the door of the clinic open and exited the clinic. She began to pace up and to her car which were parked by the roadside of the clinic. "Check the back ground of the victims! Check whether do they have any medical history . . ."

Before Risa could finish her sentence, a white cloth attached her from her back, covering her nose and mouth, stopping Risa from speaking. Risa dropped her phone, causing the disconnection of the phone call. She struggled with her attacker as she lowered her right hand with her car key to the side of the door and her left hand, grabbing tightly on her attackers arm. Though her effort, she had lost the struggle - to the larger physique of her attacker and the chemicals present on the white cloth. Within moments, Risa had lost her conscious. Totally.

I guessed that the doc Risa went to visit was the bastard since she wouldn't have any reason for dropping by at doctors with Haru gone =(

I enjoyed the cockroach bit though I detest those little things. Especially ones that fly. Aya is a genius for coming up with that plan to get through to Ai again.

Havent we watched enough shows to know that you shouldn't turn ya back to despicable men, Gaki? XD She ain't gonna go down without a fight is she? Maybe Mako will be able to track her down with some nifty gadget.

Can't wait for the next chappie. And what time did you post this up? It wasn't up yet when I checked last night. I presume you aren't in the dot anymore?
